Lead singer Eric Burdon and the Animals recorded the song in just one take on May 18, 1964. His 23rd birthday was a week prior to the recording.
Eric's voice is epic and this is musical perfection 😊
50 years after the release of this song (10 years ago), I saw Eric Burdon sing this with the same passion in his voice as he did in 1964.
MY ENVY IS GROWING
Footnote, the bassist is Bryan James "Chas" Chandler, musician, record producer and manager, the man who brought Jimmy Hendrix to the world, fashion model Linda Keith convinced Animals' bassist Chas Chandler to see Hendrix at the Café Wha? in New York's Greenwich Village. Hendrix's performance on July 5, 1966, left Chandler awestruck. He immediately put into motion plans to bring Hendrix to London and help him become a superstar.
He also managed and produced Slade through their early career
Now 83 years old Eric Burdon still sounds great.
Eric Burdon was a real tour de force
Yeah, he has a great gravelly voice in this and you can hear the warning, frustration and anger come out in his words. My other favourite by The Animals is We've got to get out of this place
Right on. Me too, those are my favorites
This song is a classic, and its played in the movie Casino. Thanks Emma 🎉🎉🇨🇦
Good Sunday blessings
❤My fathers favorite♥️, and i love it to....we played it at his funeral 😢
The organ is so incredible. It mimics a singing voice sometimes. It can play behind the singing without distracting.
The organist goes crazy on this!!😊
I wish I had a Hammond (is it a Hammond organ?)
It's Alan Price on the keyboard, he went onto become a star in his own right, he was great too.
this one got some edginess to it. My father was listening to that song when I used to be a boy. Love it myself ever since, one of the only songs with a fitting organ besides "lite my fire" from the Doors. Another iconic song worth reacting to would be "gimme shelter" from the Rolling Stones, best intro of all time.
Same organ that the Doors used a Vox continental
I've seen Eric a few times. He still has those pipes.
Always ranks high in any all-time polls if best songs from the 1960’s!
And quite rightly so
@@darkpitcher5242 Exactly
I'm 70 years old this is one of the greatest songs ever by British band really warms my heart the youth of today or discovering something other than Taylor Swift or Beyoncé
I saw The Animals at my college in the early sixties. Dave Roberry the keyboardist was a friend in Nottingham before he went to Newcastle University where he met Eric Burdon. After the show we all went to the local pub for a pint.
A wonderful song. Props to the keyboard player. Great job!!
Great reaction Emma. The Animals were a contemporary of the Beatles. They came from Newcastle. The Beatles of course came from Liverpool. This song was a hit both in the US as well as in England. Sting, the former lead singer with the Police, is also from Newcastle as well.
The good old songs from my childhood...
A very old blues song about a house of prostitution that the Animals made their own. Another amazing version of this song is done by Nina Simone. Great reaction Emma.
The band Frijid Pink also did a great version of this song in 1970.
Next, try "We Gotta Get Outta This Place"
First concert for me. 1969 Rome, Georgia, U.S. $10.00. First song I learned on guitar. Thanks!
Emma, since you mentioned wanting to see them perform live: there is a live performance of "Rising Sun" on the Ed Sullivan show from 1964(?) in black and white on YT (they're wearing the same suits as in this video). It's one of my favorites, you can almost sense the emergence of The Animals as a force when watching this performance. Burdon kills it.
He is amazing. I love Spill The Wine, We've Gotta Get Out of This Place. Incredible and very memorable music. I feel privileged to have grown up with it.
Another song that was very popular by this group..."SKY PILOT". Thank you for reacting to "House of the Rising Sun". I think I was in grade school when they came out with these two songs.
"We got to get out of this place'' "It's my life" and "the story of Bo Diddley" Are three more of there great songs. The last one co-wrote by the man himself Bo Diddley.
one of the most common reactions to this wonderful clip is :"- where does this little man get that big voice from??" talent, people, just talent! 😊
Another song you might find interesting is "Spill the Wine (Dig That Girl)" by the band War. War had more than one lead singer, but Eric Burdon was the lead vocalist for that song. War was a total vibe.
Recorded in 1964 only one of the great groups in the British music invasion.
First single I ever bought was a different version of this song by Frijid Pink. About 1970. It was very seventies but still a great song
Ahhh....someone from Michigan
That Vox Conti gets a damm good work out by Mr Price !!
The keyboard drumming jam is god tier
The bass player is the guy that discovered jimi hendrix.
Please check out 'We Gotta Get Out Of This Place' by Animals. It's hard to convey how different the style and subject matter was from the music American teens were being exposed to by our home-grown songwriters and artists. Maybe a few of us were being exposed to the blues by our parents or grandparents, but this was a rock group and we couldn't get enough of it!
I have this on vinal. I bought it in 67 or 68. I was 13 years uld. It's one of my few treasures.
He was 23 when it was recorded but he looked about 15. Hard to believe that power was coming out of him. Love it! Interestingly enough Eric Burdon the lead singer is still alive and still singing at age of 83 I think he is now.
Wow Emma you're after my heart with this song love it thank you Emma and please I love you're interruptions
Girl it's delightful to see a Gen X er appreciate a classic 60s hit song that is boomers grew up on. Try other British invasion groups other than the Beatles and the stones, such as the kinks, Spencer Davis group, and The Yardbirds
Emma!! 🥰😍❤️💘
Great pik. Great reaction lass. Well done. Sending love from Richmond Va ☘️🇺🇲
He was 23 when he sang this. Just a kid
So glad to have been a teen when this came out!
The best version of this traditional classic. Bob Dylan also recorded a soulful interesting version..
This song is a traditional (American) folk song. This cover version is brilliant but it's better sung slower; I guess they had to fit the radio time slots so did it like this. Burdon's voice, always full of angst, is great in 'We've got to get out of this place'.
This is a song from 1925...
Joan Baez (1960)
Nina Simone (1961)
Bob Dylan (1962)
The Animals (1964)
😎🎶🎵
The lead singer is my Dads cousin. If you get the chance watch the documentary
Oh wow!!! 🤩 it’s so cool 😎
❤ The Animals ❤
Beautiful name... Emma (my granddaughter's name), beautiful lady... beautiful reaction. Thank you young lady.
The most famous song ever written whose authorship is unknown.🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
If you enjoyed that song ,please take the time to listen to Eric Burdon and War,Spill the Wine . ❤ this channel!
Madison Galloway did a fantastic live cover of this when she was just 15yrs old, and a wonderful studio version a few years later - Music evolves and inspires young people who are keeping it real, unlike the commercial pop stuff that is rammed down our throats (or ears as the case might be)
I think this song is among the most covered songs in history. I've been able to count more than 300 and I can say that this is my favorite, both for the voice and the instrumentation. I would say that Burdon is one of the most prodigious voices of all time, just listen to him at more than 70 years old after a long and successful career.
The original version of this song tells the true story of a young girl who went to work in a house of ill repute in 1800's New Orleans, Louisiana called The House Of The Rising Sun. She regretted doing that. The song was modified to fit a male singer. Great stuff.
yes and now 70 or older
Another banger of Eric Burdon is "Shadow on the wall" which he sang for Mike Oldfield.
Spill the wine ! Please do this song. Very cool !! With the band WAR.
They used to say Eric Burdon had a 50 year old man's voice in a 23 year old body, also the organ player Alan Price went on to a great solo career.
England a Land with the best Songs ever......
Angelina did great cover of it :)
Usually, editors should be in the background... but I noticed him and he should be promoted
You can try listening to Nomy cover version, it's really on fire and wild, the atmosphere is very different from the original version
60 years ago...😮
Eric had just turned 23 (with a voice that sounds 40)
They were from the north east UK and the bassist discovered Jimi Hendrix
You should check out the song "The Letter" by the Box Tops. The singer was a teenager when they recorded it. I love his voice!
I wish I could sing.
This song is an old folk song of unknown origin that predates this recording by decades
Watch the Ed Sullivan Show version. Black and white
❤ 🎶 👏👏👏
Nice song
Try their Ballad of Bo Diddley.
Deftones - hole in the earth, minerva, Diamond eyes or Back to school.
This an old US Blues tune.
you picked a great song. And it's from my era, Eric Burdon and The Animals made and covered super songs in the 60's. I could write a paragraph summing up their history but that's for another day. BTW this is right off their studio recording so they're going thru the motions in this video.
This is a very early music video. The slow walk is an epic visual.
Highly recommending the jazz cover by Marcus from Mumford and sons
Nice Reation Emma..
And please more reaction The Beatles 😊
Hi~ Emma
최근에는 비교적 고전팝으로 선곡하네요. Good~
오늘 곡도 많이 들었던 곡인데 잘 들었어요.
혹시 기회된다면 참 좋아했었던 곡인데 " (Ghost) Riders in the Sky " 추천합니다.
많은 곳에서 쓰였고 많은 가수가 불렀는데 The Outlaws 노래와 연주가 전 제일 좋았습니다.
Check out Geoff Castellucci's version of this song for a change of pace.
Elvis Costello does a good version too
Dolly Parton sung this song, but her version is about a whore house which is true to the original. It's a very old song.1
11:02 p.m.
Please watch the Ed Sullivan version!
This isn't an original woody Guthrie did it in the 40s and he covered that it is an old old song but the animals version is my favorite
He's singing about the house of prostitution....😮
You must listen to Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull
I like the studio version more than the live version of that one
Emma how bout a shout out for all the veterans all over the world on Memorial Day they keep us all safe
Can i suggest to you do a reaction to Ren - Ren - The Tale of Jenny & Screech?

Casino 1995
The camera jumping around (zooming in and out) is so 1980s. It’s vary distracting.
He is English
Lip synced. Still a great song. There’s a good live version out there and you see his real facial expressions
MONTEREY
Seriously
Five Finger Death Punch does an great cover of this song.
I think that they merely copied Bob Dylan’s arrangement mostly.
Yes, but Dylan copied Dave Van Ronk's arrangement.
Is it me or is this video highly edited?
Lip sync. Love the Animals.
Correction. Eric still lives!!!!
My error completely.
