- On this adventure, Heather and I explore the Miette Hot Springs area searching for trails and summits! We discovered the hot springs unfortunately closed for the 2021 season which lead us to discovering the old facilities of the hot springs and the trails surrounding the area.
You'll find the Sulpher Skyline trailhead by driving highway 16 to Pocahontas, 44.3 km east of the lights at the west end of Jasper. Turn onto the Miette Hot Springs Road (Pocahontas as well), and proceed 16.9 km to the Miette Hot Springs parking area. The hiking trail starts above and right of the pool complex.

I used to guide trail rides up to the top of that ridge. Mystery Lake was also primarily a horse trail. Parks Canada took the stable out of there in the late 80's I believe.
Did you need to scramble at all or was it all walkable trail?
The path to the false summit is a wide trail, you could drive a small ATV up there if it was legal! The last part to the summit, it’s mainly rocks & scree, don’t need a trail and it’s wide open with maybe a 50 degree incline for a few hundred meters. No hands involved besides on your poles if you use them for ascending.
Hi, is the 3hr hiking time includes the descent or it is just for going to the top?
Great video. Thanks!
It was 3:08 total time (top to bottom) including a 30 mins rest for lunch at the lookout. If you look at the Naismith rule, it should take 2:55 total time without breaks for the average hiker. My times are usually quite modest because I have to make a lot of stops to record video, so I’m probably a fast hiker but average speed due to my content production.
Excellent video
Great detailed video!
It’s an easy trail but definitely stunning views. The wind feature at the top is also routine, so those crazy winds we’re kind of the norm
