Thank you all so much for the support, I really appreciate every single one of you!
Until next time, peace!
Fun fact! Richard Dean Anderson thought Jack should have some kind of permanent (but minor) scar after everything he's been through on the show. So in this episode, when he's hit and a wound opens on his eyebrow, they decided that would be it. So from this point on, every episode, they would shave a little divot in Jack's eyebrow to represent that scar.
I have a scar like that and sometimes people ask why I shave my eyebrow that way...
"From: CAZASIMPSON
I have a question that’s been bugging me for a while. How did you get that scar across your eyebrow?
Caron
Richard Dean Anderson:
It’s part of what we established in the character. We have to maintain it because it will grow over, and believe me, it’s a pain in the butt to be walking around with this bareness there. It was one of those elements of movies and television that has always driven me crazy. Like MacGyver, for instance, if we showed him naked at any point, he would be nothing but one big scar, because he was always getting cut or ripped or shot or whatever, beat up, bruised, and yet by the end of the series, he didn’t have a mark on him. It was one of those things. So, I can’t remember the episode, but I got hit in the eye or slugged or something, and we established a big bandage and the whole thing, and I told Jan [Newman, make-up artist], you know, this would leave a mark. Let’s run with this. Let’s keep it in there as part of what defines O’Neill. And so that’s all it is. It’s just a character thing. In fact what I try to do is to suggest that any time O’Neill has to be beat up, that he always holds his left eye. He always takes the first shot, and every monster that he fights is right handed, so he takes the shot to the left eye. [laughing]
[Asked if the scar might have originated from a genuine injury from hockey, for example, he continued:]
Richard Dean Anderson:
No, I’ve got those on the top of my head, and one down here [indicating the bottom of his chin]. I’ve had that since I was a kid. I took the rear end of a skate blade right up through the bottom of my chin, and bled! Wylie and I were trying to count how many scars Daddy had at one point. I think it was 70 or something like that. She started wanting to see them all. She’s got two already. Like I say that with pride! [laughing] "
"Anderson's make-up is fairly standard. Faces tend to look flat on screen, so Newman adds extra shape by highlighting and shading cheeks and chin. I do use mascara on him, and eyeliner. Probably he'd hate anybody to know that," she laughs.
She also lightens around his deep-set eyes, which would otherwise be -quite shadowed - you wouldn't see the expression in his eyes.
The finishing touch is a nick in one eyebrow, giving the impression of a scar. It's based on a gash Newman created when Anderson's character was bashed during an adventure a couple of seasons ago. "He rather likes the battle-scar look," says Newman, "so 1 trim it up regularly." "
The “wait...what did you think tone” from Daniels comment about the trepanning is just perfect character and writing to me
“Well they didn’t call it the dark ages cos it was dark”
"Next time I get the urge to help someone, swiftly kick me"
"Next time Daniel gets the urge to help someone, shoot him"
Lol nice Jack 😂
Fun Fact: The heretical young villager Simon, who helps the team defeat the evil canon, has been seen on Stargate SG-1 before. He is played by David McNally, who also played Hanno, the aggrieved young villager who put Teal'c on trial for murder in the season 1 episode, Cor-Ai.
Stargate! Its a great big world,
with a great big swirl that you step inside to another world.
We're talking Stargate! Its a crazy trip!
You can go quite far and you don't need a car or even a ship.
There's Colonel O'Neill and Carter and Daniel and Teal'c.
Look out for that g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-goa'uld!
Haven't heard that in a long time. :D
The knowledge of the lyrics is cursed, once they are known, they cannot be un-known.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who sings that for the opening!
@@alexachipman I firmly believe most SG fans sing this at the start of every episode :P
@ Yeah! I’m not alone!
"Who are you who is so wise in the ways of science?"
This episode always gives me chills. Dense atmosphere. Maybe because of music and how grounded it is in relation to real life.
Trepanning was used to treat internal bleeding in the brain by creating a release for the pressure.
Dr. McCoy, Star Trek IV The Voyage Home: "My God man! Drilling holes in his head isn't the answer! Get out of my way so I can save this man's life!"
Chekov: Survived
Old lady: Grew a new kidney
Actually there are three different techniques that involve drilling holes in the head or taking out sections of the skull trepanning is a religious act like it was very clearly stated in the episodes lol now one of the other ones is called a lobotomy and I'm not sure what it's called that you're referring to but a lobotomy takes out a piece of the brain through the skull so it's somewhat the same as trepanning and it would be very similar to cutting holes in the skull of people with inflamed brains!
As Adriana says it was used to relieve pressure and it still is sometimes in situations where the pressure cannot be relieved any other way.
In case no one else answered in the last year or so, trepanning is still used in a way, though we can do it far more precisely than they could in the past. It is still basically drilling a hole in the head, and the primary function is to relieve pressure caused by fluid buildup in the skull. The people of the Andes mountains (Inca and their predecessors) would actually fill in the hole with gold (which is one of a handful of metals that doesn't usually trigger an immune response and is exceptionally useful for body internal purposes like that), and even in ancient times it didn't have a horrific success rate. A lot of illnesses that were interpreted as possession could be caused by things that could be fixed by trepanning, though you had to drill in the right place, which was something of a game of chance and luck.
That it succeeded at all without modern imagining technology is remarkable and a testament to the skill of ancient healers.

They really gave Hano a haircut and thought we wouldn't recognize him, didn't they. Lol
I especially love the music in this episode. It is very unique, with the choir and all, it doesn't appear in any other episode, but fits the atmosphere and theme in this one perfectly.

3:44 Director Peter DeLuise, directed this one & 56 others
He does like a cameo.
"Unas" is not a single "Alien". "Unas" are a race of Humanoids. who were used as host bodys for the Goa'uld before they used humans.
Why did they switch to humans again? Unas seem more robust.
@@Yggdrasil42 thats not entirely clear, but it seems they were simply not enough for everyone.
@@Yggdrasil42 Ra said he chose humans because they are easy to repair.
They're also pretty vein and some to regard humans as more aesthetically pleasing.
Humans were deemed a better host.
I'm glad to see you're enjoying this series. I remember watching you, as you started in on the first episode, kind of like, "...well, we'll see...I dunno..." Now, you're laughing at all the funny stuff, and getting jazzed at the kick-ass stuff. I encounter all kinds of people who have seen the movie, but there's something a lot of people don't know. Well, you remember how Jack was a rather stoic, inscrutable boss guy in the movie? Well, Richard Dean Anderson agreed to do the series if he were allowed to inject his sense of humor into Jack, which you've noticed. Really makes the series. I mention this because of your comment about Anderson really doing up the "comedy," so it's really natural for him, and why I find this the most entertaining sci-fi series I've ever seen. What's really neat is that it was on for many years, so stock up on popcorn!!! :)
I'm wondering how he is going to handle SG:A with the crossovers and references, I hope he watches them in tandem when it gets there. But that may slow things down and it already feels like the uploads are too slow, but that is probably because I like this show so much.
Bro SG-1 is the best thing ever!!! You are going to love it all
There are some great episodes in season 3, can't wait for you to react to an episode called Urgo which is directed by Peter Deluise and he gets to work directing his dad Dom Deluise who was a big comedic star back in the 70s and 80s who also worked with Burt Reynolds in the Cannonball movies. So for Peter he was thrilled when this story came up as he was an actor himself so knows how to get the best vision for the world he is presenting and he loved getting to spend time with his dad filming a very funny episode. Got a bit to go before you get there but you will love it, also it gives the characters a lighter side to play with instead of the heavy action and drama with the goua'ld. The character of Sgt Sila is actually the Stunt coordinator for the show and Richard Dean Anderson's Stunt double. You may see a couple of actors appear that are the actual directors for the specific episodes they shot, Peter is one along with Martin Wood who love to be in back of shot if it's required. Glad you are enjoying Stargate SG1, no episode is generic and the same boring world that other sci fi shows present. Farscape is the only other show that turns science fiction world upside down and it helps when doing alien creatures that they were designed from the Jim Henson Creature Workshop.
"the demon comes!" - Peter delouse. not sure if this is his first appearance on sg but it is cl0se to it.
I think he shows up once or twice again. As "himself."
I always enjoy the actor that played the Canon.
Did I mention before that it will keep getting better ?
Buckle up, son !!
Joel Goldman's soundtrack was top notch this episode. I really wish MGM would have released the entire soundtrack and themes of SG1. Joel makes some very memorable themes as the seasons continue.
Also the music in this episode feel like the early beginnings of stuff that comes in later seasons. Don't spoil guys if you know what I'm talking about. But it's nice to see how the music in Stargate grows along with the writing.
ua-cam.com/video/yYdXTzLz6x8/v-deo.html
It is something that I love about the Stargate franchise. Every series get darker with the stories as they go on.
The guy who said the demon comes is actually the director. Son of Dom deluise. The one villager is the same actor who played in the episode cor'ai as the accuser of Teal'c.
5:28 Jack just solicited a murder lol
With all the times their P-90's and sidearms have been taken away, you'd think they might start carrying some concealed weapons... maybe pocket derringers or something.
So, seeing as how the team is meant to be finding high-tech artifacts to help defend Earth from the go'a'uld, did they happen to salvage the canon's lighting-strike ring before departing?
I believe that _Stargate SG-1_ supplemental material mentions that the blast originated from a satellite weapon/flying platform.
What this episode establishes is that the Goa'uld has enslaves human population from Earth AFTER the stargate in Egypt was buried. They accessed Earth through the Stargate found in Antarctica.
Or maybe even Antarctica :D
@@raifthemad Jajaja. Sorry misspelled. I will edit it.
It just occurred to me -- if the Asgard were to appear here, they'd be taken for barbarians (Viking Thor) unless they built an avatar in the form of an *angel!!* A holographic "angel", unable to be touched by mortal hands, yet capable of great power (controlled from the ship in orbit.)
That would've been a fun tangent...
Aris Boch always reminds me of my old man.
Finally! I thought you'd never continue Stargate
Not sure why you are saying that... He does one every week. So you will see another one next Sunday.
@@BlueZeroZeroOne oh, you're right. Must have missed a couple
well, with that upload speed we need a younger and edgier sg1 team in 4 years or so
@@novakhin1642 or... One made of puppets?
Yo when you get to window of opportunity on season 4 could you release to UA-cam your full un edited reaction of that episode
Cause it's one of the most beloved episodes of the series
ONE of?
Im sure he cant cuz of copyright stuff. It would be taken down pretty quick unless he just shows only his own screen. If he shows the whole episode it would be gone quite fast.
@@joelnikula3545 but it isn't taken down from patreon?
If the trouble his him not paying MGM to proyect stargate then why he can upload them to patreon
It seems that here on chile no one has the right to proyect stargate since I can't see the show neither Amazon prime or Netflix on here but I could just pay for his patreon and watch the full episodes
There is an optoin for this. he releases only his reaction no video or audio from the episode and then you sink up your own and watch both at the same time.
@@darkhope97 Patreon doesnt have the same type of copyright enforcement that youtube has. They (youtube) scan videos for copyrighted content automatically and depending on the company who owns the copyrights you dont need to show much and you can have your video taken down. Theres a bunch of great videos on youtube that explain the copyright detection algorithm if you want to find out more. Of the top of my head recommend watching Tom Scotts video on copyright for starters.
You know, if they hadn't had Teal'c describe how his Apophis symbol was done in the episode with the Huge, Honkin' Bugs, the Mark of the Devil scene would have needed just a wee bit more of an explanation on how he didn't feel the pain.
"Big Dick Energy" is not that long of an explanation.
well.. they said it was made of solid gold poured into the skin.. being a metal and all, i would bet that gold would transfer the heat of the glowing hot steel quite effectively, effectively searing his damn skull... now.. how that is not painful.. that is quite the feat! one could assume that the nerves were damaged previously or something, however, ... i dont know enough anatomy to say whether that would make teal'c either lame in half his face or outright braindamaged.. it would however explain how he rarely has a great amount of facial expressions, atleast in early seasons, being that his facial nerves may have been destroyed.
interessting note.
@@eskreskao that would indeed be most likely
I don't understand why he didn't just pretend to scream. It was pretty obvious what they were about to do, Daniel at least should've realized and told Teal'c in Goa'uld or something
No matter how many times I see this episode, I still absolutely hate the Canon. You just want to punch him! 🤛 It’s funny you mentioned the “Cor-Ai” episode as the actor playing Simon in this was also the same guy putting Teal’c on trial in the previous episode. Also, it’s great hearing Chris Judge also voicing the Unas.👏
You didn’t recognize the actor playing Simon from the Qorai episode, did you? In the Qorai episode, he played the guy whose father Teal’c killed.
cant wait for the ashen episodes. my fav civilisation/plot in all SGC.
you sound like the creator of the show
@@Zero11s what brings you to this idea?
@@aigleincomments9532 the Ashen were his favorite
@@Zero11s the thing about the ashen is that this story is very well thought out and realistic, very socially critical and just now very relevant again. so of course a producer is proud of such a series, especially if he can get away with such a big f u.
'2010' is one of my favorite episodes!
: This episode is one of my favourite. I love how we actually learn about all those practises from the Middle ages. I don't want to start a debate here but I am personally an atheist and it pisses me off how people tend to forget all the f*cked up sh*t done in the name of God, EVEN in Christianism.
Teal'c mentions benevolence in relation to God, but, if you read the Bible - especially the Old Testament - you will see that God performs some pretty sadistic acts.
@@Ragitsu It shows the Christian bias of the writers. Someone like Teal'c would not conclude that God is good and compassionate from reading the bible. The good and loving God Christians talk about doesn't match the character in the bible. Teal'c would more likely see God as a Goa'uld who obviously lies about how good he is and he would see Satan as the good guy who turned against is evil master like he did.
@@Haimgard _Stargate SG-1_ happily used the non-Abrahamic religions.
Alot of messed up stuff done in the name of atheism too. Hitler was an atheist, and his hatred of religion is one of the things that drove him in his evil. The Soviet Union mandated state atheism and tried to suppress religion with force. Then going on today you have China with their forced re-education of Muslims to become secular atheists and the killing of Christians who practice their faith in the open.
@@serenaistheb.o.a.t Nice try. "Atheism" isn't a belief system; there's nothing to point towards. Atheism is simply lack of belief in a deity...that's all. Those people you mentioned had/have their own power agendas and whatever they said was merely a means to an end.
On the other hand, Christianity _is_ a belief system with *plenty* of violence in the mix.
P.S. As for the Nazis and atheism...

Next episode is my favourite. Can't wait for you to react to it.
I only started watching you because of Buffy. Love that you chose to watch Stargate, 2 of my Favorite shows.
also dude this is just the beginning, just you wait.
Trepanning was actually VERY popular especially in very olden times, just watch Sam O Nella's video about it! Though I don't think christians used it but I might be wrong about that.
Don't know who that is, just amused by the name because it sounds like a mashup of Sam and O'Neill
They actually got quite a bit wrong about "common practices" for trying witches. For one thing, the Catholic Church was more likely to prosecute people who accused someone of being a witch than the one being accused. The charge being heresy as the belief that people could gain power from demons meant believing that demons had that kind of godly power.
Some countries did have laws for prosecuting witches on a secular level, but the punishment was rarely burning at the stake. In fact, England simply treated accusations of witchcraft like normal crimes. You were accused of casting a spell on your neighbor's cow to dry out her milk? You were tried for theft. That sort of thing. The kind of of witch hunting practices depicted here were more a product of the early modern period after the Protestant Reformation.
My favorite episodes involve the Unas
Christopher Judge voiced the Unas in this episode
If there was an "SG-1 Awesome Mix" would it be polka tunes or country & western sung in Minnesota Scandihoovian accents?
Who caught Laura Mennell from Alphas?
This planet needs a Buffy
You should react Once upon a time. It's amazing show!
9:25 There's an X-Files episode about it...
btw, you will notice a lot in this that they recycle actors in this show cause they were low budget
David mcnally the guy who played simon is the same actor from the teal'c trial ep who was the son of the guy teal'c killed his dad fyi
I have the horrible power to instantly recognize actors/actresses immediately....Theres others in stargate but then also in stargate who are in other tv shows movies etc
Low budget or otherwise, the acting and writing are on-point.
Not one of my favorites but a solid episode
First time I saw this episode I actually suspected that the kanon was another goa'uld working the opposite side so the reveal at the end I was like "I was right! no wait what? oh yeah they can do that"
Next episode is really telling of how the Goa'uld view the Earthlings and the lengths they go to. It's pretty much taking the cold war soviet idea of making a mock-up of a US city to train KGB agents that were meant to operate in the US.
What are you talking about, shapeshifting?
9:47
we have seen many religiopns re,ated to earth just all the other human races are of older culturesd who worship old gods egyption, aincient greek and other old world religions
season 3 not my favorite season, but does have a couple of my favorite episodes coming up in a few weeks. 16 and 17 a couple nice episodes, but a weak season to me.
I am looking forward to episode 16 of the next season. Too bad that at this rate it will take like 6 months to get there.
I was not a fan of this episode because of the way it kind of sucks up to Christianity. Like they represent the historical realism of how awful christian medical practises and witch trials were, but they also have Teal'c talking about how he read the bible and the Christian god seems fundamentally good and not at all in line with the Goa'uld MO. Which is confirmed by the Goa'uld not being god, but being the devil instead. Like which version of the bible did Teal'c read? Did he miss the book where God and Satan torture a guy for several years over a bet?
Requiring the deaths of all the first-born children of a people sounds like a decree made by a Goa'uld.
Why doesn’t anyone mention the guy Simons gnarly teeth! Yuck!
