The Bishop: The bishops move diagonally around any space, and that's why he says he got you in every angle. The Rook: The Rook can only move horizontally or vertically in straight lines. That's why he says that beating you was straightforward. The Queen: The queen can move horizontally, vertically and diagonally around any spaces, and that makes a check symbol which I suppose that's why she say check when killing you.

My theory is that it takes place in a dream or a nightmare. But there is more.
