After the overwhelming response I got on my last Los Shakers cover (“Always You”), I been wanting to do another one of their songs. Well, here’s the first of two!
For those who aren’t familiar with Los Shakers, they were a fantastic 60s band from Uruguay, often called “Latin America’s answer to The Beatles.”
In my opinion, “Everybody Shake” is a perfect example of 60s beat music. The bass riff is directly lifted from “I Saw Her Standing There” - but that’s fair game because Paul himself borrowed it from Chuck Berry’s “I’m Talking About You.” :)
As with many of Los Shakers’ songs, the lyrics are kind of broken nonsense English, but I think it adds charm to their tracks. I actually regret changing some of the lyrics on my “Always You” cover, so this time I’ve kept them as close to the original as possible. It’s a bit hard to tell what Hugo and Osvaldo are singing at times, but I did my best!
What I changed from the original:
-Lowered the key to D (original of E was just too high to sing)
-Added a guitar solo and extra fills
-Added a lower harmony on the second bridge
-Changed the rhythm of handclaps during the bridges
The lead vocals are double tracked (not shown) - I imagine this would be Hugo and Osvaldo singing in unison, so a two-track vocal makes sense. I also finally figured out how to do good handclaps (which run through the ENTIRE song!) - the trick is layering it 4 times and adding some nice studio slapback echo. It makes sense too, because both these groups (Beatles/Shakers) likely overdubbed the handclaps last, and there’s four of each of them. :)
Finally, the lead guitar (fills and solo) is double tracked as well.
Thanks again! Cheers,
Nick

The Fatorusso brothers would be so proud of this! Keep it coming, man! Hope you do, 'The Child and Me' next.
Such a rare thing for a band to make their entire discography diverse and all-round amazing, with almost zero filler. Los Shakers were legendary and I'm so glad to see this amazing cover.
Came here from Reddit. Los Shakers are amazing. Hard to describe how utterly massive they were back then, especially in South America.
They sure are! It's too bad Los Shakers aren't as well known over here in the states. I didn't know this was posted on Reddit! Mind if I ask where?
@@NickMartellaro They should be better known in America and England. Vocalist Hugo Fattorusso received a Grammy, and was the creator of the Samba do Janeiro riff.
Superb cover! Please do more Los Shakers. They're an amazing band that sounded closest to The Beatles. You've done a very good solo here too - very Rubber Soul/Shakers For You styled.
I sincerely appreciate you commenting on the solo, my friend :)
So excited to see you back with another Los Shakers cover! It was a LONG wait! Looking forward to "Nos Fuimos"!
Muy bueno !! saludos desde Argentina donde los Shakers desarrollaron su carrera...!!
Sin duda son la banda que más se le ha acercado a los Beatles en Latinoamérica. O en el Río de la Plata por lo menos.
60s music is so unashamedly happy! Please do more Los Shakers covers. The Toto's Bar album of their's is epic!
It´s a superb cover. South American rock is an uncharted land for people in English speaking areas, and has many many gems. As always, you´re great!
1:28 love that John Lennon scream. The presentation of the video is also top notch. Our man, looking sharp as hell in a suit and the black and white 60s effect. Presentation is what's lacking in today's UA-cam culture and you are 10/10! Much respect and a great song.
I agree. Can't remember the last time someone wore a suit to shoot a YT video. Very classy.
Thank you so much for the kind comment! The suit was just a cheap thrift store addition, but it gets the job done. If you don't mind me asking, was this video posted somewhere recently? I just got a bunch of comments on this track out of nowhere! Take care, and appreciate ya watching. :)
@@NickMartellaro I saw it on reddit
@@NickMartellaro Do you know Los Mockers from Uruguay?
Los Shakers covers/tributes? INSTANT SUB! I freakin' love those guys
Fantastic cover! I'm so glad you did another Los Shakers cover. They don't get the coverage they deserve sadly... I'd love to hear you do covers of their songs Nena Si Si (Baby Yes Yes) and Quieres Por Favor (Won't You Please)! Of course, there's plenty more of their songs I'd love to hear you do, but I don't wanna just bombard you with requests hahaha. I know you're busy. You're bringing attention to these songs that honestly don't get enough attention from people anymore. Keep up the good work Nick!
Thanks! I will definitely consider doing others. "Forgive Me (No Fuimos)" is already recorded and currently in the process of being edited. :)
Gray Armstrong that’s my fave off their first and won’t you please a great non album track (cept for their Audio fidelity effort)
would love to see these and others
Wow, great guitar licks there, Nick. Love it. Respect from Montevideo.
Love it Nick! Keep 'em coming !! We are here to listen to YOU !!
I just keep coming back here again and again..it's so good!
Bien si si! Arriba Los Shakers!
Amazing cover, as always!
Professional level performance! I don't know this band but the Beatles influence really sounds through and the music is great.
I like that all the band members are nicely dressed in matching suits and ties.
another Great cover .. yaaaaa You !!..
I've got a Request for You Nick ..
the Raspberries .. I Wanna be With You .. and .. Go All the Way ..
do Your Nick Thang .. give it a go .. thanks .. a Big Fan of Yours ..
amazing! love your videos man keep going!
Man! This just blown my mind! I'm from Uruguay, and I had a rockabilly band in Argentina. When I decided to cover this song, I asked Osvaldo Fattoruso (through a cousin) his permission and to give me the lyrics. He said that it would be great to hear our version, but I could forget the lyrics because they were pretty than mimic of english hahaha So... could you share with me what you finally sung here? Thanks and cheers!!!
Thanks for the comment! Glad you liked it. As for the lyrics, they should all be written on the tab. Link is in the description :)
Go cat go!
Wow, superb work as always Nick. U never fail to effuse the deep essense of the 60s sound. Love your work.
I'm pretty sure this song was written after Seventeen. So other way around.
@@The_910
Sorry, I agree. You are absolutely right. How come the Beatles, didn't sue them.???. It's a straight lift off.
@@lloydpinto623 I imagine they weren't sued because they were pretty much a blip on th e radar
Especially being from Uraquay.
@@lloydpinto623 The Beatles didn't sue because they didn't write it, either. The riff comes from Chuck Berry's 1961 track, "I'm Talking About You" (which The Beatles also covered at the BBC, and I have a version here on UA-cam!) - here's a quote from Macca himself: "Here’s one example of a bit I pinched from someone: I used the bass riff from 'Talkin’ About You' by Chuck Berry in 'I Saw Her Standing There'. I played exactly the same notes as he did and it fitted our number perfectly." There ya go! :)

Thanks Nick. I remember that this bassline was nicked by Paul, just which song from, I couldn't remember.
Excelente!, como siempre.

'Shakers For You' is an amazing album! Every song is superb, especially Hear My Words and Picking Up Trouble.
Stephen Rao i know, was my favorite album for about a month or two. i’m picking up the new reissue of it when some copies start to trickle into the US so i don’t have to pay a lot for shipping
Awesome!
Genial!
lyrics of the song ?
😮😮😊
Una de las pocas canciones propias de Los Shakers donde se nota la fuente... Dave Clark Five "Can't You See That She's Mine" ua-cam.com/video/fsPlbKCZQP4/v-deo.html
Shakers Los Beatles del Rio de La Plata , pero con letras propias
Y con ritmos regionales.
You should be running around like berserk, like Los Shakers.
Mejor que la original de Los Shakers. Esta versión al menos tiene un puente con un punteo de guitarra.
