Hocam you are the best ever Turkish teacher I must say.
I have already learnt the topic (Time) from somewhere else. But there's always some confusion. I didn't get that properly. But after watching this lesson, the way you described, it's just incredible. Now there's no confusion..........
    Çok teşekkür ederim hocam..... 💖
    Başarılar 🎉🎊💯

Thanks that was a good lesson. You make it straight forward and memorable.
    However, I have 2 questions.
1 - how would I say in the morning/afternoon/night in a sentence with geçiyor, or var?
    Eg
it is quarter past two in the afternoon
It is ten to three in the morning
2 - I just don’t understand the suffixes used here and why they are different.
I think for ten past 9 - saat dokuzu on geçiyor - the meaning is the time is ten passing THE nine. Am I correct?
But for ten to nine, you say the suffix means “to”. Is this the same suffix as “I am going to the bathroom”?

Thank you for your questions, soruların için teşekkür ederim.
1- a) If the sentence is:
-When I saw him it was ten past eight.
Onu gördüğümde, saat sabah sekizi on geçiyordu.
-When I saw him it was ten to eight.
Onu gördüğümde, saat sabah sekize on vardı.
      As you see nothing changes
      b- If the sentence is:
-I saw him at ten past eight.
Onu sabah saat sekizi on geçe gördüm.
-I saw him at ten to eight.
Onu sabah saat sekize on kala gördüm.
So if you use the preposition "at" in the sentence then "geçiyor" becomes "geçe" and "var" becomes "kala".
In the first example the main verb is "geçiyordu" or "vardı" because the time is important there. But in the second sentence the main verb is "gördüm" because the action is important.
2- In general we use the accusative suffix if we are doing something about the particular object.
      For example:
      - I gave the pencil to him.
      - Ona kalemi verdim. (a particular pencil and I gave it)
But if I am not doing anything with the object, even it's a particular object we don't add accusative suffix. For example:
      - This pencil is new.
      - Bu kalem yeni. (Kalem in this sentence is a particular object but I am not doing anything with the object so I don't add the accusative suffix)
And about time, minutes are passing a specific hour then there must be accusative suffix.
If the time is ten past five. It is like ten minutes come together and are passing the hour five (specific hour) so "Saat beşi on geçiyor."
And If the time is ten to five. It is like ten minutes come together and approaching to the hour five. just like someone is (going) approaching to bathroom so " Saat beşe on var" (dative suffix -e).

Hocam, iki sorum var. 1. How do we read the digital time? 13:45 Saat on üç kırk beş? 2. Do we use geçiyor and var when we are using verbs?

    • @LearnTurkishvia
      @LearnTurkishvia  8 місяців тому +1

      Saat kaç? (13:45)
      Saat ikiye çeyrek var.
      Saat biri kırk beş geçiyor.
      I went to school at 13:45 .
Ben saat ikiye çeyrek kala okula gittim.
Ben saat biri kırk beş geçe okula gittim.

how to say 12: 30 in Turkish. on iki buçuk or yarim.

    • @LearnTurkishvia
      @LearnTurkishvia  2 роки тому +2

Both ok but usually people say "on iki buçuk" , it's rare to say "yarım".
