This is one of those defining performances by a band caught on film. From the eerie amp feedback at the beginning, to the end (which feels like a tornado has just ripped through the stage), it's better than the album version. In fact, the end of the song isn't just an ending. It's an aftermath. I still keep coming back to this.
this is such an incredible live performance. i wish i could go back in time to witness it in person. this is the moment where godflesh "clicked" in my brain. i tried for a long time to get into them, but this single performance did it. everything about this is perfect.
this video was filmed in Philadelphia,pa at the Trocadero. chances are it originated from me. it's great to see it up on here. one of the most influential bands for me on the music i did over the years.
Godflesh is amazing live. It's amazing how just two guys can put on one hell of a show that tears the stage up. I hope I get to see them live some day.
Damn! You know I almost can't imagine my world a couple of years back before I'd heard Swans, I'm thinking I might soon be thinking the same about Godflesh, this is fantastic!
Your blood on my hands, Your blood on my hands Grey machines, Dying ocean Slateman With your hand on my heart, I need air With your hand on my heart, I'll still survive Slateman
this band was unique, simplsiets riffs in 90 s metal, but very emotional, ransports you to other dimensions..in this times of totally fashion rock bands im very happy to see this
As a young lad I got a metal mag with an Earache sampler with Morbid Angel Napalm Death ext. This was by far the heaviest thing on it n I’ve been a fan since that day!
One of my favourite Godflesh songs. So energetic. Very cool video, by the way, should anyone ever find a video of "Frail" being played live, please put it on youtube, I love that song.
Yeah it's one of my favourite songs too. this video makes me wish I would have had the chance to see Godflesh live. Oh well at least I got the chance to see Jesu live a couple of months ago, and they're just as good, if not better. Justin Broadrick is without a doubt one of my favourite contemporary musicians.
All labels aside such as "metal" and "industrial," Godflesh is a unique and truly "heavy" band whose essence is exquisite dissonance paired with intricate harmonics, a bleak yet pure aural landscape of mind crushing awe. And yes, I agree that, technically, the pioneers of industrial are: Throbbing Gristle, who actually invented the term "industrial music for industrial people," Einsturzende Neubauten, Boyd Rice and other.
@F3rgul cheers, glad you came across Gflesh... to this day no *heavy* band moves me as much as gflesh. I hope you check out all their albums as they had a pretty diverse output.
@bogeaqYT yes, for all (as far as i know) he used a custom strat, downtuned to a C (correct me if am wrong) used a metal pick, Boss Metal Zone and Digital Delay pedals and a marshal stack as his main rig. this is info from a couple of interviews in the 90's
This is brutal. Hard and jagged as rusty nails. Strange,it isn't ugly though. GODFLESH is lush and organic and somehow almost sensuous. This is NOT shopping mall music like Metallica.
@Fraeg Boss PS-2 pitch shifter delay used in the delay mode, and a boss heavy metal with the treble at 11 oclock and the bass at 1 oclock. gain at full.
@fiveways cheers, did more research and while I think my guitar info is right my pedal info is off. picked up a 1986 japan made HM-2 and have been experimenting... haven't found that golden tone just yet. cheers.
No bullshit, no gimmicks, no posing, just pure raw awesomeness. This blew me away, I'm so glad I found out about them last year.

I still keep coming back to this.

The world can no longer stand so much power.
I saw them open for Skinny Puppy in 1992 on SP's Last Rights tour in Portland, Or. Absolutely crushing. And humble.

As a young lad I got a metal mag with an Earache sampler with Morbid Angel Napalm Death ext. This was by far the heaviest thing on it n I’ve been a fan since that day!
I love the way way it looks like stop motion animation....Justin wields his axe like a sonic death ray!

Strange,it isn't ugly though.
GODFLESH is lush and organic and somehow almost sensuous.
This is NOT shopping mall music like Metallica.
Amazing version of the track - though i have to say i prefer the sudio version where he sings cleanly - its a bit spooky.
Eaaarrrrgaaaasssmmmm!!
the song they played on Hideaway is called Nihil, off the cold world/slateman album
not slateman tho
it is on the Slavestate EP
@Fraeg
Boss PS-2 pitch shifter delay used in the delay mode, and a boss heavy metal with the treble at 11 oclock and the bass at 1 oclock. gain at full.
Fucking oath. Godflesh are awesome.
end of the world
@fiveways cheers, did more research and while I think my guitar info is right my pedal info is off. picked up a 1986 japan made HM-2 and have been experimenting... haven't found that golden tone just yet. cheers.

Powerful shit
Just wanted to say: this is NOT my kind of music at ALL, but I think this song is really really fucking sick. I might wanna cover this with my band.

@Druffmaul True, though he started using Schecter since Jesu era.
Please never unlink that´s video´s - so fucking good!
Valeu,
Julio - brazil.
thats from the movie "The Hideaway" with Jeff Goldblum haha
if only I could figure out how to play this...
the song Cold World is a bit more "epic" in feel, but yeah this is one of GF's top 5 songs easy
metal when they recreated metal
I have never seen Justin wear shorts in all my life
yeah this is off the slavestate ep
Is he using a strat?
@gguolo not to nit pick, but his name is Justin
@bogeaqYT Not just a strat... but a cheap Japanese Squire strat. =D
No thats actually a Japanese Fender. Even had the S1 bridge on it. There was nothing cheap about those.
nice video. justin c o m e to croatia!
uhmm no but godflesh is great. well before godflesh you have things like Throbbing Gristle, caberait v. etc
Justin has issues.
It's cos Birmingham IS a barren wasteland.
