River Hazmat Incident (Shelton CT)

At 9:49 p.m., Shelton Fire Department was dispatched to River Road for a reported chemical reaction with reported injury. As units were responding, dispatch noted that a reported chemical reaction possibility involving ammonia that had exploded and spilled. Dispatch also reported that one person who was injured due to exposures in the eyes. Car-6 was first on scene and reported that a latex and ammonia compound had reacted and spilled and requested Derby's hazmat and DEEP to the scene. As Derby arrived, crews went into investigating and meters the building. Crews also worked to contain the spill. One person was transported to an area hospital for eye injuries. Conditions of the person were unknown but were alert and responsive. DEEP is investigating the cause of the incident.
