I love this song by the late Kayla Parker who sadly succumbed to cancer. It is a real "smoker"! This soloist, Jamika, did a fantastic job singing it. She's adopted some First-Lady Karen Clark-Sheard moves. However, the correct lyrics on the verse are "right now, right now, I am a son" - not "the son" which she kept incorrectly singing. Only Jesus Christ is THE Son never any of us. The article "a" instead of "the" is doctrinally critical. If she sang other words incorrectly, it would not have made much difference in the message. Also, I was waiting for the other jamming choral interlude where the choir sings a bunch of Oh's in crazy polyphenol florid phrases. Does anybody else remember that part? That part is the SUPREME jam of this song, but a bit difficult. This choir omitted it. At any rate, the choir was good, and the band was TIGHT!! One final thing, when I see a choir, I want to hear a choir - not just the first row with individual mics. Gospel have been using this choral set up for a while. I hate it. Why? Because it's deceptive. You never hear the second to last rows of the choir. All you hear is the "Praise Team" voices. Jimmy Swaggart started this. He had a whole choir in the loft with nice robes, but never heard. All you heard was his family and/or the Praise Team members in front of the choir all with individual mics. To me the choir was just up there for decoration. In my experience as a church musician, this can breed a prideful spirit in the Praise Team Members thinking they are "best" voices. They may be the best voices, but a REAL choir director at first has auditions to get ALL good voices and trains ALL voices. Otherwise, to me, any choir director that can't train all auditioned voices to be their best and place them properly into sections for a balanced, well-rounded sound with good diction and phrasing, is not worth being the choir director. My choirs never used this lazy technique and never will. If I want a Praise Team sound, I use the Praise Team with separate mics. Praise Teams have their place in the service. However, if I want a choir, I want to hear a full choir sound. A church is a place where everybody is supposed to grow for the Lord strong and weaker voices alike. If you only use your "best singers", you neglect the rest of your members ever being heard. You just have a thin sound like you have with this choir. That is having respect of persons which God does not do. The original recording of this song is Marvin Winans Perfected Praise Church choir with Kayla Parker leading. She was exceptionally talented and anointed and is missed. RIP Kayla!

Not being rude, but you are literally demanding perfection. This is a church service, not an album recording. To overly pick apart a Sunday morning service is a bit much. We definitely want the right lyrics and I see where you complimented them, but to completely disregard this moment with everything you thought they did wrong is unfair. Sometimes we should just let a moment be a moment and let others enjoy it. This was a great moment in service, the music was heartfelt and that's where we should leave it. If it was an album recording then maybe the critique would be more understood. The only reason people are discussing this song right now is because GEICOGIC chose to bring a great song back to the forefront and I applaud them for it. I mean no disrepect, blessings.

@@imjustlooking888 First off I knew you had to have a level of understanding to even mention the things you did and I love that you have a degree in music. Thanks for understanding I wasn't attacking you at all. I absolutely agree that we should do all things with a spirit of excellence and there is always room for improvement. I have also been a musician for multiple churches and after being either hurt or disappointed by the things I saw or experienced, and then having to heal after all of it, I can say that I have come to a better perspective of people and how I should handle those situations which somewhat prompted me to respond to you. We always want to lead with love, and part of that is being able to assess what's necessary and not necessary depending on the nature of the situation. Now, I absolutely believe that there should always be a rule in play for any church that if you sing on the praise team, you should be able to sing with the choir without a microphone and help train others to be as great, if not greater than yourself so any praise team member that thinks that they can't sing with the choir should be sat down and learn how to serve God's house again without the microphone. As you continue to serve God I pray you are totally healed from any hurt and trauma you've experienced. You sound like you believe in always giving God your best and that's the absolute right mindset. You are important to God and the body of Christ and your expertise is needed. God will show you when to use it, and I pray that God will send you and use you to serve only in places that honor him and where you will be well received.

@@Revolo17 Thanks for your kind and understanding words. I was hurt by a praise team member who laid me out when confronted the person about not obeying what the Pastor required. The person tried to make me feel that it was my fault. I didn't respond back. I just took it as a fellowship on Jesus' sufferings and kept on serving God as one of His minstrels. For other reasons. I've long left that church. However, I know here on earth there are no perfect churches. Why, because imperfect me join them. LOL!

Thank you. You are not being rude at all. I understand. I went a bit overboard. My music degree came out too much. It is a worship experience. However, in anything we do for the Lord we should strive to do our best, but not to stress out on small mistakes thus quenching the Spirit. I went into venting some things that I have been frustrated about for a few years. I played for a praise team for church. The bishop of the church repeatedly asked the praise team members to sing with choir. If, he made it a rule. They more than once would not do it. This was disobedient. One member actually told me that they could not sing with the choir because they "were worshippers". Can you imagine that? I held my peace, but I thought "so when the choir sings, they are worshipping too? Like wow!" That was disrespectful. However, I do understand that all praise teams don't have that carnal attitude. There are some very anointed praise teams that i enjoy. Please pray for me that I won't have my persnickety flesh hinder my worship. Again, thanks for your nice rebuke.
