That's why i don't like the stock Player Jazzmaster. They goofed up big time when they decided to use humbuckers instead of jazzmaster pickups. CME and now you guys decided to fix Fender's mistake.
I have a J Mascis Squire Jazzmaster that I swapped out the pickups on because they are actually p-90s and not Jazzmaster Pickups. I swapped to a Fender pure vintage '65 Jazzmaster pickups and it sounds great. They have great satin finish necks. The J Mascis also has the Rhythm Circuit with 1 meg Pots.
As a person utterly obsessed with 80's "alternative" scene - especially British import stuff - I genuinely thought I knew every band of that era/genre. Many thanks to The Captain for introducing me to one I just somehow missed! Just goes to show.... there's always more to learn.
The 4 way switching is actually: bridge/parallel/neck/series. Also, are you sure they have Mustang bridges? One reviewer sad they have the standard JM bridge which he couldn’t wait to swap out.
It sounds like position 2 and 4 are the series/parallel positions and 3 is the neck by itself. like the old Baja Tele's 4 way switching. They sound great, I want a Jazzmaster so bad, but in Ocean Turquoise hehe.
I'm more looking at Fender Japan models. They regularly have ocean turquoise models with matching headstock. Great quality and price (especially if you buy one in Japan), but they very rarely export them and the prices get jacked when they get to Europe.
Oh fuck, I ordered one before I even finished the video. This is the Jazzmaster I've always wanted. Vintage pickups but upgraded bridge and a series switch position
I used to not care, but I'm now team rosewood. That said Pau Ferro looks really good on roasted maple necks. On regular necks, it really needs to match the color way for me to prefer it over rosewood.
Yeah, there seems to be a club of people with righteous indignation about “it’s all about playability over looks” when it’s just not the case, I ALWAYS end up getting something that looks cool hoping I like it and usually I do, with that said, team rosewood!!!
@@matthewtucker1699 For sure! To me personally, aesthetics of an instrument play a huge part in how inspiring it is or can be to me besides tones and playability of course. Just like I like certain types of furniture, architecture and design in general - I like to surround myself with things that are visually pleasing to me and an instrument should ideally be absolutely stunning to the musician. I get the whole environmental aspect, and actually hugely approve that these problems are considered. I just wish there was a darker alternative...ebony?...or is that a non-environmentally friendly wood as well?
I don't understand why the player series Jazzmasters don't get a proper lockable trem. Being able to quickly switch between locked/floating is one of the biggest things I love about my Jazzmaster compared to my Strat.
The guys in this video explained this is actually a mustang bridge on these. I can attest that I have no issues with my CME Player Jazzmaster Bridge. I previously owned a Jazzmaster with the shitty bridge, and this is waaaaay better.
And Stones is an absolute classic track from the blue aeroplanes. Some amazing tape delay from Angelo the best of the 40+ guitarists they’ve had over the years.
I had one in 1980, I traded a 1975 Tele for it (big mistake) then I put a DIMarzio in the bridge (second mistake) then I loaned it to a guy and never saw it again a HUGE MISTAKE!
Rad vid as usual. I actually have this exact Jazzmaster and I believe position 3 is the neck pickup and 4 is the parallel. Otherwise I am totally losing my mind lol.
I was seriously digging on that intro Guys. Good gravy Captain Lee! That Olive Green one is seriously speaking to me! These look like tons of fun I imagine. Cheers!
Thank you for this video. I have the nearly identical Jazzmaster model in black sourced in Australia. Same colours, switching, pickups etc, minus only the fancy scroll script on the black headstock. I am looking for a good general purpose OD/drive pedal for this - into a DV MARK JAZZ 12, which you have also reviewed, though only with HB guitars. What would you suggest? Thank you again for your channel.
That black one looks amazing. While the matching headstock is cool, I’ve love to see it with a roasted maple neck. That jangle does sound a bit Smiths like; add some dirt and tremolo and it would sound great playing How Soon Is Now. Good to hear you also mention the Stone Roses. I listened to their debut album in continuous rotation got about a year, along with The Charlatans UK, Primal Scream, etc. Here in Texas, we called it the Manchester Sound….
Look up the Fender *Classic* Player Jazzmaster if you want to buy used, or I think it's now called the... Vintera? Same specs. edit: the Squier Classic Vibe is suprisingly good too - basically the high end of Squier, quality barely below the MiM Fenders in my experience
With this style of trem system, can you tighten it to the body or lock it down in some similar way and treat it like a hardtail like you can with a strat?
They look excellent but I rather wish they'd brought back the sunburst with black headstock one from last year. Didn't have the money to get that guitar then, but I do now. 😕
A limited edition run of the same Jazzmasters shown here but with a Candy Apple Red finish and matching headstock would be amazing! They would sell out straight away!
They're out of the green except for the ones some Japanese seller bought and drove the price way up. Which I'm PISSED about, NEED fender/cme to do another run, gotta be that green. And if the hustle guy would please eat broken glass.
"can't blame someone for just trying to making a buck" yes you can. I don't care if it's legal, there's very limited stock and you take away the option to get it for the affordable price it was at and selling it for nearly twice as much. What the hell? Shame on you.
@@andertons Thanks! We left the UK due to Brexit but still love your store and have some store credit/loyalty points. Will look up that video. F*ck Brexit! :), love Andertons!
Damn The Blue Aeroplanes haven't heard about them since forever (can you imagine how hard it was to get a record of them in Australia back then? most of what I know of them were tapes with songs recorded off late night university AM radio) reminded me a lot of a English version of the Go-Betweens meet The Triffids
Love you guys. Hope Fender appreciates how hard you are trying to make those guitars sound good. I really like the look and the green is awesome. Wonder what would you have if you out a set on Montys in?
Lee’s rig sounds better to me. A Jazzmaster needs a to be fed a steady diet of copious amounts of fuzz. I’d love to hear one played through the clean channel of an Orange TH30 w/PPC-212 closed-back cab, through an EHX OP Amp Big Muff RI, or Ram’s Head RI. Then I’d like to hear it through the dirty channel Of said TH30 and cab, with only the amp’s natural overdrive.
Fuck !! I just bought a Telecaster Player plus in candy red with one extra single coil from the Strat. I love it but I want another jazzmaster especially that green !! I have a American jazzmaster performer but it’s a hybrid of a Strat and jazzmaster. It has a Strat bridge. Damn !!! Although now I have a Jazzmaster, Strat, and now a telecaster. The fender trio
I wish they were avail in the states... but 58$ shipping... and then converting to USD its about 920$ and then add a 10% import tax.... well that sucks... maybe next time.
This is what the Player Series should have been
That's why i don't like the stock Player Jazzmaster.
They goofed up big time when they decided to use humbuckers instead of jazzmaster pickups.
CME and now you guys decided to fix Fender's mistake.
That's why I'd actually prefer the Squier.
yes i would only want a P90 model

I swapped to a Fender pure vintage '65 Jazzmaster pickups and it sounds great. They have great satin finish necks. The J Mascis also has the Rhythm Circuit with 1 meg Pots.
The JMJM is a fantastic guitar (and the best Jazzmaster under £800 IMO)
And a wider neck than these
As a person utterly obsessed with 80's "alternative" scene - especially British import stuff - I genuinely thought I knew every band of that era/genre. Many thanks to The Captain for introducing me to one I just somehow missed! Just goes to show.... there's always more to learn.
Ok WHOEVER IS STEPPING UP THE FUN EDITING OF THESE GETS ALL OF MY LOVE TODAY.
👀🤙
“Humbuggery”!
This is what the Player Jazzmaster should be. Humbuckers in a JM just look wrong. I NEED one of these!
checked the Blue Aeroplanes and liked them! kinda Pastels vibe, the Shop Assistants and early Primal Scream. Thanks Lee :)
The 4 way switching is actually: bridge/parallel/neck/series.
Also, are you sure they have Mustang bridges? One reviewer sad they have the standard JM bridge which he couldn’t wait to swap out.
Never really got on to the matching headstock thing but they're definitely looking good! That olive 😍
Mines arrived from you a few weeks ago lee , love it , black finish . Thanks again :)
It sounds like position 2 and 4 are the series/parallel positions and 3 is the neck by itself. like the old Baja Tele's 4 way switching. They sound great, I want a Jazzmaster so bad, but in Ocean Turquoise hehe.
The Miami Blue Am Pro 2 is the closest thing they have in production
I'm more looking at Fender Japan models. They regularly have ocean turquoise models with matching headstock. Great quality and price (especially if you buy one in Japan), but they very rarely export them and the prices get jacked when they get to Europe.
I put a 4 way switch on a tele about 10 years ago. Position 3 is the neck and position 4 is series.
Yes, I have one of these and you are correct. Position 3 is the bridge pickup only.
I mean neck lol now I'm confusing myself
Oh fuck, I ordered one before I even finished the video. This is the Jazzmaster I've always wanted. Vintage pickups but upgraded bridge and a series switch position
Cool video, humor & edit on point again! These Jazzmasters look great! I just can't really stand Pau Ferro aesthetics...
I used to not care, but I'm now team rosewood. That said Pau Ferro looks really good on roasted maple necks. On regular necks, it really needs to match the color way for me to prefer it over rosewood.

Reverend does pau ferro well - roasted maple neck and yellow dot inlays so the colours all work together

If going back to rosewood is not an option, maybe they should consider using richlite
This is almost my perfect guitar, just wish it came in a sparkle finish. Would be an instant buy if it did.
Jazzmaster is my favorite fender. I dig the green. If I didn't have 2 jazzies already I'd be on board for another one
Any recommendations on which one to pick up? Ive had my eye on the vintera 60s lately.

First gig I ever went to was the Blue Aeroplanes at the Zap Club in Brighton, must have been around 1987... 😀
Saw them and Half Man Half Biscuit back in the day!
I got the olive one. Looks great, unfortunately it’s a noisy guitar that I’ll need to look into shielding properly
Yeah I had one which was ever so noisy. Didn’t keep eventually and sold it to a famous pedal maker !

THANK YOU for opening with music that JM players might actually find appealing. 90% of the demo videos open with bluesy noodling full of boomer bends.
Oh man. Those indie rock tones had my HEART go on lads you're killing it!!
I was seriously digging on that intro Guys. Good gravy Captain Lee! That Olive Green one is seriously speaking to me! These look like tons of fun I imagine. Cheers!
Got one of these from CME a few months back. Threw a Staytrem bridge on it.. best guitar I've ever owned.
Jacket Hangs - The Blue Aeroplanes, nothing wrong with that. Good stuff!
That Olive Green is sweet!
I LOVE the decibel meter, thank you!
I got the pacific peach limited edition jazzmaster and I love it so much!
Fun fact, olives come in green and black. Next FRS in Paprika Red, Yellow and Green?
They just announced a new peppercorn Jaguar. No one’s really sure what it’s going to look like.
These edits are pretty hilarious please keep doing them
I'm feeling that jam out. Dig it!
They sound like early Stereolab at the beginning! 3:45 the single funniest thing ever about Pau Ferro!
They look and sound incredible
Love The Tuning Pete That was pretty Hilarious, Rock On 👍👍🎶🎶🎸Keepem Coming

you call primal scream, a scottish band, the manchester sound?
I just want a Jazzmaster with the Rhythm/Lead circuit without spending $1600+
I believe these are pre-wired so you can install it after the fact. In 2/3rd through the vid but have been eyeballing this guitar for weeks now.

The jam you guys did in intro would be a perfect ad jingle.
My favorite guitar superhero duo on the interwebs.
Great-looking and sounding guitars! Love the green one Lee played.
That end jam is where it's at.
Olive Green is nice.
Ooo let's speculate!!
That fuzz sound Lee had. "Top secret till later in the year."
BOSS FZ-1 Waza?
A new EHX Muff?
A tone city tone bender?!
I don’t know but I liked the sound.
Looks like a Tone City mini pedal of some kind. Maybe a Chappers Signature?
The opening jam reminded me of the britpop days of the mid 90s
The closing jam had a rather James Bond flavor to it, I dig it!

Nice guitars....Think Mastery for the bridges.....I have an older CIJ Jazz Master and it has become a mainstay....Just need a Victory Amp now...
Could you please tell me what pedals, amps you guys used to get those sweet and crunchy tones and that looped backing track? Sounded awesome guys!
What was that remark, about tuning @12:07?
Love the Blue Aeroplanes!
Blue Aeroplanes are still going, guitar pop, not bad!

Are these an idea of what a Player Plus Jazzmaster might be like??? 👀 I like!
I thought you were about to break into some surf music at any second.
So it's a Doheny but with the bad tremolo? Sounds good to me
My band played with the blue aeroplanes!
The Blue Aeroplanes wonder why their November streams are up ten thousand per cent.
