Just wanted to say I am a long time COD player who now finds myself wanting to play RL because your videos starting popping up on my UA-cam. Your gameplay and analytic live commentaries are so fun to watch and hella entertaining. Love your videos and I don’t even play rocket league😂
I would agree with the idea to keep mechanics training separate from the ranked grind. One reason is also, because you play like you train. If your training matches are often a bit trolly "I'm just practicing mechs", then this attitude can also creep into tournament settings and you find yourself down a game or two before you realise you need to start playing serious (Mr. "Reverse Sweep" Retals, ahem). But if you keep mechs training separate and ranked games are more about winning, it's easier to start with (and keep) that mentality in tournaments.
@@Plasma686 I'm talking about general attitude. "I'm just playing to improve my mechs" is quite different from simply playing mechy. Besides, Jack does troll more than a bit, going for flashy stuff, from what I've seen in his content.
I like the idea of your training, at your level it’s not about doing the mechanics, it’s about being consistent so you can pull them off when given the chance so free play for that is great obviously. What I really like is using ranked TO WIN , it’s easy to brush off and say “it’s just ranked” or “that won’t happen in RLCS” but training your WANT to WIN will keep you passionate and bring another level of killer instinct to your game.
Love ya Retals, consistent content for a year has doubled your subs. I think grind the mmr up as hard as u can and use freeplay for mechanics, the speed and reads against the best of the best will be most beneficial for growth and performance in next RLCS. I also wouldn't mind seeing like a weekly clip montage on the channel, just a 30 minute highlight reel of the week
That's a really good question on the improving mechanics thing. I think limit testing in 1s is good for improving mechanics, but the way I look at it is the amount of reps you get on each mechanic is so much lower than in a training pack or free play. Maybe going really in depth on a replay and look for specific aspects of your mechanics that maybe you want to improve, and then tailor training packs/training methods for improving those? Comparing your mechs to players with better mechs and see which specific parts of plays your mechanics diverge from theirs. So like look for similar situations in both replays and try to spot minor differences, then work specifically to fix those. If you have a coach I feel like part of their job should be to have a very intricate understanding of mechanics and deliver ways to improve them to the player. I think the main thing is to really engage with whichever method you choose. Have you looked into Andrew Hubermans podcasts on learning and how to learn faster? I got so many tips from those, so I really think if it's on you to tailor your own training regimen, I really recommend checking those out. Obviously, I'm not expert at this, but maybe it'll help who knows. Wishing you the best of luck!
This might seem stupid, but for your "limit testing" you could do the Psyonix tournaments. 1. You'll play low SSLs, so you'll get more space 2. Tourney MMR means nothing 3. You can keep grinding ranked for wins 4. Tourneys happen all day long The disadvantage is that you won't play pros.
I *really* struggle to practice mechanics and have fun. I've been playing since 2015 when the game released, and have been either the highest or second highest rank since launch. For those really OG's I was only a couple wins away from platinum back when that was the top 100. And then GC ever since as the game progressed and the kids got better. However I've never been mechanical. Practicing quickly makes me hate the game and feel like it's a chore/job. So what I've done is started getting more custom lobbies with friends together, which allows me to have fun going for stuff I'd normally never go for and practice mechanics in a fun environment. It's not nearly as effective as focused training, but 1 hour of rings/training packs makes me wanna uninstall so it's a tradeoff since I can't really "not care" in ranked.
i would respect the trash talk from that dood if he didn’t wait till he just finally beat you at the end to what a save. i can’t believe that happens at this level.
Would you say 1s are necessary to try and get high GC (gc3) and ssl? I usually hang around low gc2 but I just can’t get it the mood to grind 1s most of the time.
i never comment on videos but I'm around gc2 rn and i had a time where i was thinking the same thing when it comes to how to play 1s, with someone like you who plays in rlcs i think it would benefit you to train mechs in offline modes and treat 1s and 2s serious. I think from a confidence standpoint being at your peak in 1s and 2s helps you play better simply because of the confidence boost. if you start to feel good you'll begin playing well.
I like your idea of training more offline, but I also feel like it's hard to train some things without playing against a defender. You could always do more private matches? Jack might have some good advice, his whole team's full of 1s players so I'm sure they've talked about it too 😮
Honestly I feel like your mechanics are really good and you have very interesting mechanical plays but sometimes you're kinda not confident enough to take a mechanical shot idk But I definitely see the improvement, keep going
Trying to get #1 in one's I the best way. Most players that have had success in RLCS have usually been high on leader boards. Zen, AppJack, etc. It trains your brain to come up with creative ways to get into the net.
i think training and free play is really important but so is trying to do it in a real game, and eventually if u keep working on mechanics u will just be better and rank up. But if that takes too long I think the two accounts could also be a good option
1s for mechanics vs playing to win is an interesting question. Playing to win will absolutely teach you mechanics, and make you master them, it's just that the mechanics it will teach you might not be as helpful for RLCS. Playing for mech training might teach bad habits? I dunno, I feel like you have a decent separation between ranked and RLCS - I don't think any bad habits will seep over. What I would do is pick a mechy playstyle, and play with it to win (to be fair, I'm just a rando on the internet with no understanding of the game). Go for aerial plays and flashy ground game stuff. But you should still be trying to win, so don't commit to plays that are doomed, and your defensive play should absolutely be as solid as possible. No need to have flashy defensive plays. Just my 2 cents.
i play very simalar to you, i have strong positioning and speed but struggle with mechs. whenever i get on rocket league id rather play a game than train.
This is why rocket League is just terrible. It's the community. Some people have really low self-esteem or just huge egos and be toxic for literally no reason. Your best plan if you want to improve both foundation basics and more advanced techniques is to work your mechanics in more detail in free play, workshop maps and drills, but still don't care about winning in 1s or 2.s You should work on incorporating your improved mechs smoothly into gameplay against an opponent in 1s, use 2s to practice incorporating those with both a teammate and multiple opponents on the field, but only focus on winning when you're playing pro 3s/RLCS. The more levels of challenge you use to incorporate your solo work on basics into your gameplay, the more automatic and rock solid they'll be when you're trying your hardest to win, nervous, dealing with a sick teammate, playing against peak Zen, or all of the above at once.
