After having taught in a different district for 8 years, I interviewed for a position at my old high school (my dream job) this week. Within three hours I had a call back telling me I was hired. I brushed up on interview questions and watched some videos (I haven't interviewed in almost a decade) and while I am positive my experience was part of why I got hired, when I spoke to the AP who called to tell me I got this job, she said what won them over was how, when they asked me what a lesson in my classroom would look like, I said that first you'd see me go over my objectives and standards with the students. She said that of the other 15 candidates they've interviewed, I was the only one who mentioned standards.
I actually do this in my classroom, but wouldn't have even thought to mention it on my own just because, in my head, to answer that question, I should be talking about what the students are doing. But after watching this video, I was reminded that that would be important to talk about.
Anyway, moral of the story is that this is great advice. I might have gotten the job otherwise, but by following this I definitely did.

Great tips and instruction again, being a Eng/Social Studies/Music secondary teacher I like your shoutout to the band teacher thinking about a question and appreciate your advice on how to convey that I can support reading/math goals even if I'm not an actual teacher for it since music uses skills for both subjects.

If when you teach more than 50 % did not get it then it is on the teacher to restrategise the delivery of the lesson
However if less than 50 % did not get it then you can do differentiated instruction and possible some individual teaching to ensure 100 percent success
Reinforcement is also important which can be done through technology
What is the best thing to bring to the interview? Should I bring a notebook where I wrote down some important things that I want to touch on or do I commit what I want to say to memory? I get extremely nervous in interviews and I am the type to walk out and say to myself “ugh I should said this!!”

How do I tell principals I'm interviewing for that I'm not comfortable teaching 7th & 8th Math, but feel more confident teaching 5th or 6th only? Is that okay to tell them if asked? Thank you for all your help.
If asked, yes you can tell them. However, I would word it like this, "I am most comfortable teaching 5-6 grade." However, principals are going to put you where they need you. So you may not be able to request a certain grade. They do their best, but student scheduling is complex and they have to put people where it makes the most sense.

I have had my teaching certification for 20 years, but was never confident enough to apply for a teacher position, so I have worked as a TA. How can I make myself standout as a first year teacher? I’ve been getting only positive feedback from interviews, but still getting rejected because I don’t have experience yet.
That is tough because you can't invent experience. What you can do is emphasize that you are eager to learn. This shows the principal that you are coachable and will work towards school goals. You can also say that you have been researching and working on how to teach by watching UA-cam videos on differentiated instruction, using data to make decisions, etc. Make sure you watch some of my videos on those so you can answer follow up questions. Tell the principal you want to be a highly effective teacher. And while that may take a while, you are excited to learn.
