Hi again Captain, and to your grandson too. My question is, what and/or how if you keep pouring in the breeders, cocoons, and bedding into the long bin, will you finally separate it all at the end of the 6 month time period? Also is your end game to have tons of castings, or worms, or both at the end of period, (which sounds like a silly question). Space wise that's really a lot of bedding each week, you may need another long bin to hold it all. I am also the old fart who made the comment awhile back correcting the square foot measurement as being 3 feet. Wasn't trying to be a know it all, but knew it would confuse some people as to how many breeders to optimally start a bin. You're a few years younger than me, but I sure admire your enthusiasm and ambition, and also rewatch many of your videos and shorts to get it right. God bless you and all your family. Starting the large nursery is a good time to do so now in the northern hemisphere as the cooler months begin approaching soon and the volume of the larger nursery keeps a much more temperature stable environment without the need for heating 👍
Hello captain Matt from over the pond in the UK I’ve been watching your videos for a couple of years now and just wanted to say thank you, you’ve really inspired me with getting into the worm farming business
I’m only 18 months in but I’m addicted and am dreaming of expanding over the next couple of years to a point where I could actually start selling my worm compost
If you have the time to look at my videos and could give me any advice it would be greatly appreciated
It is wonderful to truly understand the life cycle of worms and use that knowledge for the advantage of manipulating the population for production of more worms. There is more than one way to skin a cat! (do not skin cats)

I don't have enough worms yet to keep the adults with the caccoons, so I'm going to attempt to separate them from the 5 breeding trays thst I set up. I'm going to start building (I'm new to building and tools) a hatchery bin tomorrow.

Captain Matt, you've been an inspiration for my in-house worm bin. Since the time I brought my bin indoors for the winter, I've been seeing a lot more fruit flies inside. Do you have any recommendations for managing fruit flies that has worked for you?
At what temperature do you keep the smaller breeder bins in the racks? Do you use electric seeding mats in some way? Thank you.

How often do you feed them while they are breeding? Also, how composted do the wood chips have to be to use as bedding...are there alternatives for faster bedding material?

Thanks for another fantastic edition to your worm breeding series. You mentioned that you have both red wrigglers and European night crawlers in your bins (top and bottom feeders) do you seperate them when you begin your breeding process or do you put them together and let them co- mingle?

Hey Captain Matt, do you know if worms like pressure? Most of the worms in my garden are underneath the heavy plant pots. Maybe you can experiment with a rock or tile in the bin. Thank you for all the video's. See ya!
Hmmm… not sure - they like the darkness and moisture which tends to come with that territory. Would love to hear if you uncover any research or experiment.

That’s all ok for you, as you have more breeders but for those that don’t as most of us don’t, I know I don’t I will be picking my worms out into new bedding. As don’t have the space or the facilities you have.

You mentioned in another comment the breeding soil is too wet to sift. Does that mean you would have to pull your breeders out by hand?

I have 100 in each bin, as only a small job- got 6buckets now. So 600.
Just trying to bread them up for my own personal use and to use more kitchen waste from me and family.
That’s why atm I’m just trying to bread up my numbers. And I use the casting in the garden.
Here in the uk you can only by worms by the 100 that I’ve found and most of mine were breeders 6weeks ago so added them to what I had and good to go.

Is your big nursery something different to the big bins you have for making worm castings?
The nursery is more of a holding-bin (but still produces castings) … while the big bins are optimized for casting production.
At some point, do you just stop adding cocoons to the nursery and wait for the nursery worms to mature so you can transfer them elsewhere? Or what will be your next step after your have the “thousands upon thousands” of worms in the nursery bin?

What i don't understand if you are going to dump them all in the larger bin why not just start them in that one?

I have watched a few of these, but i still don't understand the advantage of rotating the bins. What is the benefit vs just picking out adults?
The worms will have processed most of the bedding into castings after a cycle.

Captain, when does the worm 💩 become castings? Is there a point when you stop having benefits from the worms and should use the 💩 and call it castings?😮
