Part of modifying and making stuff fit is part of the fun. You may not be able to find cast manifold but if ya got busy with some cardboard and transfer to a 3/8 thick piece of flange and some tubing you could tack something together that would still give you bolt access and room to put a high quality wrap around them. Once mocked up you could send out for finish welding if needed and even ceramic coated if wanted. Just a thought is all. That way you have the decision and control where that exaust is routed. Have fun!! Really creative project

I personally think that incandescent bulbs would have been way more fitting for the Olds, but if it's in the name of safety, and this is a car that will be driven, then that makes sense.
For the manifolds, if you had some tubular ones you could replace the flanges to mount the front manifolds to the rear, and the rears to the front. This way they would avoid the cross member, and could be joined at a convenient point
Thanks for an interesting update. I hope that with the Chevelle that you decide on drastic upgrade of the interior. RE: The Olds, it walks away at idle in first because of the low gear ratios. Have you given any thought to an overdrive to make it more comfortable at highway speeds? For cost reasons, most people just switch to a newer rear axle for a ratio out of the 4's and into the 3's.
Cast iron CAN be modified and welded by an expert. Many years ago, I installed a 1976 500 Cadillac engine in a 1964 Fleetwood. Was forced into modifying the existing manifolds. Knew a welding teacher, at Lincoln Electric, in Cleveland. He made my dream come true, by furnace brazing the cast iron. Custom headers may not be as pricey as you think, but not 100% sure. Either way, love these 2 projects and thanks for keeping us updated. Seems like you are taking a very logical approach to both of them. JT: Orlando Misfires CC
Hi Wizard. There's a guy in UK who made his own from a length of 2.5in exhaust pipe, log style. Seemed pretty easy with a basic mig welder. He's on youtube and was converting an old MK10 Jaguar with a V12 in place of the original 3.8 straight six.
Move the manifolds around so they both sweep backwards on each side of the block. Then make a Y or a log to connect the manifolds into one exhaust pipe for each side of the car.
For the exhaust have you considered swapping the exhaust manifolds and having a pipe that connects to the exhaust manifolds with the up pipes with a Y so that you can have them feed in as they go down to the piping? Unfortunately there isn't a draw option on UA-cam.
The work you are doing on both projects is great. The signal lights on the Olds look like they came with the car. The color of the dash is perfect. Like the gauges, they look period correct. The Chevelle is really cool with the Jag motor. Have seen many 66 - 77 Chevelle’s at car shows with digital dashes like the one you are going to use. They look awesome and everything works. Always enjoy the watching the updates on your many projects. Thanks
If they are interchangeable, you should swap the headlight buckets to the opposite sides so that the turn signals can be on the outside without drilling new holes. Having them on the inside, there are a lot of situations where they won't be visible.
I would suggest for the Chevelle that you mount the front exhaust manifold on the rear 3 cylinders. That would provide the rear dump that you are seeking. Then cut the flange off the remaining manifold and open up the front of the rear manifold and splice them together. It would reduce your manifold to only one flange but since you are using a basically stock engine it should not cause enough restriction to be a problem. As to fabricating the splice, you can use mild steel steam pipe and cut it to fit. The welding can be performed with high nickel electrode. I have done this type of fabricating before successfully. If you need a dual head pipe, you could swap the front and rear manifold and then fabricate a head pipe to go over the crossmember from the front header flange and align with the rear pipe. You didn't mention the left side exhaust in the video so I can't make a suggestion for that. IMO tubular headers would reduce back pressure and look and sound way cooler! I would also like to suggest that you consider Holly Sniper TBI injectors. They would be much simpler to install and be more efficient and reliable. A one-of-a-kind swap for sure! Good luck with it.
2 suggestions 1. Make custom manifold yourself, if performance isn't an issue. shouldn't be that difficult if you make a log style. A 3 inch pipe with 6 pieces of 1 and what ever inch welded straight into it. 2. Try swapping left and right have the dump face up if there's room you can route the exhaust back down. Least ideal but least expensive.
I like the new direction indicators on the Olds, but dare I suggest they might look better on the outside of the headlamps, rather than the inside? Then they would be visible from the side as well as the front.
Hi Wiz! Excellent! And, happily for both you and I, I just can't decide between either project. Both are excellent, though the Malibu is more my thing. Anything Chevrolet and/or Jaguar are definitely among my car obsessions. You even managed to get a C4 (my absolute favorite Vette) on one of my favorite engines! But the Oldsmobile is making me take a second look at pre-1940 vehicles. So, I can't play favorites here. Again, profuse thanks for a great viewing experience! 🖖🙏🇨🇦
For the exhaust manifolds check to see if they’re symmetrical for bolt pattern. If they are, swap the rear 2 to the other side and then at least they’ll all dump to the rear. Might be able to get creative with a collector and some extra pipe!!!
@@houseofno I don’t need to, but you do. There were no turn signal on them to begin with. I’d put seatbelts in it too. The car is not stock or OEM and it will not ever be again. It’s just irrational to talk about using it as a daily driver, but not see that the turn signals will not fill the function of turn signals, since they will not be visible from the sides.
If you're interested in a different shift knob with that pattern, Corvair 3-speeds had the same pattern. I don't think they reproduce the knobs with that pattern printed on it, but if you can find an original one it might look a little more period-correct than the big white pool ball if you're interested.

Either way, love these 2 projects and thanks for keeping us updated. Seems like you are taking a very logical approach to both of them.

my grandfather was a millwright for 50 years. he welded cast iron all the time. heated it up with a torch and low heat settings.
Wow those 2 cars are really coming along great, great job! 😍😍😍😍😍
Hi Wizard. There's a guy in UK who made his own from a length of 2.5in exhaust pipe, log style. Seemed pretty easy with a basic mig welder. He's on youtube and was converting an old MK10 Jaguar with a V12 in place of the original 3.8 straight six.
Yes Scottish guy who was doing a Sahara challenge. Terrible solution for power....
IIRC magnaflow makes a custom exhaust kit, has all the pieces parts to make your own exhaust, that may be your path of least resistance
A Marine company years ago made exhaust manifolds for the v12 Jag. I cannot recall the name. (sorry). 206 SEATTLE
2 great cars, and an awesome boat project too.Nobody else notice the irony of him being Cluster Funked.
2 suggestions
Have a look at Hayward and Scott for the jaguar Exhaust.
Hi Wiz!
Great mix Wizzo!
The worlds only reverse swap with a Jag and a Chevy.
I know, right? 😁
I can't wait to see the gauges on the Chevelle....it will give it a unique eclectic look!
My first thoughts on the Harley signal lights was they should be on the top or the outside of the headlamps.
Look up 1939 vehicle safety standards. NO such requirement. Please stop confusing a 1939 car with modern safety standards.
@@houseofno NO !!! Sounds like the advice of a fool!
@@houseofno actually it should be on the bottom, with about the rear lights 🧔
Those intake manifolds look far better than the original Jag stuff.
For the exhaust manifolds check to see if they’re symmetrical for bolt pattern. If they are, swap the rear 2 to the other side and then at least they’ll all dump to the rear. Might be able to get creative with a collector and some extra pipe!!!
I believe I would’ve mounted the turn signals on the opposite side of where they are now mounted.
In 1939 for a 1939 model year vehicle? Do your research please.
@@houseofno I don’t need to, but you do. There were no turn signal on them to
begin with.
The guys that do the touch up for used car dealerships and wholesalers can exact match on site. They take a picture and with software and magic..
Will the manifolds bolt up in opposite locations where you have a front and rear dump?
That was exactly my thought, also thought I'd check the comments before I added my say 😁🤣
What I thought as well. Might be difficult though with a dump all the way in the front.
I think front dump is out of the question, because crossmember
My grandfather had a muscle car like yours it was my first V8 I ever made
If you have to go custom made on the headers, I think some equal length headers would be incredible. If that can even fit
I love the 38 Oldsmobile, even though the headlights dazzle the drivers, LoL. I also love hearing the train horn in the background 👍👍😬
Great to see the progress, Car Wizard. Good. Solid. Super!
Can not WAIT to see the finished V12!
Get a friend in the airline industry to additively print a custom exhaust header for you.
Ask Mike Finnegan and Dave Newbern to fab you some headers. They love that stuff!!
