Doing this for the first time. Bike is an '05 YZ125 I got used. Came with RaceTech decals on shock and forks but presumably the shock never got attention because the peening/flare was still in place on the piston nut.
I don't think I ground off enough of the peening because when I tried to remove the nut, once the threads started to bind, it unthreaded the shock shaft from the bottom mount. Before beginning anything, I backed all clickers out all the way.
Using electric impact, I tightened the piston nut back down to thread the shaft back into the lower mount tight enough so that the shaft would stay still, that way I could grind some more of the peening off then use the impact to try removing the nut again.
Nut came off, so I've got the piston/shims off and organized on a coat hanger wire. I feel like I should remove the shock shaft from the bottom mount to clean/inspect and apply thread lock as it would be catastrophic if it unthreaded while riding. Any advice?
You're helping me save a $200 02 yz125 I bought from a friend at work. Thanks for sharing. I was scared of messing with them because of the nitrogen and warning stickers. It will ride again soon :)
Heck yeah man! Maybe you will stick around the channel!
