Webinar: Tobacco and Mental Health: Insights from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales

- On 10th October 2024, the Institute of Public Health (IPH) hosted a free webinar via Zoom on the topic of ‘Tobacco and Mental Health’ from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
This event brought together health professionals and policymakers from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales to discuss the different approaches being used to help inform mental health and tobacco research.
Attendees had the opportunity to hear presentations from leading experts on the policies, programmes, and training initiatives currently being implemented across these regions to support smoking cessation among those affected by mental health challenges. The webinar also featured a discussion on the key lessons learned and future priorities for collaborative efforts in tackling this important public health issue.
Speakers for this event included Martina Blake from HSE Tobacco Free Ireland Programme; Colette Rogers, Public Health Agency NI; Sheila Duffy, ASH Scotland and Claire Waters, Public Health Wales. Additionally, the event featured an introduction and closing remarks from Dr. Helen McAvoy, Institute of Public Health.
This event provided a valuable opportunity for professionals working in public health, mental health, and tobacco research to share knowledge and foster collaboration across Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK.
