    This really worked , I went around 3 times with electric tape and put it back now it works. Thank you for uploading this video!

    The problem is not a Mechanical one-do not waste working pulleys by filing them down-the reason that the Turntable is running too fast, apart from a slightly slack Drive belt through age is that the Load resistor in the rectifier panel to the Motor unit is tired and has gone "high", therefore, when these age, they start to carbon- break due to long-term heating effect of current over years and they start to "push" towards going open-circuit, but on the way there,they become tired and so the Voltage across them rises and hence the motor is pushed harder and runs fast. You need to replace the load resistor on the output stage of the rectifier board with one of the same value-I do not own one of these turntables but that is what the cause will be-it ususally is. When you replace this resistor, you could wire in a variable and this will give you the variable pitch control that some turntables have if you do this, you will need to solder the third contact to the Zero-volts rail on the supply so as to be "In-circuit"-there may be a service Manual out there in Turntable Land that you can get the value of this Resistor from-or else you can get resistor codes off the net and /or a code card from Maplin Electronics., or you could go for another fixed value but I recommend that if you do, go for one of the SAME VALUE BUT HIGHER WATTAGE, say, (if it is a quarter watt, go for a one watt or Two watt) this will be more stable and last longer in the long term. Sad to see that you are using other PL41s for bits-try to get them all up and running and then you can have different cartridges on them, one for say 78rpm etc, Mono/stereo/moving coil/Moving magnet etc. Also try the old(Heavy) Decca SC4E Moving Iron Sum-and-Difference cartridges, that give the feel of a third channel and a more 3D audio experience. good on you for preserving this item, but get the others up and running-these are rare here in Great Britain and you could sell these to collectors. Happy Listening, Hifi is a Joy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Garron R. Martin, MAES

      +Garron Martin Not always! My resistor tests at 295.5 ohms..... well within tolerance of 300 ohms. Still plays fast.

      The PL41 has an AC Syncrhonous motor, there's no electronic speed control happening. It's not a voltage variance because a resistor is out of spec, although that could definitely happen on some tables, just not the PL41. It's just a matter of a belt that's a little too short or it's too thick, both of which will make the table run too fast. Get the right belt for this table and the speed is dead-on as it came from the factory.

    This was great, and you just helped me fix the exact same problem on the exact model turntable that I have. ..and it was great to see the cover of Ram there in the video. Great, great album.

    There's a guy who sells the correct belt for the PL-41 on eBay. I got one from him and now my PL's speed is spot-on. I had done the electrical tape trick, too. It isn't just the belt length that's important, if the new belt is too thick or too thin, the speed will be off.

      - I never considered the possibility of the thickness of the belt as a contributing factor - would you be as kind as to post a link to this seller or the item that you purchased?

    Do you have any suggestions on
    How to fix a broken rod on the dust cover it broke right at the screw in
    at spacer. Or parts thanks Randy

      Frankly my suggestion would be to hunt ebay for the replacement part and just replace it outright -

    Hey Richard.
    I’m searching for the 60hz capstan. It has a groove in the lower part. Do you have one

      Not a spare one but see them on eBay occaisionally.

    I tried the tape thing after getting good reading at capacitor. Fixed while I searched for an alternative which ended up simply being the correct belt. I ordered this one, took the tape off and bam...perfectionist!!! Table runs perfect now without tape and without replacing the capacitor... now granted, if you do have a leaky capacitor, this is not going to fix it. You will need a new cap. here is the belt: www.ebay.com/itm/111643636023?ul_noapp=true
    Yes it says PL-50.... dont worry it Works!

      I just received the belt from the above link. I have a pl-50. This belt WORKS! After 4 yrs of using the wrong belt, this one makes it perfect. I'll never know the physics of why, but thank you for the RIGHT BELT!

      @@kevinsenderhauf2490 Glad it worked! I find the same with tape decks as well. Belts realy do matter.

      @@absupplynet How did it do?

    • @absupplynet
      @absupplynet  3 роки тому

      @@PackardDog That method of correction of course was not very sophisticated but quite frankly worked just fine and I would estimate that its rotational speed is still a little fast by maybe a 30th of a revolution. As I said I estimated that I might more tape to go around one more time but after that it's thoroughly perfect well below my ability to detect that it's too fast - thanks for asking - are you having the same problem?

  • @leeshepherd6512
    @leeshepherd6512 9 років тому

    As mentioned in another comment the problem is not mechanical and a bodge like this is not the way to fix it. Get the load resistor changed!

      I think this solution is neither clumsy nor an inelegant way to solve this issue when faced with the difficulty of finding a repair outfit, the spare part and other difficulties faced to resurrect this item (short of having a time machine) to new like condition.

      The second capastan is for 50Hz operation.
