It's only comedy because the MC plays things up to their most ridiculous extents, both in edgy OPness and pathetic NPC ways (while still being utterly clueless about the fact that his allies AREN'T just playing make-believe with him). The funny part is that no amount of cringe will ever make him embarrassed, because everything makes the story in his head better.
The comedy is the seriousness, this is an absolute masterpiece maybe even the first comedy masterpiece as an anime to ever exist. Its not only due to the comedy though but without the comedy and the meta humor it would mybe be more like a low 9

Yeah, before i watched it i read people saying this isekai was the best or near and i thought ''wtf'' then i watched it and i loved it. It's better than Slime imo.
He doesn't actually move faster than perception or sound, after reading through baki manga and listening to beatrix's explanation as to why she can't see him move, is because there are certain tendencies for human mind to relax as soon as it figure out something obvious happening, like if a person is walking, as soon as he moves his back foot, our brain assumes it is just to move one step forward and relaxes because of the certainty, you can even check that for yourself, you can't focus on every millisecond of the motion of anyone's actions that are obvious without training, this is why shadow take a fake step forward, to fool beatrix's brain into relaxation that he is walking towards her, and as soon as she assumes that, he moves extremely fast, not speed of sound, just very fast, and because there is a 0.1 second gap between the relaxation and alert state of mind, we are unable to see what happened in that time frame, this is also a real thing, we are momentarily blind when we switch focus, try looking at one of you hand and then look at the other, you will not see the blur of things in between while moving the eyeballs, this is the momentary blindness we have while shifting focus, shadow is capable of moving behind you in this time frame, even professional fighters are able to switch their punching hand in this time frame and throw you off. sorry for such a long and nerdy explanation, I am a martial arts enthusiast so I can't help but talk about such amazing techniques that are used in anime on a very exaggerated manner.

The Eminence In Shadow is one of the few anime out there that managed to perfectly balance comedy with a serious story
