@@Emporkommling not sure about MBT but Farfa has a top 16 at UK nats. Also not sure I'd call people that have careers based around the game the same as people that play it once a week for a few hours and get most of their information from said content creators.
@@Basswire Yeah Farfa and MBT might not be YCS champions but they are better players than most of us randos just by the sheer amount of playtime they rack up doing what they do. What I like here is Josh's approach of setting a philosophy and applying it to literally everything.
@@Emporkommling that’s not true, Joshua’s input is (probably) more “accurate” because he can pinpoint what design decisions can make yugioh problematic. To be a pro you don’t really need that skill you just need to understand how to use certain designs to your advantage which isn’t something a developer should really care about.

Unrelated to the video itself, but I'd like to kindly advise to whoever made the thumbnail to have more caution in the future, because the outline on it has a red bar at the bottom. This could lead to people intinctively not clicking on the video, because they might confuse it for the red bar UA-cam puts on videos you've already watched.
Really looking forward to a tournament for this list. Should be a blast and it's very interesting thinking about what's still good and legal.

@@EMPCraft But as Josh says at the end of the list - there's space to iterate on this list further and remove more toxic stuff. Of course there will be a meta, but if it ends up being something like Edison where there isn't loads of toxic stuff then the mission has been achieved.
@@GranmargYGO i honestly like yugioh for beeing fast paced and deckbuilding heavy. If i would want to play a super slow and step dependent game MTG, Force of Will and Pokemon are just way better at that (Depending on Formats obviously).

@Jinja I don't think a fast paced format and this banlist are mutually exclusive. If decks could still combo off but there was no way to ftk/pseudo-FTK or make an unbreakable board then it's just a high amount of interactivity.

One card you forgot was Destiny Hero - Plasma. Would be quite powerful in this format as a floodgate and relinquished effect

Funny thing: even without circular, mathmech would probably still be very playable, if you really want to kill that deck you have to hit superfactorial or laplacian.
Without circular it isn't super combo head
It has to search superfact with alembertian so you're often using all your gas to get to superfact
The main problem is under this slower format final sigma being able to easily kill and magma being basically a blowout might be a problem

Getting 3 mathmech names in the GY without Circular is really hard, this deck sucks without it
Did you know mathmech was a deck before circular was released? with laplacian and superfactorial? Because it was. And no-fucking-body played it. (And you needed Disciple/Devotee, Link ones which are also banned, to do anything)
I've said from day one that banlists should be constructed to upset the Yugioh community. Personally, if I was Mr. Konami, I'd ban one fan favourite, beloved card and/or unlimit one unfun card for every terrible take I read on Twitter, as a form of collective punishment for the community.

Hah! My beautiful Weather Painters escape unscathed. When he was talking about 1 cards that do too much I was scared for The Weather Report.
They might honestly be insane in this slower format.
Weather Painters would go hard under this.
Ehhh. Weather Forecast does a ton, but in this format Kaijus would probably be in every deck since all other good generic removal has been banned. So Rainbow probably won't survive long enough to let any painters negate. Also even in this weakened format, the continuous spells will likely just not have enough impact.
I wish a new popular format could come from this and gets updated each time new cards are released. It would make the game so much fun.
Would be cool to see a list like this adopted consistently for Heart if the Underdog or something like that.
Well a similar project has been started called Kuchen format.
Basically an attempt to adapt the Pokémon tiering system into Yugioh
It is still in early developments and there community is still small, but it makes for a fun experience
@@frankwest5388 i play one in this format even in L4, my opponent start doing his 30 minutes combo and then i can't play anything for their negates
this format is no less toxic than standard format, it resolve the issue that some archetypes are not strong against meta and maybe ash blossom, but the game is still "play first and don't let the opponent play"
i hope they made layers for slow archetypes where the first player draw a card, but still there's no so much difference between first or second, but for now it's not different from modern Yu Gi Oh

I am also aware of the flaws of Kuchen and much of it comes just from how ygo works at a mechanical level.
And if you play L4 you know why they haven’t made even lower/slower layers yet. Even if I do agree they move way too slowly when it comes to adding new tiers

15:16 "What does Infernity do under this banlist?" Considering this is my all-time favorite deck, and pilot it since debut until the fall of Archfiend and Lavaval chain. Depending on which variation of the deck you're using can end like this;
A. Ends the board with Doom Dragon, Void Orger, Hundred-Eyes, and Archfiend with two Infernity Break and three Barrier.
B. 2-3 Lavalval Chain, Leviair, and an Archfiend with again two breaks and three barriers.
C. Hybrid with Doom Dragon, Void Orger, Archfiend, Leviair, or Lavalval Chain with again two breaks and three barriers.
As nuts as this list is, it does makes the case for a new format with a massive banlist. I mean, people have theorized about set rotation a lot, but what if Konami launched a format where the banlist is double the size of the original one? Ban floodgates, towers, generic combo cards, ftks and hit meta decks, called it extra limited and host tournaments on it, it could be fun.
Thank God that those people dont make the banlists...!

We definitely need something like this. Maybe not all the cards you put here, but at least 80/90% of them, I really want to play the game in a way similar as it was in the 2014. Geargia-hat format best

Sounds like Endymion or even Generaider with the new Vala to me :o sadly I can't really participate. Wishing for a master duel version of this, where maxx would be taken out as consideration (since it isn't banned in MD).
Branded is still gonna be interesting even without branded fusion, that deck still has like 20 other good fusion spells and stuff like cartesia.
The Synchro build is probably good now, too. They can also go into generic XYZ cards because they aren't hard Fusion locked anymore. Can be interesting.
Fusion Deployment + Cartesia seems really strong here.

Masquerade is a floodgate in the same way summon limit is a floodgate if you think about it, but instead of 2 summons it limits you to 13 activations
really wish we had a "cumulative inclusion" set of lists like duel links has. Being able to keep things like benten out of drytron lists and things like that sounds so helpful. I get that having a lot of ban lists can be confusing, but it's not like having a format of thousands of cards isn't already
If a non-engine is good enough to be limited, it's good enough to be banned. There is no reason to limit things like skill drain to 1 other than "if you break through once you're good", and that's not a good reason because the issue is breaking through in the first place. It just feels so bad to get sacked.

They killed Armor Master and Assault Dragon 😢 Blackwing’s archetypal win condition. They are both very beatable still they could be like 1 so no one can double up… but please I wanna play my blackwings 😢

I think deck identity is okay. Banning Chixiao for Swordsoul, Engage for Sky Striker and Nervall for Tri-Brigade feels too harsh.

It is an experiment, doesn't have to be fair. I also think he is trying to make a point that even with a huge banlist like that yugioh players will still find degenerate stuff to play and that it is not the best way to "fix" ygo although it can help
The proboem is those decks shit on basically anything else people could be doing if you leave them untouched
Youll ban all the degenerate shit and then people will complain that the format is just Sky striker, Tri-brigade and Swordsoul
Personally I would swap gravekeeper's trap and exchange of the spirit, since Vernusylph decks like to use it for the cycling effect and without exchange of the spirit it isn't a floodgate
I'll miss the Tenyi Monk but I have to admit that a one card enabler for Tenyi monsters makes them too splashable.

@@ttkrystal8329 As a deck it would be fine, but YGO doesn't forbid cards only for certain decks: such limitations are applied for all decks equally.
Releasing cards from the list cannot be decided on the count of a single deck, you have to look at what the card could do in any deck.
Monk of the Tenyi turns every Tenyi Spirit into an engine. Not only are the Tenyi Spirits free bodies on a clear field, Vishuda is an excellent boardbreaker that every deck could use simply by playing three Vishudas and a single Monk.
Is the Synchro access in addition to the non-Effect monster really that important?
@@xCorvus7x every deck can't use Tenyi because they wyrm lock you but ok. You don't understand. Nobody can play Tenyi AT ALL without monk. Just ban an engine ONLY used in Swordsoul? It's just a way to kill Swordsoul because this dick doesn't like the deck.
So far the decks I’ve thought of are: generaider, dogmatika branded, kashtira rank 7 (plus bodies are nice), spright melffy, orcust tear, psy-frame, dark magician (target banish), unchained, rank 4 spam with the spirits maybe utopia, exosister rank 4 spam, brave illegal knight (Amano-iwato needs to be banned), z-arc trap turbo (4 bodies are insane), tri-brigade Harpie/lyrilusc, amazement traptrix (R4), floo monarch, tear pile, crystal beasts, pendulum/dracoslayer, icejade stun, dragon maid (negate+pop), fish Xyz, mathmech, vernusylph.
Crystal Beasts are gonna be stupid with their field spell left untouched to supply a near-limitless string of spell/trap negates. IP into Goddess is also a common play for them and will be very difficult to deal with.
Psy frame really struggles without omega though. And almiraj helped a lot making lambda
Amano is way too strong
Psy-frame Omega is probably fine in a format where games last more than 3 turns on average. It's only relevant up until you have a monster. So many turns it would be a brick. You would have to play it in a deck without monsters as god intended.
After he made this list I went through it and actually looked at it and there are so many casual decks that I would honestly enjoy playing under this type of custom banlist🔥🔥🔥

..yeah, im glad this list would never happen. it kills or sigificantly hits every last deck ive even thought of playing that could be on a recent banlist, while providing even less options to handle the decks im up against, and I don't think the hits offered to the combo decks matter as much. we already saw when swordsoul couldn't make their level 8- they have multiples to reach for that aren't on this list.
funny hit to me is probably DNA surgery. also, what floodgates are Paleo's even running other than Anti-spell?
Is that ban list Adamancipator to glory? Haven't spotted Dragite on the list (might have missed him tho). But if he's not banned then turboing out Dragite with a water in grave for the Spell/Trap negate and Koaki Meiru Guardian for a monster negate should be GG against most decks with such a decreased power level.

I feel like one Empen and no Apex Avian could put Floo into a playable space without being an overly oppressive floodgate. Robina into Eglen without Empen just ends on Apex Avian, boring and unfun. Adding 1 Empen means you change the gameplan from Apex Avian into lose into Raiza control. Empen is so important for the deck to work at all, and looping Raiza is a much more interesting and dynamic gameplan than sitting on a 1-2 Apex all game. I’ve been playing Floo in master duel and the deck is a lot of fun when you don’t play a trap-heavy floodgate deck, I think it’s a little under appreciated because it’s easy to build it very low to the ground floodgate style. Substitute hand traps, utility spells, and search/draw spells and it’s honestly a fun and engaging deck!

Branded is still playable in this format. You just need a way to search Albaz and run more fusion spells to hard way into combo. 😛

Still, I think this is a great idea. Do I completely agree with the list? of course not (R.I.P. precious Macro Cosmos and Light Darkness Dragon), but we're gonna have to tread some tears to make this work. Overall though I love it. Hit Raigeki, Duster, Storm, Baron, Access Code, Apollusa, Dragoon, Pheonix Enforcer, Borrelsword, and Zues, kick em to the curb yesterday PLEASE.

Sprind is also banned and two other Spright cards are limited - Josh went about touching the decks differently based on how he thought made sense

My Utopia deck uses a floodgate that is missing from this list: *Number C65, King Overfiend.*
Bruh I'm playing true draco with my rocky boy iwato. Floodgates other than that rock aren't needed pop 2 and insane resource looping.

@@Henry-bg4oe I was just scanning the list for a potential Kali Yuga ban instead of the PK RUM (that breaks xyz card design just like Expulsion does with Puppet etc) so i can completely understand what they said about Gilgamesh. I dare say they wouldn't be tier 1 even with that list because the deck is too fair and Machinex checks it really well at 1.
I've always thought the worst thing about combo decks was the extenders in the extra deck.
Isn't bannishing Blue Slug a bit too punishing for Marincess ? I would maybe hit some cards like Triangle, Wave or Dive instead of Slug.
About Beyound the Pendulum : I understand it is a generic card and you don't want this kind of stuff but on the other side, a lot of pendulum decks work by destroying ressources to pen sum them later. You need a lot of ressources to play this kind of deck : monsters you summon and scales. Without ED disgusting cards, I think it is OK to open 2 zones and search a monster. Maybe the board breaking effect would be too much strong ?
Sera is strong, but without it, is Traptrix doing really well ?
This said, I would love to see a banlist like this one in the game. Since a couple of years, I wait for a crucifying banlist, just to reset the game. Not for coming back to the old times, but to slow down power creep needed to sell new cards and also to don't have to switch my deck every 3 month because the old one is now doing nothing. Maybe it is naive, but I would love to choose my deck only because the gameplay seems interesting and not because it is strong and it is needed to just play the game.
I’m 100% with you on Blue Slug. It’s kind of a key component of Marincess, and we’re talking about a deck that basically just puts up either a towers or a Heatsoul with a Wave, a Toad, or a Kragen. Other than that, it gets by on being able to play 20-something non-engine and OTK with Zealantis.
The deck is fine, imo.
Based off the video i dont remember everything banned but the top decks are like acient warriors, DDD if he didnt ban the link 2 and or their level ones, maldoche, earth machines, unironically normal summoning Alister, marincess, muytant, utopia, dark magician(souls &or IoC are banned?) Rexterm is banned?, ghoti is good even though I think it is ass, scareclaw(banned all link1)?, dragonmaid, unchained, generaider, evil eye, dogmatika, kragen, many more but those are good potential candidates.
Gilgamesh, Mechaba, Caliga, Blue Slug, Rexterm, both Scareclaw links and Sogmatika Alba Zoa are all banned but I thik some of your other suggestions are on the money

this is one of the best formats we have had in a while imo. Deck diversity is relatively high and alot of things feel very playable

It just seems like Konami stopped cleaning out the toxic cards one day and they were like we will get to it one day and then many years later they realize it’s too overwhelming to weed them out.
I would hate this list for only one reason. It actually kills earth machine due to the Goliath ban. I would kinda hate losing Regulus since my favorite interaction in the game would be gone, but 0 Goliath makes my favorite deck unplayable. Goliath doesn't even do much other than go into the graveyard and let us revive the Infinitrack XYZ monsters. If we got Goliath back, I would be 100% down to play this list
I think it would be cool if yu gi oh implemented choice restrictions(make it so cards aren't banned but can not be put in the same deck)

I fail to see how Labrynth and Kashtira aren't miles ahead of the rest under this. Labyrnth has Set-Up to recycle the Big Welcome and set traps from deck, and 3 Welcome will find you Lady regardless.
At such a lower power level Fenrir and Unicorn win games by themselves.
Set-up is a bad card and actually see 0 play in any Lab deck. 3 Welcome is still okay because Big Welcome is at 1.
@@matheusmmariz Setup is an incredible card in a control/slow format because it recycles 2 used Big Welcomes for anything in the deck.
Both Kashtira and Labrynth rely on floodgates in their current form. Even if they survive they won't be the same.

Seeing tri-heart and light-heart banned makes me so sad, sacareclaw is one of my favorite decks, but I guess I get it. Also Number 97: Dragublion??! if you are banning it because of the otk package then maybe utopia double needs to go as well.
