- The Philippines climbed 19 places to land at the 32nd spot, out of 145 countries in the 2023 edition of Global Firepower’s Military Strength Ranking. Considered a middle power, with gains in military capability, the Philippines ranks 16th in Asia and 5th among the ASEAN 6.
The Philippines’ strongest measure is defense networks, outpacing its regional peers, where it places ninth, reflecting the extent of its bilateral military cooperation with treaty allies with the United States. The score for defense networks is measured by a country’s regional alliances, global defense partnerships, and regional defense diplomacy.
Meanwhile, its military capacity also improved by two places, ranking to 17th place. The country inched up its future resources score or the measurement for its projected distribution of future economic, military, and demographic resources.
The Philippines also exerts more influence in the region than expected given its available resources, as indicated by the country’s positive power gap score.
Regarding the arms trade, the institute reported that South Korea is the Philippines’ most significant arms trade partner with deals worth around $692 million. The US comes in second with $384 million, followed by Indonesia with $180 million, Australia with $16 million, and trading numbers with Japan with a total of $6 million.
The Asia Power Index also reported the Philippines posted gains in diplomatic influence, which refers to a country’s diplomatic network, multilateral power, and foreign policy thrust.
In addition, the countries hold high-level bilateral, and plurilateral defense diplomacy meetings, including the US, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
The increase in the Philippines’ overall military strength is due to its modernization efforts. The Armed Forces of the Philippines is currently undertaking a modernization program, with countries such as France, Israel, and India, offering to give new technology to the country.

@@lou2070 military budget is not measured by any conflict related or any dimension for military planning and goal only as usually doing by some nations, but it should be design more than that, a bussness related matter by future, as i said we should develope our own military research and weapons production to produce and sale domestically or export purposes, so that it is sustainable and more flexible to more room of expansion .

It's funny how this video is on my recommendation. I'm Canadian btw, Anyways the Philippines is not new to me in fact we've visited the country in 2018 and we absolutely loved it. It had been a blast. Lately the news about Taiwan the US and the Philippines is all over on the news lately here in Canada. I hope war can be avoided. Yeah I almost forgot, I've observed that Indonesians in the comment section always have bad things to say about your country. I just find their attitude very trashy. Just saying. We've also had the chance to visit Jakarta and there's not much difference with Manila. Indonesians are acting as if they're superior to the Philippines which I find absolutely 🤣.
I'm not siding with the Philippinos but Indonesians are acting so high and mighty when people from first world countries like Canada don't act like that.

What kind of a question is that? The Philippines need to protect itself. That’s why they have the Balikatan exercises. You cannot keep depending on other countries. First, the Philippines need to clean house- rid of graft and corruption in the government. Before it can truly implement and prosper its country. The citizens need to be educated and aware that in choosing a leader, each and every citizenry should learn to analyze the credibility and potential of a candidate. And not to be swayed by vote buying which is fraud. Countries that have prospered are mostly those whose government (its officials) and citizenry have been vigilant against any form of corruption. If the Philippines would like to be one then, it has to reform its ways, educate its citizens and transform into a better, stronger and stable society- economically, militarily.
