I've browsed through all of the Jazzmaster videos on UA-cam. This is the best one. Really shows the versatility of the instrument. Got to get one of these for myself...Cheers.
After many years of playing first, 335's, and then Tele's, I decided to try a Jazzmaster, I loved it!! So much that I built myself a REALLY nice one. THEN, I convinced my good friend Rob Turner (owner, founder & CEO of EMG), to make a set of EMG's for Jazzmasters. They will be on the market in a few weeks, but I already have a set in my Turbocaster TJM Deluxe, which I built for myself. If you like the clean, crisp Jazzmaster PU's, you'll LOVE these!! They are also more versatile, so one guitar works for everything! After over 50 years of performing, I actually found the tone I've had in my head all those years (Turbocaster TJM Deluxe & BF Fender Deluxe Reverb)!! My Tele style guitars are now gathering dust!
Great playing! I have not seen a more complete guitarist in terms of playing styles and genres. The tones from the JM were awesome! Thanks for making this video.
That is hands down one of the most beautiful finishes I think I've ever seen. Congrats man! I'm a recent convert to Jazzmasters, I own a Fender player Jazzmaster and I love it. One of the most comfortable guitars to play standing or sitting, I think even more so than my Stratocaster. I can only dream of a custom shop axe like this for now hahaha. The tone on this particular guitar is unreal, did you try a few or was you just lucky with this one?
Me too Richard, started thinking about them around 5 years ago but always thought they wouldn't be versatile or useable. Spend some time with one and you suddenly realise it's like a Strat and Tele crossed together. In a weird way I feel like my Fender collection is complete now I have one though who knows, maybe I'll go hunting a Jaguar or old Mustang next! The Player Jazzmasters are wonderful, Fender have really got it together with a lot of this stuff now. I did play a few on the way to this one - a Vintage reissue which was great (and much cheaper) and a few other Custom Shops. The CS guitars were good but this one had more clarity and sparkle so I went with it!
@@StuartRyanMusic the clarity and sparkle come through loud n clear on this end! 😎👍 I was wondering what rig you were playing through because the chiminess was so crystal. Was it a Twin? (Amp)

Hi Jack, they are really cool - the only thing I'd advise is to try a few different JM models as they are all quite different, some are more Tele-like in their 'spikiness' tone wise etc
I’ve owned a Jazzmaster longer than any other guitar. Leo got it bang on with this superb design. Imagine a guitar with a trem, which allows those epic Gilmour bends, but doesn’t go out of tune when you simultaneously play a drone note on an open bass string; that’s a JM. Love my Strat, but the JM’s pickups give an incomparable sugary sparkle. Great for so many styles; tho’ have recently discovered it also suits 80’s pop/synthwave better than anything. Thanks for a superb & very inspiring in-depth demo of the JM. Killer chops!
Im only just starting out guitar, well I've been playing for a bit over a year but it definitely feels like I started yesterday because the progress is so slow haha. I've played mostly classical guitar and am only just switching to an electric as well as taking guitar lessons and man at this point I can appreciate how hard it is to play things so they sound good, and here's you doing so many flipping generes and making them all sound amazing, such a versatile guitarist, let alone a great one...
Guitar is such a hard instrument on so many levels - think about how a piano gives up the sound with hardly any effort. Guitar is a lot of fight until one day it gives something back and then the fun really begins! Stick with it, you'll master it! Thanks for the kind words - I've been doing this for over 30 years now but I still remember the early days!
Don't worry man, this guy is better than probably almost any famous guitarist. People practice professionally their whole lives and don't acheive this kind of mastery.
This is the best Jazzmaster demo video I’ve seen - I immediately subscribed and shared the video with my brother. I have a Fender Custom Shop Jazzmaster, too. Mine is a Sonic Blue 1962 NOS with a tortoise pick guard, made in 2012 - when was yours made?
Ah thank you! I love the CS Jazzmasters, not many here in the UK. It's a 2018 - seems to have hung around in the shop for a long time but then they are not many people's first (or any!!) choice of guitar
@Clucky Plucker you seem oddly disturbed by a simple inanimate object... good luck to you. I hope you'd don't have to run into any more "ugly" guitars.
@Clucky Plucker suit yourself, I think they look cool as hell. There's video of joe pass using a jazzmaster or a jag, can't remember which, though it was obviously short lived. I think jazzmasters are quirky and unique looking without being absurd. If I saw somebody at a jazz gig with one, I'd dig it.
You sir, are an incredible player, and you really present a good case for buying a JM. The problem is, after listening to you, and at my 68 year old stage of existence, they would most certainly get out the backhoe before I could ever do it justice.
I've never played one, and was unaware of the dual system switching scheme that you've covered. Very impressive playing. I'm with your wife on the color though, that's a truly ghastly, purplish pink. I'd like to hear more about the bridge/saddles, and how well the trem works and stays in tune.
She did raise her eyebrows when I got it home! I was in two minds about the colour myself but it played and sounded so good I had to have it. The bridge on this the Fender RSD which stays in tune and intonates perfectly - sadly Fender don't sell it on its own and it only appears on Custom Shop Models. Hopefully they will change that as it makes for a very useable guitar. Best wishes, Stuart
Great vid! Love your surf jam to close it out. I bought a JM to ring in the new year and am super happy with it. Bit of a dream guitar for me. Covers all the genres. Surf, rockabilly, punk, garage...
Hi Jason, they really do so much - surf is just the tip of the iceberg. Ironically I bought mine for studio work as I found Strats and Teles weren't quite doing Surf as much as I wanted - I subsequently discovered the full range of a JM!

Your knowledge and explanations are great. However, your playing is unreal! So happy I saw this! You rock!
Thanks Greg you are very kind! Really glad you enjoyed it! Best wishes, Stuart
They do everything- really well
That atmospheric bit at 14:51 or so was just lovely. Very nice playing, and what a great sounding guitar!
What a wonderful demo-sophisticated playing across a variety of styles with a professional and informative presentation. Thanks a lot!
That particular tremolo gives you a great tool. Pick behind the bridge. cool stuff.
Great playing! I have not seen a more complete guitarist in terms of playing styles and genres. The tones from the JM were awesome! Thanks for making this video.
Thanks for watching and the kind words, really pleased you enjoyed it!
I saw a Squire Jazzmaster at a pawnshop. As soon as I saw that hardtail bridge. I was in love.
(Amp)
@@lueysixty-six7300 This was just through a Kemper using a 64 Deluxe Reverb profile. I like the Kemper for the convenience but this guitar actually sounds a lot better through a real amp
The way you play and the way you make that guitar sound would make a lot of people want one. Now I gotta find more of your demos to see what else I wanna buy
Leo took the strat to artists and fine tuned the design. On the jazz, he did everything on his own without anyone's opinion. The guy was a genius.
Great demo.
Love mine...bought after 45 years of playing strats.
Best Jazzmaster demo I've ever seen. I wasn't sure about getting one - now I'm sold thanks to you.
Subbed to your channel - I'm sure there's lot more great content in it. Peace!
Thank you! I thought about one of these guitars for about 5 years before finally going for it - really glad I did as it brings a new sound in. Best wishes, Stuart
the best review I have seen so far about this guitar, thanks!
Best Jazzmaster demo ever. Your technique is flawless. Please, please use a lapel mic.
Thanks Steve, really pleased you enjoyed it! I was using a lavalier here but I must have set the gain too low, will bump it up next time. All the best, Stuart
Now that's how you make a Real review video about guitars, Kids!.. The versatility of genres, Good sound quality, and a best appropriate infos and uses. 10/10
Thank you!
Thank you for demoing all the different styles. Was torn between getting this or a strat but I think I'm sold to the jazzmaster
Hi Jack, they are really cool - the only thing I'd advise is to try a few different JM models as they are all quite different, some are more Tele-like in their 'spikiness' tone wise etc
That's good to know, thanks for the reply. Once music shops open back up I will give them a test, thanks again
Probably the best demo video I've ever seen. Subbed and sold on jazzmaster. I'd give this 100 likes if I could.
Awesome how you demonstrated picking in different places on the string nobody ever mentions that.
The tonal range of these guitars is crazy! Thanks for watching
Gonna watch this on half speed n learn those licks, lovely sound
😳 Damn! Dude is really good! Great chops in multiple genres.
That Jazz Master is awesome too!
i dont understand why people like you arent bigger on you tube.
14:27 love this and mine does the same sound with much simpler playing. It really encourages finger picking. Oh, through a Fender Chorus and Champ.
Q: What's a Jazzmaster for??
A: Well... basically everything...
It makes you wonder if they had called it something different would it have gained more popularity? Thanks for watching!
@Clucky Plucker why you gotta be so rude lol? It's by no means a "fideous" guitar.
Great guitar! I love the colour. Mine is in surf green and it's one of my 'go to' instruments.
Thank you! I love the Surf green JMs - I had a choice of 4 and it came down to this or a Surf green one!
Top shelf delivery for explaining this monstrosity! known as the "Jazzmaster" hats off Bubba
@@StuartRyanMusic Don't let these old fashioned mindsets get into your head! :) The color is awesome, it looks incredible.
and to think my first big guitar purchase i saved a jazzmaster from a guitar center. it just spoke to me. love my pau ferro jazzy :)
"What Is A Jazzmaster For?"... for EVERYTHING of course!
awesome playing, by the way
12:50 avoiding the youtube copystrike like an expert
No kidding!
Did you think he was gonna play Iron Man or something? 😁
@14:21 - so vibey, I could listen to more of that. Felt like that thing artists do at big arena concerts where they build up to their hit song.
