  • If you are a beginner CNC router owner and want to create an easy CNC router project that is not only a crowd-pleaser but also a potential money-maker, then in this video, we're going to show you the easiest project you can make. A single name. Carving personalized names appeals to everyone's love for their own name and can fetch you higher dollar value returns.
I will take you through the process of designing this simple CNC Router nameplate project using the Vectric design software (my recommended software of choice - see below). But don't worry if you use other design software like Carveco, Fusion 360, Carbide Create, or Easel - you can adapt these techniques to them as well.
The best part? This project is incredibly straightforward, easy to set up and execute, and you'll only need one CNC Router Bit - a 90° V bit. In this video, we'll be using the "Big Stiffy" 90° V bit from IDC Woodcraft, and you can easily get your hands on it by clicking the link below.
We'll also introduce you to the art of masking, a crucial step in protecting your material during the carving process. Masking makes it easy to paint the project after it is carved without worry of over-spray. My preferred masking is the Oramask brand, and you can find it by clicking the link below.

Good, I just received my starter set of bits this week, I thank you for being so out going and helpful. You ask me why I got into CNC well the answerer is I just started a laser engraving business this year and thought that a CNC would fit right right in. I needed to learn the laser programing so the CNC is very similar and I have always loved wood. From cabinet making to wood turning and I think you will be a good instructor will keep you how things go .

I'm glad to hear that you received your starter set of bits, and I appreciate your kind words. It sounds like you have a diverse background in woodworking, from cabinet making to wood turning, and the addition of CNC to your skills for your laser engraving business is an excellent choice. The knowledge you've gained from laser programming will indeed have some overlap with CNC programming, making the transition smoother.
Best of luck with your CNC and laser engraving endeavors, and I look forward to hearing how things progress for you.
      Happy holidays!

Great videos! You provide exceptionally well produced content good for folks of all levels. Sat down over weekend and set up my new starter CNC router. Testing out a few of the free design software options figuring if I go with Easel or Carveco to start. I finally have a few days off sitting down working up a few simple projects like these signs allowing me to get familiar with the new CNC and software options.
Thanks for tip on the G sender software! That answers one question I had in my head! I had UGS installed, will try out your recommendations!

@@IDCWoodcraft Thanks much! Running into minor issues getting first cut going on Easel. I home no issues with Easel Grmbl driver, but go to setup cut and machine soft stops acting like area of table towards center where wood is set at is acting like a previous UGS soft limit is holding machine from going more in plus Y and Plus X directions. It appears to match a previous UGS setting project home position I was playing around with and set in UGS earlier when checking its abilities. Looks like that project soft stops still in my machine memory causing Easel not to move x,y any further so I can zero projects. On this attempt was using easel with its driver. Should I first uninstall all gcode software and restart?
For record I have windows easel gcode drivers and the UGS drivers still on computer. Will remove all drivers and try easel by itself, but already can see where Carveco or Aspire software will be path will end up at very fast. Currently, only doing first test runs on machine. It goes back home no issues, just stops not alllowing any movements once I hit around 205 in y axis as I go to set up workpiece start point. Easel at that point acts like it “safes” the CNC controls, than they do not awake. It says idle upper left in easel but controls stop functioning including home. That position on table looks like a Y soft stop had put in earlier today from playing in UGS. Thinking I need to undo soft stops in UGS first than uninstall it and start easel over from scratch once UGS is uninstalled and any soft stops put in from UGS are showing removed.
My only goal currently is to do quick test run later in week will be adding a Makita router and order up some bits through you for using once I am setup in my shop area.
I am going to uninstall all gcode firmware and start fresh with one you mentioned. May install Demo version of something better than Easel also.
Just found issue that UGS added limits into initial gcode machine was preloading. Will reset those properly should be all set now.

    • @JeffTurner15678
      @JeffTurner15678 7 місяців тому

That did trick. Ran first test no issues, once I fixed the preliminary g code sent to machine. Than took second to realize needed to shut off a second tool path had active that was not allowing carve to start. Test was finally successful. Time now to add the Makita and order bits on Friday. Is there a gcode command can send that takes machine out of idle state manually?

Great video! A side note, I believe if you select the text icon with the dotted line around it for text in a box and you don’t have a box created then the software will use the size of your material as the box size. Thanks!

12:20 -- Not to be *that* safety guy, but the way you used the table saw is a great way to lose fingers. There are two problems, with the most serious one first: 1) When crosscutting a board with a miter gauge, you cannot run the board along the fence. If you introduce even the slightest angle the board will get pinched and you'll have *violent* kickback situation that will at best bruise the bajeezus out of your torso, at worst take your fingers right into the blade. Remedy: Clamp a block of wood of a known width to the fence well prior to the blade. Move the fence that distance further away from the blade. Use that clamped block to set the width of cut on your miter gauge, then moving it forward through the blade with nothing for it to pinch on.
    2) The blade is set too high...the blade height should be set so that the kerf barely comes up above the wood being cut.
Seriously, Garret, I gasped when I saw that table saw clip! Please be safe, I love your channel!

Hi Garrett, great video! I noticed that the top of the V bit was touching the bottom of the Muscle Chuck on your Longmill. Considering the "rule of thirds" for chucking the bit, does this cause any issues? Thanks! - Joe Porter

I think I discovered my problem. I had created text lines and then I drew a oblong box around it. I was trying to use a v-bit for all the vectors. When I did the text separate from the box then the vcarbe worked correctly. I then used a different bit for the box. Thanks for getting back to me.
