  • Many people have asked me how one gets into an SAP career. Much depends on what your background is, what career path you are interested in, and what SAP module you want to get into (if you want to go the consulting route).

    Best video of all the ones I have seen so far, hands down!! Beautifully explained and helped me know why besides having a Masters in Finance and a PMP I am still not where I wanna be. Thanks for sharing the video.

    Thanks for posting this video as it was very helpful! I have deep experience as an accountant, and I have also done a few years of big data analysis with SQL Server 2012. Is there a way that I could combine my accounting knowledge with SQL Server expertise to become a SAP consultant, specializing finance? Specifically, is there a training path or a certification exam I should take? I have only a few years of SAP software specific experience.

    You mentioned good points, but what lacks in my opinion in this video is mentioning how to get into SAP careeer when you have already graduated and some work experience in business? I have interdisciplanry knowledge and none SAP courses unfortunately during my master degree. Internship is not an option,because studies are over (at least in Germany is like that).
    However it is, your videos and channel are very helpful. Thank you once again.
    This is just a remark maybe to create a video for people at end of 20's, beginning of 30's who want to get into SAP carreer, but do not have an experience with the program, just interdisciplanary studies and expereince.

    Love this video. I was offered a position working with SAP for a major company, and another position with another major company working with VMWare. Any tips on things to look into for a career in SAP? Do you ever go into a datacenter? In your career placed your hands on hardware?
    To anyone watching, you can get a job in SAP! There was a point in time when I would watch a video like this and think it wouldn't happen, but yet now here it did, so go DO it. Take small steps.

      +Steve asdf S/4 HANA will be a big topic next year and likely the years to come. Getting familiar with S/4 HANA, HANA database, Fiori, and SAP Activate (the successor of ASAP) will be essential.
      I have not touched hardware the aspect yet.
      Thanks for your comment and questions. That makes all the difference!

    Hi, I worked on SAP in early 1990s as a shadowing Assistant Project Manager for the Company (I was shadowing the actual Project Management Consultant). It was a Sales focused company who were at the cutting edge of Data Warehousing at the time. Unfortunately, despite my warnings, they folded. I would like to get back into SAP as a consultant and want to know how is best. I have been an IT Software Trainer for some years and taught and used Database and Programming in Visual programming software. What is my best route within 12 months?

    • @IngosClassroom
      @IngosClassroom  7 років тому

      Janice Weir Hi Janice, not an easy question to answer. First, I would do some research and figure out what might be the best SAP niche for me. Looking at what you wrote it sounds like Business warehouse and everything related to reporting might be a good fit. But only you will know what's right for you. Second, once you know what you want, I suggest you go to SAP's career site and search for relevant postings. Third, I suggest that you simply apply. Hopefully, you will get an interview. Through the interviewing process you might be able to see what is possible with your current background and it will give you insights as to what you might need to learn in the next 12 months. Fourth, you might want to look at the broader SAP ecosystem. There are a lot of great partner companies.
      I hope this helps.

    Hi. First, thank you very much for this great explanation.
    I am from production & maintenance background and I have been given the opportunity ( internship) to participate in the implementation of SAP Plant Maintenance back in France. It was a one year term project. Now that I discovered SAP PM, I want to pursue a career in this filed to become a consultant. But the problem is that employers often require candidates to have several years of work experience and the knowledge of multiple SAP Modules for example : PM/PP/MM.
    Could you please give me some advice on how to get my feet in the door as a consultant here in the US?
    Thank you.

      +Pedro Alfonso if I were you I would apply to jobs even if they require several years of experience. It's worth a shot. On indeed.com, I searched for "SAP pm consultant" and filtered by full-time and entry-level. I got 65 hits. The fact that even "principal consultant" jobs show up tells me that you might have a chance. Good luck!

The most difficult part is created AS IS and To be system. Work with people meeting and help them to proceed the application most more difficult than configuration or UAT.

    Hello, I am in the Insurance Industry and coming from a Sales background, what would be a recommended module(s) to learn?

    • @IngosClassroom
      @IngosClassroom  3 роки тому

      Check out this page: www.sap.com/industries/insurance.html . In terms of function, you could consider going into a Sales role serving Insurance clients. As a Sales rep you need to know the value proposition of the software and what it does on a high level. If you join SAP or one the partners, you will likely receive training tailored to Sales reps.. I think it is worth trying to apply for a Sales role even without having learned SAP modules. Having industry experience is extremely valuable in a Sales role. It adds to your credibility and navigating customer conversations. Hope this helps.

    • @IngosClassroom
      @IngosClassroom  7 років тому +1

      This is my own view: I expect the migration from ERP to S/4 HANA to be a big focus area. IoT, machine learning, and big data are more and more emerging. Functionally, everything in finance, SRM, and asset management are always in demand. And everything in cloud (Ariba, Hybris, SuccessFactors). Again, this is my own view. Others may see this differently. I hope this helps.

      I think it will. It's worth a try applying either directly with SAP or one of its partners. You might be a good fit for a Client Partner role in which you'd focus on Services Sales, i.e. selling projects / consulting services.
