My place I'm living has very harsh and super hot weather so my skin sometimes tend to feel itchy or become more sensitive with all skincare products I'm using. Only 5 things which help my skin recovered is Bioderma cleansing water (too, I agree that Bioderma is holly grail of so much people), Cerave gentle cleanser, Estee Lauder Advanced night repair, Trilogy rosehip oil ( this pure oil is best oil I've ever used, helps my skin calm and spots would be soothed, It's also the master of fading acne dark scars) and Drunk Elephant Sunblock which is physical suncream getting lots of beneficial added ingredients to give more antioxidants, this brand is amazing, you should check it out, I have planed to buy the growing star - C Firma Day serum ( contains CEF formula like your Hollu grail skinceuticals CEF serum but coloring with fermented extracts).

There are many factors in treating rosacea at home. One resource I discovered that succeeds in merging these is the Natural Remedy Blueprint (check it out on google) definately the most useful plan i've heard of. Check out all the incredible information .

Where were you when I had terrible eczema breakouts all over my face and my skin really did crack when I smiled and my eye just closed because the skin was so compromised in couldn't open it without bleeding. These tips could have saved me years of super sucky skin and half my face covered with fringe to cover another breakout. After years I have managed to get a routine down that my skin is finally happy with, but you'd have been a lifesaver 10-20 years ago. Still, I'm glad the knowledge is there now and so many people can benefit from your tips now. Back then no-one had a clue and there wasn't really anything for eczema or extreme dry/sensitive or compromised skin.

This is one of the reasons why I'm apprehensive on layering skin care products. I don't want my skin to get burned or whatever. I'm scared that it might not recover. That's just scary. Good thing that the products you used did help in soothing and healing your skin.

I was forced out in the sun for hours today with only two applications of sunscreen (long story, our kitten ran off and we spent all day hunting for him). When we finally found him and got home, my cheeks were flaming red and hot. I 7-skinned with your DIY face mist and followed it with Hyaluronic Acid and Rosehip Oil, now my skin feels almost normal again! Thank you so much for that recipe, I use it as a toner along with an alcohol, paraben, and fragrance free Asda toner, and as a mist during the day. Wonderful!

Thank you so much for this! I've been having the same skin issue for the past few months and i'm not exactly sure why because i've had oily skin all my life, but i've narrowed it down to hormones as it usually seems to happen before my period together with other period symptoms. I can't even wash my face with ONLY water without my skin feeling tight, dry, burning and red. I've been slapping on aloe vera gel as moisturiser and a face mask to soothe my skin as it's what i have on hand. I'll definitely look into some hyaluronic acid skincare stuff to boost the hydration levels of my skin.

I was searching UA-cam about solutions for over exfoliated skin and I came upon your vid. I applied a cream (rejuvinates, brightens, and peels my skin without irritation) that I have been using for so long ever since I lived in Asia. When I came to the US my skin changed. Everytime I use the cream it irritated my skin to the point of burning. But I kept using it because my skin was feeling rough and needed some exfoliation. However, the last time I used the cream my skin really turned red, feels like my face was going to break when I eat, smile, etc. Same as you mentioned. It left red, rough patches on the most sensitive part of my cheeks, around the nose and mouth. I stopped using the cream and have been using Ceravi, jojoba oil but to no avail. Then I saw your vid. Thank God! I purchased Physiogel and Hadalabo in Amazon right away. I used it last night and I already feel the difference. The patches are not red any more and have minimal roughness just using them overnight. Thank you for sharing this video. ❤

Omg... This happened to me with benzoyl peroxide. The recovery steps that you described was exact. I had those dark, rough, thickening of the skin too that i thought were burn marks/dead skin, and extreme redness. Took about 2-3 weeks for me to heal. The BP works on me but it comes with really harsh side effects too.

Hi Renee! I am so grateful to have seen this video. I follow you regularly but this particular video came as a life saver today. I have been experiencing a pretty significant skin reaction, I normally do not have sensitive skin ay all. At first I thought is was just seasonal allergies, but was getting no relief from over the counter meds. The area around my eyes and neck were becoming more and more raw and irritated, I remembered that I had started to try the ordinary eye serum with caffeine, This caused the skin around my eyes to get very dry and flaky but no redness so I tried the Drunk Elephants merula oil, I kept putting more and more thinking it would help the chaffed skin, It only got worse and thats when the itchy, red swelling started. I have been experiencing these symptoms for about 4 days now, I have stripped down my regimen to the bare minimum in hopes of not provoking my skin to get worse. Your video has really given me some great tips and products to try. Like you said my goal now is to heal and repair. I also wanted to ask you if you thought rosehip oil is good to help at this time? Thank you so much!!

Whenever I have skin troubles or skincare inspiration I watch your videos and they are honestly the most thoughtful and well articulated skincare videos on UA-cam. You are passionate but never over the top or sensationalist. You clearly do your research. I wonder, are you a dermatologist or specialist in skincare? Or are you a communications expert? I wouldn't be surprised at either because you are so articulate on the topic of skincare. Xx

what a timely video! I fell asleep with a clay mask on the other night, and didn't wake up for hours. my already-dry skin felt totally sunburnt, and I have been relying mostly on propolis and tears this week.
I know you've mentioned this throughout other videos, but I was wondering if you were planning to do a specific video on actives and wait times? the internet seems to be so conflicted on this issue, and I really respect that your perspective is a bit more sophisticated than many of the other voices on reddit. Thank you!

    • @gothamista
      @gothamista  8 років тому

+Alisha Chan Hi Alisha! I'm cringing at the idea of falling asleep with a clay mask on! I, myself, discovered that tears sting the most! I'm so flattered that you trust my opinion. In my videos, I tend to put very little stress on things that I don't find that important. I'm not super legalistic about certain things but I can definitely address my thoughts on this issue in a video soon or blog post. As you know, it can be complicated.

    • @alishayay1916

+Gothamista Thanks for replying! And yes, I've learned my lesson about attempting to do skincare while intoxicated...I've only been putting real effort into my routine in the last couple of months, and your channel and reddit have been my main sources of information. It's nice to hear a perspective that isn't so rigid like some of the ones on r/asianbeauty (any alcohol is bad, don't buy products in jars, anything with fragrance in it is evil, etc.). I'm still so impressionable as a newbie that I really appreciate hearing that wait times for actives may not be as big a deal as some people think. Excited to see the future of your channel! :D

Thank you for this. I am 68 and have had very sensitive cheeks for many many years. Even exercising would give me very flushed cheeks which would turn to being sensitive. Nowadays I never try more than 1 new skincare item at a time so I can tell if it is causing sensitivity. I used to try a whole new system and then if I broke out I couldn't tell which of the items it was.

Thank you for this video. I'm off to buy the Bioderma Matricium right now. I suffer from severe eczema which has finally cleared from my body but is hanging on to my face and eye area stubbornly. I've had some success using plain natural ingredients like homemade oil mixes as moisturizers, but even pure aloe vera gives me hives which progresses to eczema. Since cautiously starting a Korean beauty routine (with much help from you) I am seeing improvements in my skin's strength and quicker rebound from flares.
When I have a severe reaction (which follows the same progression you described in this video), I cleanse multiple times a day using Cetaphil cleanser, apply a homemade rooibos tea extract to soothe and reduce itching, inflammation, swelling and weeping, and then moisturize with CeraVe. I would also guiltily apply Aquaphor, but since you mentioned that you do too, I've ditched the guilt and embraced petroleum as a necessary occlusive in my individualized skincare routine. Since learning about k-beauty, I have added 3 layers of CosRx Galactomyces toner and 2 layers of Snail 96 Power Essence to that regime, with noticeable results.
Thank you for your professional manner, the thorough research you put into your videos, and all the work you do in this area. It's about more than beauty.

Physiogel is a lifesaver. I recently acquired really dry and sensitive skin which is very prone to those horrible redness flares you described followed by the swelling (like orange peel skin), itching, pain, and when the swelling subsides, the desquamation begins. I was re-applying Physiogel almost hourly because of my dry and hot working place. Thanks for the video, it is comforting to know that I am not alone in this battle!

Thank you Rene... I am not even up to using Retin A yet. Trying to work up to it with Retinol 0.05, and oh, my, last week, I put it on two nights in a row and dragged it down my neck and across my chest... A day later, red like a serious sunburn across my collar bone and up my neck and super dry irritated patches on my face... I had to run some errands that day and tried to hide the damage with clothing, and when I got home, nothing helped. Everything stung and burned, and I finally just held a cold wet washcloth on it for about 5 hours. When I had to cook dinner I looked in the bathroom cabinet and saw my big tube of Aquafor and a nice layer of that helped the irritation a lot. The next day it was calm enough for some hyuralonic acid. I am up to 4 days a week of retinol. But I will not put it on my neck or chest again. I need something much gentler for those areas. It's gonna take forever to get up to Retin A 0.05. .1 is years away for me.

If there are better products what do you recommend? I adore and enjoy your channel a lot! I recently moved next to the beach and my skin has since then become dry, bumpy, red, irritable, and stings a lot. I took you advice from this video and it has healed A LOT but still a little unstable. I spoke to some friends who grew up next to the ocean and understood that the ocean does that to a person's skin. It's just very hard to adjust for me because my skin has not agreed to any oil for more than 10 years and now the only thing it seems to agree with is oils. Right now if I put on more than 2 products on my skin, it stings very bad, becomes dry and leathery. Do you have any advice for me in the long-run?

hello gothamista!! ahh...i enjoy your channel a lot. however, i have some concerns i wish you could mention a bit.. As an adolescent growing, oily skin has come up and i do not want to use too many products on my skin); i also don't know what a toner and serum is and how exactly to use certain masks and chemical products without hurting sensitive skin or making it dry.... I'm just quite confused on what to do and seeing someone patient and kind as u, oh i just hope you could give a few tips!!!

I get hormonal breakouts consistently every month in the same zones and they are so painful. I've been looking to recreate my routine to address this and feel like so many resources talk about attacking the breakouts with harsh ingredients, but not enough about the healing process. This is very helpful thank you. Also the bio derma matricum is super hard to find in the UK and the US has it been discontinued? Is there a dupe?

The new Eucerin Micellar cleanser is also very mild and leave the skin fresh and clean. I've been using it for almost a month. I'm now using the Physiogel cream at night and it's so moisturised. It's still too greasy for daytime use in Thailand though. The weather here is super hot.

Please tell us exactly how you used them, for exemple: "In the morning I use bioderma then I wait 2hours and put the moisturizer, then etc...."
I've been in this hell of my skin being extremely damaged for now 1year and 2months!
It all started by overexfoliating my skin and it made my skin texture very rough and burning feeling; then I saw an esthetician who told me that I needed to exfoliate even more to get my skin back so she did a laser treatment on me. Of course my skin was even worse to the point where I developed eczema all over my face.
I started putting a lot of moisturizer for sensitive skin on my face and the eczema went away but I still had the horrible texture and my skin was very oily but dry at the same time.
Thats when I started seeing dermatologists to help me and they said I have too much oil production so they gave me very harsh and drying treatments. I told them I dont agree with their diagnostic and that its dehydration that makes my skin produce more oil and he said that hes the professional he knows better. So I did the treatment and of course my skin went crazy, it burned my cheeks and I have scars now because of the treatment that I stopped right away cause I realized that dermatologist are not helping, they are making my skin much worse!!
Now that I stopped all treatments my skin is much better but still extremely damaged with scars and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Thats why I would like to know exactly how to use your routine. That would be very helpfull ♥

Same boat with me pretty much...She said her steps in the video, I'm sure that as soon as 1 product dissolves into the skin to move onto the next...pat into skin rather than massage (maybe a very very gentle one will be fine) and if need be, gently wash your face using collidial oats soaked in distilled water then rinse (unless it's 100% organic oats, in that case just pat into skin. Hope you have found some relief💗

My skin has been extremely sensitised and reactive for about 5 weeks now. I have red welts in at my laughter lines and my chin and upper lip look as though there's spots but there's not and I keep getting the odd blemish on my red cheeks. I've been using the ordinary alpha arbutin, niacinamide and buffet. They're keeping my skin hydrated but the irritation isn't going anywhere. I've even slathered my face in raw honey! The last time this happened it was the alpha arbutin and buffet I used and that worked a treat. I was going to get some avene products but I'm wondering if the Egyptian magic cream would be the way to go. Any advice Renee? 💖 💖 💖 💖

Folks (including you) love that Hada Labo but I hate that it has parabens. 😞 Do products w/ parabens ever irritate your skin? Also what's the diff b/t the 2 Physiogel products? And lastly, thank you for this video! I totally get that weird thickened bumpy skin texture you mentioned when my skin gets irritated and no one has ever confirmed that it's an allergy/irritation. Sometimes it has happened from me just using 2 (seemingly hydrating or nourishing BUT new) sample products. I have so many samples of high end stuff and from road shops in Korea that I just wanna use them up sometimes and get overzealous! Then I pay for it. 😝 sorry for the long comment and all the q's! Thanks again!

+Patti Kim Hi! Yes, I wanted to do this video so people can recognize the typical symptoms and not freak out which is what I always did! Parabens have never irritated my skin, I'm not sensitive or allergic to them. The quantities in Hada Labo are so minute so even at it's most sensitive, I'm ok.
