Thank you so much! Interesting observation regarding the gender difference, I think some of the difference is also intrisic. Many women are suffering from our own inner critics, so we are less likely to post about controversial/silly/funny topics. In the end, the braver/louder person often get more attention and usually that is still favoring the men! I am still working on this imposter syndrome, and try to be braver :) I hope this channel informs you well before you consider a PhD, and certainly I think my content would come handy for master's thesis writing too!
As a Life scientist, Git is something I haven't used enought to talk about! I have learned about it in IT workshops, but I was a beginner back then. Douglas, looks like you are in engineering/computer science PhD, if I could guess :)
@@PhDCoffeeTime now on a second thought, git can be confusing… when other people around you use it, you have help to understand any issues that may arise, but if you’re alone as a git beginner, ooops. I dropped out from masters in Computer Science 10 years ago after a burn out. I was working at the same time, I had to drop one and I chose what brought me more money to pay rent. But I still miss the academic environment. Your channel would be great back then, both as an undergraduate and as a masters student.

Git saves your life in case of a mishap (I gave my laptop a margarita wash at 3am). At my uni, Git Kraken is the entry point, as it is quite simple to use. I later switched to Gitlab.

okay totally me. Just completed ME Geotechnical (non-thesis due to time constraints) but just looked at some files of mine from a not so distant geologic poster I created with help from my structure advisor and man o man like version 8 an on just for the abstract! Carried that same disorganization through grad school, 12 versions using MODFLOW to model a contamination site--never too late to learn different ways and self employ them in a fashion to better ones organization! thank ya! --only a third of the way through watching and already taking notes! Digging up old files from 2017 , pics, data, what a mess! I'll re-organize immediately!!
It's so great to hear that this sharing is helpful! Don't be too hard on yourself because file organization is never taught in class (at least on my end). Another tip would be to take notes about how you are reorganizing these folders, e.g. using OneNote. It's all a work in progress and it's okay to make tiny improvement. You will save a lot of time in the future, so be patient and take your time!

Love your story time scenes :D I have the following folders on the shares space of my uni: 1. doctoral schools (every course I study), 2. student guiding (for master student projects), 3. literature and writing (with separate folders for 'Paper 1 - xxxtitlexxx' and Review), 4. experiments, protocols, raw data, reports (where it divided per assay type, for example FACS), 5. Meetings, conferences, presentations (I structure within per meeting and year), 6. Planning, Inventory, Reagents, Materials (time schemes and templates to (re)order products), so you know when to order something and can immediately find the category number again. You really really really should get more viewers, Vera!
You're certainly a very organized person, I can tell from your last video. Even the bottle of whiskey was intentionally placed in that bookshelf for graduation, it shows how much thoughts you put into everything, that is wonderful. I have a little evil inside me to fight especially on the topic of organization, I have learned to block out time to organize. PhD audience is narrower than other topics, so don't get frustrated about small view count. In my head, I am performing like an Indie Band. I know only people with really good/really bad taste will like it :)

Great video! Video Idea! What about how you organize your ideas while researching? For example, researching 'Website Article 1" for 'Project XY' can create 10+ extra tabs of other articles that you want to read. Also! You don't want to forget the ideas you have while you are in 'the zone'. I think this is why some people ignore eating and bathroom breaks when they are in the zone of studying. Also, maybe these 10+ tabs of articles in your web browser are just for one of your studying tasks. It can be overwhelming. How to organizing/manage/label all of this data and remind your future self about what you were so focused on as to give yourself an "ah ha!" moment that can click yourself back 'into the zone' of where you were before?
Thanks for the video idea, sounds great. I personally have tried using "postit notes and white board method" (or Trello for digital version) to organize new idea. It's visually engaging to move paper aroud on the board (or just your home window!). While reading from many tabs, I would use "OneTab" chrome extension to bookmard the list (you can actually rename the group). As soon as I have more in depth notes, I use OneNote to write more elaborately.

Yes indeed! Now having lived in both US and Europe, I realize the clearer way of date format is DDMMMYYYY, i.e. 27NOV2021. Since Americans prefers MM/DD/YYYY (11/28/2021) and Europeans DD/MM/YYYY (28/11/2021), this comes handy when sharing documents!
I know you're going to say no. so I have nothing to lose by asking....Please consider doing a relaxing ASMR (your background knowledge would be amazing on the platform)..not to mention (please don't get weirded out, by my saying you love listening to you voice)......if you have no idea as to what to do...just make one of you reading a book into the microphone. Ok...I had my say. Glad you cant see me. I would feel so stupid, if I made myself come of as weird. ADHD always makes me search for relaxing alternatives. Thank you Dr....

Another useful skill: if you code on your PhD, it’s useful to have the code under a version control system such as Git.
