My husband lost his job this January, after 25 years with the same company. They laid of 200 people that day with no indication anyone would lose their jobs. It was devastating. We're much older than you two, and finding a job is difficult, as most companies aren't interested in a man only 4 years away from retirement. It has been one of the, if not the biggest challenge of our lives so far. Thank you for sharing this honest take on such an emotionally difficult situation. I'm going to show it to my husband--maybe two old coots can do something outside of our best-laid-plans box and make it all right again.

We need the job we have now but it is already quite against our principles and creative freedom. It is quite difficult to balance. Like you, we also have a stationery business but it hasn't been so lucrative yet.
