Yea I always believed Arnold's parents fading into the light as the doors closed was strangely ominous. Like it was too dramatic. Of all the ways to close out a show, they did it soo symbolically. The show was going to center around Helga who would be in a long distance relationship with Arnold. Who was going to be travelling with his parents post-the Jungle Movie.
People are reading way too much in to a show that was meant to teach us all something about love and friendship, the creator has confirmed all these theories are baseless and the show deals with dark and sad events plenty without adding extra dark themes to it.
