Grew up in the 70's on Hungry Man and Banquet. The taste was better back then.

Then companies started cutting corners and making the dinners cheaply made processed shit instead of a simply frozen TV dinner like the more expensive brands now
That's my theory since I didn't grow up in those times or era
I like the thought of Larry's hands duct taped to the chair or something while Mrs. Wolfe-Pit prepares the food because we only see her hands. 😂😂
I was born in 1948 and it was an exciting time when TV dinners in those aluminum trays mom washed and kept after the meal. Those who say that the dinners are not as good as they used to be speak truth. Hungry Man used to be good, but now, I avoid them. The beef often tastes like sawdust was used as a filler. Based on your review, I think that I will spend my money on something ele.
I grew up in the 80’s and the TV dinners were in plastic trays and my mom would reuse them for us so often.

Larry, before I even watched the entire video the 21g of protein on the box caught my eye. I am sick and tired of Manufacturers touting grams of protein when a good deal of that is negated by fat and sugar. I can't have any sugar so I can't eat most everything you review. I just like your videos. In the ingredients list (which is as far as I got so far) the protein is listed as 24g. And there's margarine in the ingredients.
I remember about a decade ago, there was a Hungry Man dinner that was deemed so unhealthy it was pulled from the market. I think it was chicken tenders, cheesy potato wedges, a brownie and another side.
It was one of my favorites and I still miss it.

I had always through Hungry Man = a big salt lick. Filling and calories, but salty and dubious quality. For the price it's tough to expect more. Really good review!
Did you notice the shrinkage? They used to promote their Hungry-Man dinner as a "a whole pound of food".

They all do the shrinkflation thing now. My biggest beef is that the price is still going up.
@@kenhill3230 I first noticed shrinkflation decades ago with coffee. The smallest package of ground coffee was a full pound for years. Then it was 15 oz. Then 14 oz. Then 12 oz. and so it goes.

I also hate those reviews where the criticism isn't even the fault of the provider. The one that always annoys me is when ppl complain that the hotel THEY chose to stay in is too far from the train station, centre of town etc........

Dude I guess I'm crazy and have low expectations for food. I generally don't mind any of these frozen meals. I've had a few that were just never again type but most of them I have tried are....ok. Like 4/10. But I know what I'm getting so I know disappointment is just part of the meal. Nevertheless, I really appreciate what you the Larry do for us the people so we don't have too... And I usually try them anyway!! Keep it going friend!😅😅
Larry, though you normally review frozen dinners and cheap dollar tree meals it would be cool to see a review of a HelloFresh, Factor, Blue Apron etc. just a thought!

At least fat grams plus protein grams add up to somewhat more than carbohydrate grams. Much of the fat and protein are from soybeans, mind you. Really serious processed food.
Lets talk about those banquet "ribs" though..used to he a guilty pleasure of mines..its like that cafeteria food you ate growing up that you knewww wasnt too good but the taste just hit😅😅

I'd buy on sale, heat at gas station and use the condiment packets lol. Never had in oven, don't think will ever buy frozen meals ever, been many years since I have. Growing up in the 60's with a houseful of kids, TV dinners were a rare thing. But when they went on sale at the local A&P turkey dinners sometimes showed up. Then frozen Chinese dinners came out. Chinese food was a novelty, but we loved them. I miss those Chinese dinners.

I really enjoy it when Larry points out the discrepancies in nutritional content on the front of the box vs the back. 🙂Seems like the manufacturers could do a little better. If someone is going to lie to me I'd appreciate it if they put a little effort into it. At the least pay for a proof-reader.

I have no clue if you can find them in your area, but you should try the night hawk tv dinners. They used to be a steakhouse in Texas that closed a while back and now they have chopped steak tv dinners. They’re straight up beef no TVP and actually pretty solid. Some of the meals come with butter on the chopped steak and some come with a pretty nice “steak sauce” gravy. The one with loaded mashed potatoes and the au gratin one is solid.
This video, reminds me of your delicious homemade beef patties with onion gravy, I made that several times.
You can't go wrong with this! I had one of these yesterday with a little ketchup and mustard on the patties!
We have a slightly different version in Canada, called Grilled Beef Steakettes, with no mention of beer but the gravy is pretty good. The veg is also less corn but more carrots and beans. Overrall, pretty good. One thing I'll say about Hungry Man mashed potatoes is that you need to cook it long enough or it ends up gritty, which may not coincide with the amount of time it takes to properly heat the rest of it. Based upon the look of the mashed potatoes only, I would have heated for longer but it's still Hungry Man mash and don't expect miracles even when it's done properly.
Let's just be honest here, whether you're from the US or Canada or the UK or Australia, our frozen meals aren't top quality. It's just a good backup LOL they could all be better honestly.

If you look at the chemical breakdown of an organic strawberry, the list is going to look about the same as this meal. Don't fall for the misinformation. Most of it comes from companies and influencers trying to sell snake oil supplements

I'm sorry but the potatoes taste like baby cereal. That's the only thing I can think of to compare lol. Still like you say butter and pepper helps it out. "Grilled" meat patty. More like "Stamped 4 meat slurry concoction with painted grill marks", but I guess that doesnt roll off the tongue very easily and it certainly wouldnt fit on the box.
But for real, when ever ive eaten frozen TV dinners like that, I take the patties, cover em in gravy. plop the potatoes on top, plop the rest of the gravy on top of that and just eat them that way lol. Ofc, thats how I eat most of my meat dinners, I use mashed potatoes like a dipping sauce.

It drives me crazy when I look through reviews on Walmart's site to see if something is good, and 98% are people complaining about getting a dented can of something unrelated in their delivery or curbside pickup order. The review needs to be about the quality of the particular product. I would try this and I always add butter or gravy to these frozen mashed potatoes Conagra puts out. They just are not very good in their Banquet and Hungry Man dinners.
Note that the list of ingredients says the potatoes are reconstituted from dry. Instant trip to lower quality.

The other 3 grams of protein apparently disappeared with the rest of the dinner - Hungry Man dinners are supposed to be 16 oz, and apparently Pinnacle Foods is crooked in that you paid for the whole pound and got shorted 1/16 of it. Not surprised when all of business is crooked.

Careful on the quality comment, they might listen! The main appeal of Hungry Man meals is the price. Just a few years ago they were $2.50 where I am, and now they're pushing $5 depending where you go. I also noticed the calories have gone down for the same meals. Not sure what they did there. I used to buy em all the time, but haven't bought one in forever.

I tried this Hungry Man meal cooked in a microwave many years ago. Yea the mashed potato was too watery. Probably thicken up if microwave it longer. The meat was pretty good and for that price for a meal that wasn't bad.

Beef patties are just a hamburger. Salisbury steak is basically a meatloaf shaped into a patty.

Nice vid. The way to enjoy this salt lick salisbury dinner is to cut the patties into small pieces and mix it with the mashed potatoes and vegetables. It will be similar to a cottage pie!

TBH 'home style ' depends on your home, take my moms mashed 'taters, she used everything everybody else used except instead of a masher she broke out the mixer and mixed and mixed and ...mixed, in the end they looked fake like a plastic reproduction and had a weird mouth feel.
The meatloaf dinner is very good too.

@@kwood55981 It's good if you're drunk LOL that's about it. I'd rather go for their staple Big Mac but I only go for fast food once in a while as a treat otherwise the taste and grease/fat gets to you quickly. Double Quarter Pounder is amazing once in a great while.
