This is an amazing interview. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a more animated Gregg. Clearly he was in a great state of mind. We new he was a really intelligent and interesting guy. It really shows here. So thanks for sharing! I and many others miss his presence greatly. Thankfully he left a huge body of work when he passed.
I hate to admit he’s right about how he would try to perform wasted in the 70’s. I saw the ABB in Greensboro N.C. . Gregg was so smashed that he went face first on the organ keyboard and had to be removed from the stage. Dickie saved the show that night for certain. I’m just glad that Gregg was able to kick his addictions and enjoy his later life. He was one of the truly great vocalist his generation. In my humble opinion.
Saw 2 shows where Gregg was pass out blotto. Both in SF. One show the beer spilled into the B3 which caused sparks, smoke and RIP B3...basically one show was Betts with the band and a lot of local players, Garcia, Santana, Scaggs
I can`t think of any other legit entertainment industry icons that were up and down as many times as this guy. Usually when they get to the top and really crash down, like GA did in that nasty cocaine trafficking trial he got forced to be a part of, they never come back. Or their 'lifestyle' just kills them, and their is no comeback from dead. Still was sad though that his mother outlived both of her sons.
@@johnjaco5544totally moronic statement Jack off! Dickey Betts is an amazing guitarist, songwriter & musician! Derek Trucks is Butch’s nephew. Derek came on the scene 30 years later after all the music was already written. I hear ridiculous comments like Derek is the best slide player in the world when in actuality he wasn’t even the best slide player in the band. When Derek was is the Allman Brothers Band. Warren Haynes was the better slide guitar player.

Loving listening to this guy share his stories of the band.

@Charles Mama A only outlived Duane.
I wish Dickey had come back. They were never as exciting live without him. Derek is a great player but he has 5% of the charisma as Dickey.
Derek has 100% the talent of Betts.
@@johnjaco5544 now,now,..fight nice,...both are very talented in their own ways of playing guitar.....

@@johnjaco5544in what way? Derek doesn't sing at all and doesn't have the song writing skills or accomplishments of Dickey.
Greg writes and sings from a place my soul loves to hang out.
