- Well they blew up the chicken man in Philly last night now they blew up his house too
Down on the boardwalk they're gettin' ready for a fight gonna see what them racket boys can do
Now there's trouble busin' in from outta state and the D.A. can't get no relief
Gonna be a rumble out on the promenade and the gamblin' commissions hangin' on by the skin of its teeth
Everything dies baby that's a fact
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back
Put your makeup on fix your hair up pretty and meet me tonight in Atlantic City
Well I got a job and tried to put my money away
But I got in too deep and I could not pay
So I drew what I had from the Central Trust
And I bought us two tickets on that Coast City bus
[ From: www.metrolyrics.com/atlantic-c... ]
Everything dies baby that's a fact
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back
Put your makeup on fix your hair up pretty and meet me tonight in Atlantic City
Now our luck may have died and our love may be cold but with you forever I'll stay
We're goin' out where the sands turnin' to gold so put on your stockin's cause the nights gettin' cold and maybe everything dies
That's a fact but maybe everything that dies someday comes back
Now I been lookin' for a job but it's hard to find
Down here it's just winners and losers and don't get caught on the wrong side of that line
Well I'm tired of comin' out on the losin' end
So honey last night I met this guy and I'm gonna do a little favor for him
Well I guess everything dies baby that's a fact
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back
Put your makeup on fix your hair up pretty and meet me tonight in Atlantic City
for those of you living on mars for the last 20 years. hero's are not forgotten and legends never die. levon helm was both.
Levon Helm died today April 19, 2012 give him a big thumbs up ..great voice
All the greats are getting up there in age, rock n roll heaven is getting crowded. someday I will be reunited with the best music makers ever and get to listen to their heavenly souls once again.
He wasn't in it for his health
RIP to a legend
4:19 ,you gotta minute?
It's hard for me to put into words what a wonderful song this is. The music of The Band (including original band members Rick Danko on guitar bass and vocals and Garth Hudson on accordion) led by Levon Helm at its very best. And then the beautiful lyrics of this original song by Bruce Springsteen. The combination of the melancholic and fragile voice of Levon Helm and the lyrics of this song (especially the chorus) touch me straight in the heart. It is so pure and healing at the same time. This is what music is made for. Thank you Levon Helm and The Band for all the beauty you have given me and the world.
" mabe
Amen!
When its time to sit out back, light up a cigar, and set a jack and coke to the side, its time to listen to Levon. We are poorer for the loss of him,but heaven must be grand now.
To me, Levon's voice is the epitome of Americana.
I knew Levon a bit. Worked for him and the Cate brothers a time or two. That is a true blessing in life - to meet a gentle and artistic soul. Levon is missed.
He was too good for this world mate. May he rest on peace.
i knew him as well, Melissa....and miss him terribly. My friend recently told me...YOU truly didn't have to be in the presence of Levon Helm for more than ten MINUTES...to feel as if he was HOLDING you. As i can remember...that was absolutely true. bless him.
I played this before my husband left this world,,in his ear ,,,at the hospital he loved it I believe he heard it before he took his last breath and again at his funeral to my Vietnam Army man Love you Bo Love Stephanie
Thats AWESOME! I'LL Bet he did hear it! SUPER Sweet💙
Same, when my best friend died. You can read more about him in the comments here: ua-cam.com/video/bx_jewfu_ms/v-deo.html

Levon up until the end was Levon. That's what I love and respect about the man. The awesome music was the bonus. He was a great guy.
This song will play as they lay me to rest.
That's what I said too lol.
You can't raise a Cain back up...
+Chris Keating i see what you did there
U hate me.
Went to a ramble in 07, changed my life, saw him perform this, then the next time I came back was unfortunately his funeral, then I saw amy perform this next ramble I came to. Words can't describe how amazing that family truely is.
Great pic of Levon and his dog. He truly seems happy!
'Hands down' best version!
I respectfully disagree this song was done very well, but some songs will always feel as if they belong to someone. this song will always belong to the Boss.
every time it think of Jersey/ Atlantic City Springsteen comes to mind.
you got that right
R.I.P. Levon
I'll teach my kids this song. Phenomenal Boss cover!
Beautiful!!!!!
The Boss himself has been known to cover this cover version in concert
He reaches my soul and I feel free thank you Mr Helm I’m forever grateful
to hear his voice just brings tears. of joy. not of rage. that was richard and bob.
Just an Arkansas farmboy!
Thanks for a lifetime of tunes! Lots of love from Sheridan. Rest easy!
He and his buddy Ronnie Hawkins moved up North in the 1950s
will always be remembered Levon, RIP
The Master from Turkey Scratch - simply THE BEST!

Always loved this song! R.I.P Levon Helm! ♥
Love from Arkansas Randy as well!
Best voice ever!! Levon had more talent than all the Beatles combined!
I think this is my favorite version of this song... =)
I listened to this song on the way to school every day since I was 6 I'm 13 and I KNEW it long before that LONG LIVE LEVON HELM!!!
I love that man.ive heard levon helm all my life but couldnt/didn't appreciate him,who/what he was and did is just incredible!!! He was an incredible musician and human being.it makes me incredibly sad that I never had the chance to meet him and just thank him for what he gave the world.i never met the man and I miss him.
Imagine levon hanging out up there with all the rest of our rock and roll heroes at the great gig in the sky!! You're right, heaven must be grand now!!
That intro on the mandolin gives me chills. Fantastic cover!
Brilliant Quentin! Levon was underrated as a drummer and vocalist. And he did BOTH at the same time! This is no small feat. Every time I listen to his interpretation of this (Boss's) song, it brings tears to my eyes. Yeah, I have no doubt Warren would have done the same for me.
Hardly a day goes by that I don't miss Levon and hardly a day goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars for those nights in The Barn...
live version done at the house in Woodstock is amazing.
What an amazing song. Heard this for the first time right after my Dad died. Those lyrics gave me chills...
Indiana&OhioRailway85 Bruce Springsteen wrote the song, not Levon
springstein wrote an amazing song, but levon mastered it.
Amen!
jbeaner419 I've always thought that Levon and the Band make it a completely different song. Both versions superb but not the same song. Ah, the mandolin intro, which must have been Levon. Garth Hudson on the accordian in the fade-out...exquisite! Something about the mandolin, and Levon's singing, and Garth's accordian riffs always make me smile. Thank you, Levon, and Rick Danko, and Garth, and Randy Ciarlante (sp?), and all the others who revived The Band and still others, like Barbara O'Brien, who keep the Rambles alive, and make the Barn a joyful place. And Amy Helm, Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams, and the rest of the Levon Helm Band.
Levon owned this.
I didn't like this song at all... until I heard this version. Springsteen's version pales in comparison.
Who knew the boss could write country!
Levon might have been poor through his life a time or two but his voice was always rich beyond imagination.
Unbelievably real music!
a great cover from a great all around musician... RIP
never liked springstein, always loved Levon RIP
THATS THE TRUTH!!!! LEVON!!!!!👍
Apparently Levon didn't agree with that first part....
Meanwhile Springsteen wrote the song, moron.
Bruce was a better writer than a singer
one of the great ones sorry hes gone glad we still have hi s music.
Love you Levon. Forever.

I loved his small acting rolls. Coal Miners Daughter as Loretta Lynn's father, The Right Stuff as Ripley, Chuck Yeagers right hand man. In Shooter as an old weapons expert .
Hope you come back some of this days
Great song, tells the story about the way things go down in that city.

The one and only. RIP

Love his version of the song👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Fantastic!
Levon was in México when he left The Band and Dylan, that's a time I remember oh so well!
Levon was a shooting star! REST EASY&ONE LOVE.
Shooting star is someone who rose fast and fell fast. He started being successful in 1958, and the cancer felled him in 2012. His star lingered.
this version is so real
THE BAND!!! Love Levon just as much as everybody else, but Rick and Garth and right here with my man!
Garth Hudson is a madman on the keyboards!!! What a phenomenal assembly of musicians the band were!! Robbie robertsons an asshole but man they belonged together on that stage.it was perfect.i never met levon helm but I m miss the hell outta him.figure that one out lol??
@@jeffwarren9791why was Robertson an arsehole?
