a republic by definition is "rule by law" , a democracy is "rule by majority", anything other than that is Charlies take on the subject , America has a blending of the two , as a child of the 60's and 70's we were taught in school we have a democratic republic, we all vote{the democratic side} for our elected leaders who propose the laws we all agree to abide to{the republic side} . they have really dumbed down education in this country to the point of almost total worthlessness.

Interesting thoughts. The United States is and has never been a Democratic Republic. Your school taught students erroneous history and government. It has always been a Constitutional Republic.
The only representatives that were elected by popular vote were members of the House of Representatives hence the name. Presidents were selected by electors and senators were selected by state governments to represent the individual states’ interest in Congress. That only changed with the 17th Amendment under a progressive president. Now foreign countries have more representation in the United States than the individual 50 states with their embassies that can petition the United States on their behalf. All of the American congress is now depended on promising their constituents all types of favorable treatment and not representing the actual States. Laws are not enforced on a citizen’s agreement to abide by some instead of others. Still there is a rule of law regardless of one’s feeling about the justness of a law.
I too, agree that the government educational system is making young citizens ignorant of their own country and the world.

@@jharn7514 you kinda missed a big point who wrote the constitution?, and how was it ratified, if the majority didn't agree on it, it wouldn't fly ,same as the laws proposed by who? the people who were sent as representative s by popular opinion thus a vote , i'm not saying the whole country hasn't been corrupted over time , that's what the civil war was all about - federal rights vs states rights , the feds won and it's been downhill after that , you act as though democracy is a bad thing , at it's worst we're talking lynch mob , at it's best everyone has a say on every issue , which is not feasible then or now , that's why we "vote" on our representatives , we are or were a democratic republic because we vote on our reps. a repbulic because we all agree to follow the laws passed by our reps.

@@robertwoods3750 I am well aware of who wrote the constitution. Many of the states’ representatives were not elected by a democratic votes in those states. You are right that the war between the United States doomed rights from individual states to a federal, nationalist dictate.
Democracies ARE a horrible thing. They always end up in tyranny. The United States has never been a democratic entity. Always a constitutional republic.
You continue to say we all “agree” to follow laws. Next time you encounter a cop, try telling them that you do not agree with that law because you didn’t vote of it. I may be wrong but I think you confuse representative government with a Republic. One does not make the other.

@@jharn7514 my dad was a cop for 40 years. 20 in the military , you've been watching too many episodes of "gunsmoke" or listening to charlie kirk too much, there's nothing wrong with a democracy it simply means supposedly we all have a say , or use too , things have changed a lot in that regard but that doesn't alter the fact that people had to agree on the laws and their represenatives , we don't do that by lot do we? , we live in a democratic republic no matter how much you don't like it , you continuely neglect how these politicians get into office because it doesn't suit your argument , constitutional simply describes the limits and scope of the politicians , and republic is a government by laws , you neglect how those laws came into being... ,

@@robertwoods3750 Not sure of what your father did in his life has anything to do with the conversation. I am also not sure how he could have been a cop for 40 years and an additional 20 years in the military. 60 years of his life is quite a lot to do those things. How old was he when he started; 4?
I don’t get your mental connection with the TV show of Gunsmoke or Charlie Kirk about democracy either. I do not neglect anything about the government and history of the United States. You continue to state that the United States is a democratic republic. That is fundamentally wrong and contrary to FACTS. Democracy IS horrible and has always led to tyranny. It is not mentioned in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution (which is the basis for the United States' government). I am not going to lecture you about history and politics as I now see you cannot learn and are set in your mindset. What was the last actual democracy? Now, name one more that is still around.
I am sorry that you have been taught things and history that are simply not true. I would suggest that you look up your high school government teacher and go to her house and slap the shit out of her for miss-educating you. She should not have been teaching.
