7:26 Season of Loss helps to flip a losing position especially when you going second, and there are very few cards like these in the set, and many snowballing creature-based decks around.
I'm getting back into magic for the first time in over a decade. I use to play competitively. I'm flabbergasted by the power level of these cards. a 3 Mana 2/2 flyer was a pretty good limited pick back in the day...
So, I will say that the one way I've found blue/red works is as a pure control deck. If you open a pack 1 bomb or value engine card in that pair, I don't think it's a bad direction to go but you have to build it knowing you aren't going to be fast. There's solid removal in red and blue and plenty of ways to draw cards, so you just grab as much efficient removal as you can and efficient defensive creatures or good value engine creatures and play the grind game. If you go into those colors, nobody really challenges it either, so it's not hard to get cards you want for it.
I think season of loss is so powerful since it works well being drawn twice - first cast can be destroy a bunch of creatures and second cast can be each opponent loses X life
I think blue red's biggest problem is that it has so many great spell payoffs and very few spells to trigger them. Like there just aren't enough 1-2 mana spells that do something
Nizzahon is the only channel's Limited content I listen to, even though I don't play limited really. His coverage and showcase of cards is really helpful for keeping track for my commander decks and possible adds.
Same, I’ve never drafted before (have done a sealed prerelease, but not the same) but if I did, I’d just search up his videos and I’d be set. Great stuff.
Out of curiosity, is there a good spot for constructed? I like building balanced decks out of cards from the same set but I almost always just use draft archetype guides to help me along.
I had a draft where I got 2 Ral, Crackling Wit, and a Storm Chaser’s Talent. It was a strong deck, and I still got 4 wins. But I feel like I’d have done better in B/G. I did get a Ygra, and B/G seemed somewhat open, but I really think it says something when you get two of the best bomb in a colour pair with even more support and it still might’ve not been the best lane.
"If you get some red and blue bombs then you can play it" That is exactly what happened in my first 7 win run. I just kept getting passed red rares and uncommons that I HAD to run a red blue spells deck. Kindlespark duos, valley flamecaller, sunspire lynx, and daring waveriders were all MVPs!
I've been super impressed with builder's talent! Particularly pleased with how it combos with the cook pot artifact. It costs 2, which means you can level up the talent and play it turn 3, it gives you 2 +1 counters, which at worst you place on the wall. Then when you destroy a creature for 5 with the artifact, it's a great target for the level 3, since it gives you 2 more counters, and blows up something else! Its gross if you get the uncommon white 1 drop that gets +2/+0 when you have a token, then turn 2 builder talent, then turn three pot: swing for 5 on turn 3.
i remember thinking when you said finch formation was one of blue's best commons, i thought... "is this not blue's worst common? i can't think of anything i think is worse?" i think my assessment was pretty close at the time. lol.
Finch Formation in a set with so many reach creatures that completely stonewall it (and the creature it lifts) kindof affirms to me that there's clearly an A-team and a B-team with limited sets. It's just a card design that was clearly supposed to do something, and in practice it does nothing.
@@abyssalAnalyst it is fsvorful with the concept! And it's synergic with the deck archetype :the permanents this "builder's talent" want are the artifacs & enchantments this deck loves to dig !
I had a sealed pool with 2 Alanias, a season of the bold and some other decent otters. My concern for playing the deck was that I'd never get to the late game. On game 1 I did all the things. Doubled Season of the bold using Alania, and I lost. That convinced me that even if I did get to the late game and everything went according to plan the deck was still bad. I remade my deck as red/white mice and actually won a few games.
I have similar opinions on Wax-wane witness, with the caveat that it gets much much better if you can reliably gain life every turn. Its not the greatest boardstate for sure, but I've had the 4 mana artifact that drains on combat each turn, the white black hybrid uncommon that gains life on attack, and a wax-wane do some serious work for me. So its definitely a build around for me
Season of loss is a powerhouse a top 10 card when in opening hand and when drawn later probably the best late game. Valley rabbit and frog the best two opening hand win rate cards in the set and they have paid off.
I think it’s interesting how red performs really bad in this format, but it’s S tier if not the best color in standard😂 Cool to see how different all the colors perform depending on the format.
Cube draft is considered limited. Limited are all ways of playing where you don't begin with an already built deck. This video deals primarily with set draft, where each player gets 3 boosters from the same standard set.
One thing the stats do not show, I think, is the differnece between bad cards and cards played too many copies of. I think may be the case with recycling/cache grab. while you want multiple copies of grab in according deck, recycling will drop in stats if drawn too many times early game because users play too many copies of
Carrot cake is effectively 2 1/1 rabbits, 2 scry 1s, and 3 life once done. For 2 mana cast and a 2 mana sac. The instant speed 1/1 scry 1 and 3 life is what makes it solid. Good value, good early, not great but definitely not terrible top deck or late game draw.....medicore when behind top deck
@@NizzahonMagic yeah, I know. I just thought it was pretty ironically funny. It's caller BUILDER'S talent, afterall. Love the videos man, best limited content on UA-cam.
Pro Tip for this format. Banishing light is the pick every time you see it. If you are not in white, pick it anyway and play white. If you get two banishing lights in your draft you are halfway to a winning deck. I remember the pro tour where Kibler first picked an O-ring and 15 years later it is still the play
Banishing Light is very mid in this format. It's a nice card, but very, very far from the pick every time we see it. It has the 4th highest win rate among White commons.
@@beelor5777 well this certainly contradicts my experience, I crushed about every aggro deck I saw in the field, even finished 6-3 with a Dimir-based Ultimatum deck.
I don't know where you are getting red being weak from. The two mana dork that taps to give a dude haste has been tremendous for me. Don't estimate how powerful free haste is. Also the mythic uncommon 5/5 hasty boi does work. Every time I go boros I win enough games to draft again.
We have data from hundreds of thousands of drafts on 17lands telling us Red and Blue are significantly weaker than the other 3 colors. It doesn't mean you can never win with Red, but it does mean that you lose more with it than other colors. I agree the 5/5 hast Boi is nice, but the Red commons are rough. Raccoon Rallier is pretty bad on average, as it has the 10th highest win rate among all Red commons, which themselves are an underwhelming group!
That would be cool, but this Set is Standard, wouldn't be able to if it was Universes Beyond, and also, all the MTG Veterans wouldn't like the set as much as they claim
@TheSpiritombsableye Redwall is a kids book series by Brian Jacques about talking animals that live at an abbey called Redwall Abbey. The books don't shy away from death or the gruesome details. Might be my fav format you do, digestible and informative. I suck at limited still but you give a noob hope. Much love!!!!
I’ve been playing limited off and ON for a decade and I still feel like a noob with some of the piles I draft and some of my outcomes ..
Carrot Cake is also good simply bc of TIMING. You can use the second part at instant speed and that little bit of timing goes a long way.
7:26 Season of Loss helps to flip a losing position especially when you going second, and there are very few cards like these in the set, and many snowballing creature-based decks around.
14:00 another cool thing about builder's talent is that it makes your opponent's food gifts much better for you
Everything about Season of Loss is a paws-itive
I had carrot cake in my black/white deck at prerelease. It put in so much work with Zoraline. Being able to recur it for another 2 triggers is so good
I wish other creators would reflect on their predictions like you. Cool video idea!

Wind Drake Boomers rise up, I always fall for those, too. The ones that actually make a useful token seem to work.
yeah, waterwind scout and preening champion were crazy good. I wonder why finch formation’s offspring cost is so high
Time and again, that's why Nizzahon is the best Limited content on UA-cam. Even when he misses, he doesn't by the time Quick Draft is up 🤟
I think blue red's biggest problem is that it has so many great spell payoffs and very few spells to trigger them. Like there just aren't enough 1-2 mana spells that do something

Finch formation is okay in frogs but bad in all the other blue decks, including the one it's supposedly part of.
I feel like that's also partly because frogs are way better than the other three blue decks
i remember thinking when you said finch formation was one of blue's best commons, i thought... "is this not blue's worst common? i can't think of anything i think is worse?"

Always a video I look out for when a new limited season comes around
Cache grab fueled my keen eyed curators in my raccoon deck. One of those unexpected synergies.

To be entirely fair, if flying is going to be everywhere, so to should it's antithesis so players can actually contest it.
