    WOW this is amazing! 😃 Seeing you standing next to the diorama really shows how impressive this model is. It's huge! The diorama really highlights how well you painted the Mandalorian, the metal, his clothing everything is spot on. Keep up the awesome work, if this is the quality of videos you make for 2021 I suspect this will be a very good year for you 😉

      👍🏻 Cool to see another awesome diorama person make a comment on another. I probably watched almost all of your videos and I don’t even build model railroads. My father did a few times. I still have one of his that was half done, no real scenery just the early parts like the basic land, track laid out and runs, maybe 4x6 feet. It was HO scale for a railroad roundhouse. I still have a bunch of his trains and cars and models still in the packaging, all vintage but really nice. He called it Polecat Creek. A polecat is a skunk or weasel LOL. My brother and I hope to one day try and complete it, we’ll probably use videos like yours and hers to get a clue how to make it look awesome.

    To hide posts I usually use thin metals rods mounted at the very bottom of the base. The thinner surface area makes them easier to camouflage. Some shrubbery or rocks works well too.

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks. I only had springy rods and was worried they’d bend over time. Next time I’ll go shopping before I need to mount something.

    • @pepleatherlab3872
      @pepleatherlab3872 4 роки тому

      @@KathyMillatt It is tricky because the thin metal rods require a bit of an inverted 'T' to give them stability when mounted into wood or foam. Dioramas can be tricky buggers. Thanks for the post.

    I haven’t seen any dioramas to do with the 422nd siege troopers, if your planning to do another diorama, possibly a 422nd one (but don’t worry if you don’t, I’m sure you got some brilliant ideas already planned out! I’ll be watching a lot more of this channel, and I fear my hours of the day will be.. well, stuck to this channel 😂

    outstanding job. To hide the main bike pole, I would connect the bike to the vertical wall with an horizontal, sturdy pin, reducing the distance between the bike and the wall at the minimum . very great job. I love it

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! The bike was heavy enough to bend the vertical rod so I suspect something from the side would need to be very strong.

    My dad used to make models, nice to watch someone else do it. Brings back memories from childhood. On the speeder bike stand, maybe a thin mirror? The old magicians trick, place it in front angled down so it reflect the floor. Might work as the floor and the wall are roughly the same colour. Just a thought.

    Hiya Kathy. I was surfing on youtube this morning (USA, est), and I came upon your Mandalorian diorama. Truly amazing work. I was blown away by the amount of time, effort and attention to detail you put into making sand and dust look like, well...sand and dust lol. • @cryofpaine

    These are so cool!
    For the speeder support, you could do a few things. The easiest would be a support that doesn't go straight down, but goes out to the background before going down, and then comes back. That way you can hide it behind a box (maybe even print a box as part of the support), or as a pipe that fits into the background (say a drain pipe that comes down to just above the ground, and the support becomes the bottom), or something like that. That way it doesn't look like you're trying to hide something. And when it comes back to the base, carve a channel for it to hide in and then cover that part of the support with sand (you would want a square mount for that so it lays flat).
    The other option would be using magnets to make it levitate, but that would be tricky to get the positioning just right. And I'm not sure how those levitating objects do it, but I think you might need a magnet above and below to get it to work. So you might put an awning or something like that to hide the top magnet.

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  2 роки тому +1

      The speeder bike is so heavy it bent the resin pole it is on so it would have to be substantial supports to hold it from the side.
      Having recently done magnets in a video, they are not as easy as everyone makes out. I’m not sure I’d want to try them on such a heavy bike.

    That's awesome! Quick pro-tip if I may give you one: For under vehicle dust, try grinding some brown chalk (like the ones in school) if you can find it, and apply that... It doesn't even need any adhesive medium, it just stays on by itself, and it is great for that dusty look.

    Wonderful model and diorama Kathy, Thank you so much for building it, I use to use either a metal rod to support my model builds and find a way of hiding it as much as possible from the main sight line or clear acrylic rod, used that on the Airfix (I think) kit of the Imperial Speeder Bike from Return of the Jedi, looking forward to your next video, take care, stay safe and Happy New Year to you and the family.

      @simonreynolds1518 4 роки тому

      @@KathyMillatt Hi Kathy, I forgot to say I always found I had to make sure there was as much support as possible within the model for either the metal or acrylic rod, sometimes it was easy with most kits being in two halves, it's been 25 years or so since I last sat down and built a kit, no amazing 3D printers back then, it would have been considered pretty sci fi to be able to print your own model kit at home, I assume it would be possible to print a strong internal support base for a rod to fit into the model if it was not a solid piece like The Mandalorian speeder, I'm sure your creative mind will have fun figuring it out, once again thank you for all your builds, I miss my train sets and making models so I do look forward to your videos and your dioramas, they are just so wonderful.

    There are sprayers that use a pressurized chamber to move material instead of hand power. I see them at garden centers all the time. For your tile grout as sand or surface jobs, they might be useful to move a Lot of product very quickly. I’ve also seen them in a variety of sizes, so- anyway, they might be no use to you, but as someone with pretty severe nerve damage, I just wanted to mention it. Getting into modeling like this is always pretty interesting to me, but I do have to weigh it against how much my body will let me do…

    For attaching the speeder bike, you could lean the jet pack next to it but then run some wire from a clothes hanger through the jet pack and into the speeder bike. That will make it stand without any sign of a support.
