Richie is so kewl. Years ago I didn't know who he was except from helix instruction videos on youtube. Any question I asked him, he would send a personal reply.

Thanks gentlemen; superb topics covered well. Since '17 on, loving the Helix + JTV-69s journey! Waiting for Yamaha to provide us a proper refresh of these remarkable products. Fingers crossed and thanks again for this great show!

Great discussion about modeling technology - I've been subbed to both of you guys for years now because of your extensive modeling knowledge. I've been using digital stuff since the very early 2000's. Everything I've done since then has been POD XTLive, Johnson J-Station (remember those?), Yamaha THR-10, Strymon Iridium, and now POD Express, which I really love.

What a great show. His take on the Variax is so true - and I think it's one of these secret weapons that a lot of pro-level session musicians use without telling people (particular for popstar backing gigs if there's a pit).

Such a fun podcast. Richie was the perfect musician to start this series. I've been on team Helix since 2017 after years of playing with my little red Pocket Pod. My HX Stomp/Powercab has been getting me through every gig for a few years now. Can't wait to see more of this series!

    That was great!
I’d prefer the 1:30 long podcast instead of the cut version. It might give the impression that you’re missing something.
Ritchie is the reason i went for the HX Stomp instead of the POD GO after watching his videos on routing, effects, connectivity, etc. He’s awesome!

Can't wait to see you guys in Nashville! You guys have breathed new life into Yes music and I love that Jon is doing this! Oh, and thanks for Helix tutorials. I have gotten great comments from fellow musicians and guitar players wanting to know what I was playing through not seeing the Marshall with the 2x12. Helix Floor!

On the Helix I have made a big effort to make the patches all the same level. Then use my guitar vol knobber to adjust. My Helix vol is always at 12 o'clock to my FRFR and the signal going to front of house is always the same. Love it! When the other guys say, "you're to loud" I just say "it is 'exactly' the same as it was yesterday."

I’m like a utility player and I also play a lot of 3 hour gigs. The helix is just so great in allowing me to play electric, acoustic, and bass. I’ve got a handful of presets I use to for electric dependent on the band. The matchstick, the new grammatico , the Fullerton, and the bassman(drip edge) are my go to’s.

Good show, Steve. BTW, the title has Recording as Recoding.
I saw a rig rundown with Doobie Bros. and John McFee had a Variax.
I think they don't need depth and presence, but high cut and low cut on the speakers.

Great show, def bring Richie back. Very timely for me as I’m about to transition from using my LT as a glorified effects pedal board (no amp modeling) to control my real amp, to using it w/amp modeling, direct, for my Rush tribute band.
I much prefer an “amp in a room” sound, hence my old setup, but like you said- as soon as someone puts a mic on it…
Great tips/advice throughout and will give Richie a subscribe for sure. I liked Richie even more when he mentioned Yes’ Talk album as his all-time favorite. Endless Dream from that album is on my desert island shortlist for sure!

Btw, I went in person to BOC concert last year at Sony Hall in NY!
Such a privilege to see this iconic band and Ritchie live!
    Extraordinary show!
Great choice btw to have Ritchie on your 1st episode! Very insightful and inspirational!

Thanks for this conversation. I've been considering an all in Helix style rig for a while. I'm a loooongtime pedals guy, so change is a little daunting.

  • @ZaryaMain
    @ZaryaMain Місяць тому

Starting on blank presets is def slower to get started, but in the long run I recommend not using Presets that come with the gear, or using downloaded ones etc. Grab an amp you like, and matched cab, and make THAT sound good as you can. Then expand out from there. What you learn on the way will make everything you do after that so much easier. It's also fun to experiment without having to buy new pedals every time you want to do something.

Still waiting for a Variax that can produce keys and strings 😉 Love my JTV-69 for acoustic and blended sounds, not the electrics. The electric simulations are only last minute solutions (or studio).

Capturing a DI is always a good idea. But it feels like if you don't have a keeper tone, maybe the song's not ready? But I also get that first takes can be the best, so be prepared.
