    According to the IAAF International Technical Official rule book for Track and Field, as of 1922, the torso defined the finish of a runner, but the whole body must still cross the
    line to be considered a finish. So this has been a rule for the past 100+ yrs.

    People react to it as if it were a street race whereas the first foot across the line wins but in pro competition its the torso...Noah got it with the torso lean. I don't know if they teach it in other countries but it's a fundamental for American athletes.

    • @MisterMediocrity-uu9gx

    • @peterpereira3653
      @peterpereira3653 Місяць тому +10

      No need for chip technology in vests. As the camera operates so fast already, allowing photo finishes to be judged to the thousands of a second. The photo finish can also be magnified if needed. It is already accurate enough to determine not just who has actually placed first, but an actual dead heat. Which has happened in the past, when both athletes are given the same time. Even down to the thousands of a second.

    The official decision is made by a camera that is lined up on the inside part of the line, recording the slither at 10000 lines per second.
    Digital broadcast may have 60fps scanning from top to bottom. Sony recently announces a camera that can record 120fps while scanning all lines at the same time which will at least mean the error caused with traditional cameras where the top and bottom of the picture is 16/100ths of s second at 60fps and 32/100ths at 30fps. 1/100th on the finish line of 10pm elite men represents 11.5cm that is 4.5inches.
    You cannot make a good decision from a video that scans top to bottom. It seems they are using the new Sony camera in Paris because the images on the line is a closer match for the electronic timing picture.
    You can always trust the electronic timing image because it is recorded at very high accuracy and cannot be manipulated. The digital recording stamps each line and signs the data with a unique key for the camera

    Those who know track know that Noah one by a torso. Even his head crossed through the line first which makes the torso lean forward

    It's not the head or any limb. It's the first part of the torso that crosses.

    Now I'm an old guy. but I saw the Don Quarry/Hasley Crawford race and Hasley won by , if I remember 2 100th of a second by the foot placement, not body lounging, so you people make up your mind, and give a man what he deserves. Forget politics, this is sport. If Jamaica, cool; if US no problem.

    To me Kishane to Fred looked way closer than Noah to Kishane. Fred was on his azz..and poor Simbine! Dude has been the gatekeeper of the podium. You get past him, you medal.
