I’m so glad you posted this. We tried to get away without clipping wings and that had a tragic end for one of our loved hens, so I’m happy to see we can now stop it from ever happening again
Thanks for this. We had one girl who kept getting over the 6ft fence into next door’s garden! Luckily, they also have chickens so weren’t too bothered! Other chickens were getting into our part of the garden too! Your video made it simple and we have successfully clipped the culprits!
Thank you so much for this video! My chickens were flying out of their chickenrun, and we live along side a major highway! Now they are nice and safe in their chicken run and coop. Thank you again.
Our chooks keep flying over their fenced in pen. I'm so worried that my Greyhound will make mincemeat of them if they get on to the other side, and I inadvertently allow the dog into the back yard. I've been clipping wings on a variety of birds for years, but I found this info helpful because I wasn't sure how far up to clip. The hardest part was catching them. At least we only have four.
I have a chicken that has turned into quite the escape artist.. It has been scratching back the woodchips in the landscaping around my house and creating huge craters... It's terrible but also kind of funny... so I will be doing this very soon😉
Thanks for the video. We have a new group of hens that can fly up to the top of a 6 privacy fence AND clear a wire barrier 10" horizontal out from the top of the fence. Now, the trick is catching them... Might have to wait until they're asleep in the roost.
My two new hens are not affected at all by the clipped wings - meaning - they still fly over their 1.2m tall fence. Is it ok to cut the whole row of the primary feathers, not just the first half? I'm desperate at this stage and would welcome your advice. (But I do not want to raise a taller fence).
You could try putting some bird netting across the enclosure. Its cheap and effective, you may need to support it in the middle with something like a shelter or old tree trunk
Remarkable well some of them. Generally, they use their aerobatic skills for escaping predators, flying up to roost and sometimes, getting out of the pen you keep them in.
My question Is..., can a hen be hurt if she's used to flying & can't? I have been spending my days chasing escape chickens! They are curious & are everywhere they're not supposed to be, ... including the street & the neighbors! I just watched the short wing clipping video, & I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner!
SIMPLE AND SHORT. LOVE IT. HOW ALL VIDEOS SHOULD BE.

well done thankyou.
Chickens can fly?

Thank you :)
Is it effective
Thank you!

I'd rather they get a bit bummed out they can't fly anymore than get eaten by our neighbors dog.
Will this stop them from jumping a 4 foot fence or prevent them from jumping 32 inches to roost bar?
Probably
Do both sides or your chicken will be in the neighbors yard
Oh so chickens can fly...but we are just cutting their feathers huh...
I've been told if I clip the wings of female chickens then they dont lay eggs!?!?
Thank you!
