Tip for your twin tip skis: separate them first and put them in the ski rack one at a time.

Why do the towers near the top of Stage 2 have to be so tall? Doesn’t that make it susceptible to wind closures?

It has to do with stopping distance if there's a grip fault. Usually, it would be a failed grip force test, which is done right before a cabin fully leaves the terminal. In the event this happens, the entire lift system must come to a complete stop before the grip leaves the level haul rope between the last tower and the top station. Even though it doesn't run at full speed regularly, Blackcomb Gondola is designed for 1200 FPM speeds, which means this level section must be even longer to compensate for that. Having the grip on level rope means it's much less likely to slide downhill on the haul rope, potentially hitting another cabin or falling to the ground. The reason they don't do something similar to this at the bottom station is because the cabin obviously won't fall or slide far. Some of this information may be slightly inaccurate, as this is what I've been able to deduce based on the snippets of info I've found from different sources, but it's the best I've got.

@@sorenjones Jupiter Express has its breakover right outside the top terminal, so there’s not much of a flat line between the terminal and the last tower. Does Jupiter stop faster than Blackcomb Gondola?

Same speed as my December trip - about 850 fpm, which doesn’t make sense. For a 1200 fpm lift, it should be running at 1000 fpm, like Steamboat’s gondola normally does.

Mont tremblant gondola has a 2200 foot vert and takes 7-8 minutes, this one takes 20 for a 3500 vert. Runs way too slow and the mid station also slows things down

@@theroadnottakentravel Tremblants gondola is slower than the blackombs nowadays. Was up at tremblant in March, and the main gondola was running under 4.5mps, not to mention the tremblant gondola sounded like maintenance gave up on it with how loud the terminals and the sheaves were, like it genuinely felt unsafe (which isnt surprising for a quebec resort) The tremblant lift infrastructure has been a disaster for 15+ years now with the longest ski lines in eastern north america since the tblant mountain management decided that theyd stop investing in upgrading and developing new hsq's and 6's, and just allow capacity to double without any infrastructure upgrades aside from building a useless casino gondola to a failed development. Anyone whose thinking of skiing at tremblant, I would highly recommend going to mont saint marie where there are equally as modern high speed detachable lifts, but without the oversold lines (where the management actually cares about the skiing experience, not just profits like tremblant) or go south to Loon, Jay Peak, or Killington, which are resorts deserving of your time and money. Tremblant is genuinely one of the worse major mountains in the east with a laughable vertical and terrain variety, longest lines in eastern north america, and a bunch of rude quebec french staff that will call you derogatory slurs and discriminate against you if you speak english.

Well, they don't fit in any of the gondolas ski racks because of the insane camber. Otherwise, they work great in the snow we got at Whistler. I can go fast in them, and they feel pretty stable.
