    Its still coming along, I just havent had time to edit and put videos up. I use avs video editing software and my camera is a walmart jvc camcorder. Cheers

    The previous owner was told by the dealership that the thermostat was the culprit, the owner of the other Elantra that I mention in the videos was told the same thing, unfortunately I already tossed the old thermostat and cant verify but if two different dealers have said this than its probably accurate and a flaw they know about. Also I think the head warps first because its aluminum (softer metal) and a smaller chunk of material like you said, as opposed to the cast iron block, Cheers.

    Thanks. I've noticed that lighting is also good. The overall effect of a steady cam, good lighting and unhurried presentation helps in the learning. Most engine parts are dark and uninteresting. Video with commentary definitely is no contest with still pictures with text. Though each has its uses.

    Thx for the video. Overheating would more likely warp the cyl head before the engine block. the cyl head is a smaller chunk of metal. But the warp would more detectable on a larger piece. Perhaps somebody can correct me. It would be really good to know what actually happened from the owner of the car. Perhaps the clues are there somewhere in the opened parts. Whether it was a coolent leak or a failed thermostat that caused the overheating. I am glad you are showing us the simple tools first

    Why start eith the .00015" feeler gauge instead of the .004?
    If the former goes through, you're at least doubling the measurements.

    I need the tork of the bolts, and the sequence to tighten them. I have a Hyundai Tiburon 2006, and that info is nowhere to be seen. Please if someone knows send me a text.

    Very nice video, thank you. Just a little clarification, at 3:10, 2 thousandths or 4 thousands of an inch, not .002 thousandths of an inch. 0.0002 is 2 10-thousandths of an inch.

    I'm not replacing my head gasket, but I know the questions to ask if my mechanic trys to bluff me, or as a nice way of fitting into conversations 😉

    Trying to find torque specs on my Cam caps, do you now? just checked for bent valves. Parents broke the timing belt. Big thanks.

    hey, question concerning your method (would hope if you could answer my comment!), if in cleaning up the face of your head with the razor blade and you make a tiny little surface scratch, how bad is that?

    im not sure why he is calling this head junk . and is going to replace with a new head . i am a honda mec . and he said that the car has a bad head gasket why would you not just have the head surfaced and new gaskets .hell of lot cheaper than a new or reman head . so just wondering why you would do that . is there a crack or bad cam jornal. just asking because that is a lot of money you dont need to spend

      I'm guessing it is because the head is so badly warped (all cylinders tested out at 0 psi compression).

    What do you do if the block was warped? Does that mean get a new engine?

    • @StilettoSniper
      @StilettoSniper 4 роки тому

      That will probably be the most cost-effective option. Because otherwise, you are taking the engine out to take it to a machine shop to have the block head surface machined. Cheaper to just replace the engine, IMO.

    When you were measuring for warpage with the feeler gauge - what is the straight edge device that you were using and where can i get one of those? I didn't quite catch where you said you bought yours??

    • @StilettoSniper
      @StilettoSniper 4 роки тому

      It's called a machinist's straight edge. Check online, its easily available in different sizes.

    my car (Hyundai Accent) produce white smoke from exhaust while running (lesser amount of smoke,when i accelerate the pedal at high level) and engine oil drains out very quickly. Could you please tell me what the actual problem ?

    I have a 2001 Tiburon. Also a 2.0 Beta. Im doing a head swap and found your video because i have a broken non-return valve. The location for this valve is in the engine block. the head gasket connects it to the forward head bolt between cylinders 2 and 3. 0:15 . Have you encountered this? because there was no one installed on this beta you were working on

  • @brianmilligan1787
    @brianmilligan1787 Рік тому

    That's a cast iron block they do not warp the only thing that can is an alloy head but even that is a myth if the head is bolted down torqued it can't warp it can cracking bur when a head gasket goes it's normally caused because lacking water or low oil levels the most powerful to blow a head gasket is steam as steam was so powerful that's why we used to have steam engines and that's why steam will come out the exhaust

    i forgot to say the other reason would be past max warpage . it is not a very common on honda. but i dont work on to many hyundia it may be common for them. that would suck reman head cost a little bit more than a resurface

    • @myRatchets
      @myRatchets  8 років тому

      thats what happened it was past max warpage, a rebuild head off ebay was $350 shipped if I remember correctly. Valve job and resurfaced, not a bad deal.

    right at 00:34 seconds the two holes at the bottom of the screen between cyl 2 and 3...the hole to the right constains some kind of a oil return valve that in my engine ( hyundai tuburon 2001 2.0L . which is thesame as the one you are working on )was completely cooked and damaged..do you know whats called or the part number?

    • @myRatchets
      @myRatchets  10 років тому

      Sorry no idea, just remove it and take it to the Dealer. They will pull up an exploded view of the engine and get you the part or at least a part number. Than you can buy it online for a fraction of the cost :) GL

    • @thesinwagin
      @thesinwagin 7 років тому

      its called a non-return valve. its just a check valve. Part number is 2113523010

  • @myRatchets

    Question 1: Feeler Gauge (any parts store has them make sure they go as low as .0015 atleast. I strongly urge you not to reuse the head bolts, they were $36 for a set at autozone for me. You also really need to be careful when dealing with timing, you could damage the valves if you dont do this right! Check out my channel, I have a 3 series video guide on timing belt replacement for the same engine. GL

    How long does this take a mechanic to do? This looks like a 2 or 3 day job for a novice.

    • @StilettoSniper
      @StilettoSniper 4 роки тому +1

      Depends on the engine, of course, but a good mechanic ought to be able to complete the job in one workday or 6 to 8 hours, in my opinion.

    Probably would want to do that air compressor test before starting! If its a cracked block its not worth proceeding!
