    Jordan led the league in total points in his rookie year. Yes a coach would allow Jordan take that many shots a game because Jordan was an exciting player who filled the stands. No NBA coach would limit MJ' minutes as he made the league far too much money due to his style of play. No coach back then wanted to give Jordan all of those minutes as a rookie, but they had no choice.

    • @Gabriel-sh3ms
      @Gabriel-sh3ms 9 місяців тому +3

      Okay lets say Rookie MJ played the same amount of minutes he played in 2022-23 AND kept the same usage he had in the rooke year to cater to your argument.
      First we got to take into account PACE. 1984-85 had more possessions than the 2022-23 season. in the 1985 season the average PACE was 102.1. The average PACE in 2023 was 99.1. So immediately MJs numbers are going down.
      Secondly, contrary to casual belifs, there were more shooting fouls called back then. 29.4 freethrows in 85 compared to 23.5 freethrows in 23. 33.1 FT rate in 85 compare to 26.6 FT rate in 23
      Thirdly, back then the league was more focused on offensive rebounding sending more men to crash on the offensive glass over getting back in transition consequently leading to the faster Pace. A 32.9 offensive rebound percentage in 85 to a 24 offensive rebound percentage in 23. Obviously, more offensive rebounds = more possessions. Raw numbers are 14.3 offensive rebounds per game in 85 to 10.4 offensive rebounds per game in 23
      FOurthly, players were sloppier with the ball back then resulting in way more turnovers. 17.3 turnovers per game in 85 to 14.1 per game in 23. More turnovers equals more transition opportunities equals easier buckets. This is also why u see many old players average 2 steals 3 steals per game but very rarely do you see over 2 nowadays.
      Here are the raw numbers of field goal attempts and freethrow attempts and turnvovers in 85 compared to 23.
      85 : 89.1 FGA per game and 29.4 FTA per game and 17.3 turnovers
      23 : 88.3 FGA per game and 23.5 FTA per game and 14.1 turnovers
      SO realistically, even IF Jordan was paying the same amount of minutes, having the same usage rate, all of this was allowed by his coach, the difference in pace, in freethrows being given, the difference in offensive rebounding and the difference in transition opportunities would likely result in Jordan having less FGA per game and less FTA per game and less easy baskets.
      But after all that, Id say he wouldnt average 28 but hed probably average something like 25-26 but his scoring definetely would not INCREASE

Jordan freaking proved that you don't need the three's to get buckets. from 1984 to 1989, jordan scoring avg point was 32.6 and he made 1 three point attempt per game. He didn't shoot more than 100 3's in 9 of the full 14 seasons that he played. In his first 5 seasons he shot only 287, and that's bekuz it wasn't as intricate to the game then, as it is now. For his kareer he shot 33%, just under today's league average of 35%. MJ would've done just fine in this Era, so please kill the noise that he kouldnt shoot 3's.

      You’re right, but there’s a difference between letting a player get off and letting a rookie get the usage he’ll need to LEAD THE LEAGUE in scoring. He’d have to play as many minutes as star player (36 and up) while putting up 20 plus shots. Personally, I don’t see a reality where he doesn’t score 24 + PPG. But leading the league is where you lose me

    • @SmittyWerbenJagermannJensen
      @SmittyWerbenJagermannJensen 9 місяців тому +1

      @@randomguyonyoutube1954 a rookie Zion without injury concerns had the potential to lead the league in scoring.
      In 04, Bron was averaging 39.5 PPG. That was in a time where rookies got no real looks at all. You're saying it's unrealistic for MJ to get at least 36 in a league where rookies have more free reign than in any other era? Paulo averaged 33.8 minutes this season. That's comparable to other star players in the league today. MJ would get star minutes.
      Either way, he doesn't need to be 36+ minutes on 22 shots per game in this league to lead the league in scoring. Sure, he had to back then; however, just like everyone keeps saying, the league is different today. Joel led the league today on 20 FG attempts and 34 minutes played per game. In fact, Luka is the only player in the top 10 do scoring to take 22 shots this past season.
      The lane is more open today and benefits MJ’s playstyle heavily. He’s very good at finishing around the rim and he drew a lot of fouls. Would he lead the league in scoring? Who knows, that really depends on how many 3s he takes.
      But to act like it isn't a possibility is just asinine. MJ, with the hype he had coming out of college would've been getting 04 Lebron minutes and basically unlimited touches, especially if his team is as bad as it was in the 80s.

      Again, it wouldn't even take the metrics LOW gave to lead the league in scoring. Getting at least 35 minutes and 20 shots as a generational rookie is very much doable. Lebron played almost 40 MPG with 19 FG attempts as a rookie; straight from high school.

    I get the they used to drop kick each other out the air, but defensive schemes are a lot better that they were in the 80s. A lot of it is built off of teams like the late 80s pistons and the 90s bulls and then expanded to involve other great defensive schemes used by great defences.
