    I remember when AntsCanada fed his naturally deceased tarantula to one of his ant colonies. The ants that avoided the hairs were fine, those that got caught in them were either repelled, or got stuck and died. I'd wager that effect is why she lay down hairs first, to make it harder for them and other small critters to reach her while her new body is soft.

  • @TYdehigh
    @TYdehigh Рік тому +160

    I love how you can see her intentionally kicking them down before she delicately lays a web over them. I'm assuming to both secure som hairs there as well qs to make a warning /trap line to alert her of enemies and predators that get in her proximity .
    So amazing to see how smart they are, and how they use what they were given to accomplish so much.

    Omg so beautiful. I absolutely LOVE spiders, I matter of fact had a golden weaver, in a rather unorthodox manner (she literally appeared one day in my garden, made her web and all of us just let her be, even the dogs didn't disturb her web) and more often than not i got her some insects for her to feed and all that good stuff. One day we found her web destroyed, and some stones on the garden. No trace of Mya (how I called her, without knowing if it was actually a "she") though. Hope she escaped and had a venturous life afterwards.

    I believe she is surrounding the air and ground with hairs to help keep potential predators away during her molt. The hairs are of no use to her on that old exoskeleton after her molt, so it only makes sense to use every single one she can as protection in the air and ground to add a layer of protection while she is vulnerable. How exciting to catch her in the pre-molt countdown. 👍🕷👏🕸🤙

    I had a Honduran curly hair that did this. Not necessarily before a most either, but just for shits and giggles he’d web and kick hairs. I thought it was so weird, but after reading through the comments he was likely putting down hairs around his burrow (since he dug into the ground and would do this web hair thing around the top layers of dirt above the hole,) as a defense mechanism against predators. Interesting creatures tarantulas. You learn something new every day.
