My wife and I always played by stacking cards but we find regular UNO a bit boring. We have the write your own rules version, UNO Flip, and Dos, any of those are go-tos (Dos being the favorite of the aforementioned games.)
Yes, stacking cards definitely takes it up a notch. We agree that after playing other variations, regular Uno is a bit slow. We haven't tried Dos, we'll have to add that one to our list.
FWIW, the greatest # of cards I've had to draw is 20 when the fourth +5 from UNO Flip was played.

@@LisaandKyleGetBoard There are eight +5 cards; at least it was only twenty and not forty (!!) (We've had to remake the discard pile a couple times.)
That's a lot of +5! It stinks when you're the one drawing all those cards, but it's also what makes it so much more interesting.
Oops, the husband actually won the first game. The wife played a red one on a green three as her second to last play. Ha ha but he did not catch it.
I should say he could have won. I guess it was not a guarantee. Ha ha
Dang! You're absolutely right! Good eye. Lisa pulled a fast one. Oh well... I guess it happens to the best of us and Kyle won the other hands so Lisa is still making Kyle breafast. 😂
