Thank you for the kind words. I used this piece just 2 weeks ago for an audition. Got the paid work with it. Hope it can have the same longevity for your friend.
@@brenthartigan808 ran across this again and wanted to let you know that he got a 37.5/40(I got 38 on mine😉), another freind also did it at a different competition and received a 39/40
Thank you for your great performance, it helped me study for my own final solo for my class. I really do enjoy the life you give to it with the hand motions and it does indeed make it feel story-like. I hope I do as well as you on my final!
Ahh yes just what I need to get started on solo ensemble contest. This will help me a lot! You do a wonderful job making this song come alive and with so much energy!
Thank you John. it's a really great piece and i recommend it in any set. i just sang it at a Christmas performance and the audience loved it. break a leg!
This is great! I absolutely love this preformance of this song. I was looking for something for a music festival. And this song is great. and this is how im hoping it will sound when ive rehersed a while. Great job!
I absolutely love your performance :) I was going to try out a new song but I needed a reference to get me started, and luckily yours was the first I found to use as a reference. You really bring this piece to life.
Thank you for uploading! I am singing this piece as well, and I can use this for practice. You have a very nice voice and the hand gestures used made it feel more story-like! Very good performance!
Would you ever consider putting this on spotify because i love this song, and I can't seem to find it anywhere If you would it would be greatly appreciated
Being an Army Veteran, somehow I don't think the Pirates back then would sing such a "flowery" song. It would more likely be about gold, women and more gold and women with some rum tossed in for effect.
Hi, I thoroughly enjoyed this performance; well done! I'm doing a recital of sea songs early next year and I was looking for a different song of the same name, but I like this one much more. Can you tell me who wrote it please 'll try to find the sheet music. Well done again.
Hey Cody. Without knowing your voice it might be hard but I recommend vowel modification for that last note. An oh vowel can close things up. Think of it like "yo haw". Helps drop that jaw. Can be done for any of the yo ho's that are bothering you.
We used a vocal exercise called the cuperto. If you Google it you should find examples, but it is used to blend the head voice and chest voice to make higher notes easier and freer.
@@brenthartigan808 Does part of Cuperto involve your vowel choice on the high F? I noticed a more uh vowel compared to the C sung right before which I figure also allows you more space to work with.
@@CalebMaSmith I believe the vowel modification came out of necessity for me. It definitely made it more comfortable and free. The exercise typically uses an oo or ee when getting to the high notes.
@@brenthartigan808 I've been reading into Cuperto, my high school teacher didn't know what the heck it was. But it was odd because it was something I already kinda knew about but never realized it's importance. I loved your performance, and I appreciate you answering my odd questions on a six-year-old video.
Break a leg! This piece is only successful if you're having fun with it. Make sure you are telling the story, rather than just singing it. Each segment should have a different color. Be menacing, heroic, or cautionary. Again, just have fun!
Good freind of mine is doing this song for a contest. He uses this video to practice quite alot. Great performance even a decade later

Any tips on that last note and how I can I can do that opening good without it being o alot

Is the tempo slowed down It seemed like when I did this as a solo it was just a tad faster?
Could be. My accompanist and I tried several tempi over the times I performed it. I believe this version is the tempo from the page though.
+Brent Hartigan cool you did great
What did your vocal coach recommend for hitting that final high F? I can hit it myself but I don't like how it sounds at all.
