Today we're talking about makeup regret. I recently made some beauty purchases that I would not make again and I wanted to share my thoughts with you. Most of these are not awful but rather disappointing for their price point so I offered 5 replacement items that I think are worth the money.

Good morning lovelies 💖 I hope you l had a restful weekend. Another honourable mention would be the La Mer moisturizer. It’s good, but not great and it’s price tag it should be phenomenal. Do you have any luxury beauty fails?

I have a few expensive regrets:
-Sisleya le Teint foundation: dry patches (I put moisturiser before and I tried hard to make it work)
Much better for normal to dry skin: Chantecaille Future skin foundation
-Sisley concealer: disaster for dry skin under eyes no matter what eye cream you use
Much better option: Chanel Sublimage concealer (brilliant for dry skin)
Funny fact: all Sisley powders are extremely good for dry skin.
Charlotte Tilbury setting spray: nothing bad happened but it was useless for me. I bought it because of the hype and I realised that my makeup stays in place all day without using a setting spray. My conclusion is if you wear a good quality makeup you don’t need to set it unless you have oily skin which is not my case.
My expectations from a mascara are: hold the curls (I use an eyelash curler), no transfer under eyes (I have watery eyes), no clumping, easy to remove and make me look like I have more lashes. I had mascaras from Chanel, Dior, Charlotte Tilbury and I tried mascara from Gucci, YSL, Too Faced and more. None of them worked for me. Finally I found 2 winners: Lancome Lash Idole and Hermes (the best). Chantecaille mascara is close: ticks all the boxes but I have a minimal transfer under eyes.
I don’t like RMS brand and I don’t understand the hype or maybe I do: they sent tones of products in PR and influencers made the brand popular. The products look very cheap, the blushes are very shiny with strong/neon colours and the prices are very high (in Australia) for what you get. But people are different and what is cheap looking and tacky for me can be great for others.
My skin is very sensitive and prone to breakouts. I had many bad experiences (with Sisley, Dior, Chanel, Guerlain, Sunday Riley, Augustinus Bader to name a few) before I found the products that work best for me. Fortunately most of the time I asked for samples or I got samples when I bought something else.

Hi Allison , I must say it’s sad when we buy makeup and it doesn’t serve us … but because of you I skipped on the Chanel mascara in lilac , so you see on the positive side you saved others! Can you do a tutorial on that beautiful eye makeup you are wearing on this video! It’s divine! 💄💰

💄💰Ughhhh! The regrets… I recently purchased a Chanel lipstick that looked great when I tried it on at the counter but when I applied it at home I swear it was a different color 😂😂

Always, always take a swatch out into natural light! Artificial light especially in stores makes things look more cool toned so blues and greens look more vibrant and it terribly alters the undertones of any nudes, pinks, oranges and reds

Allison first I want to say I really enjoy your channel. Unfortunately when your a person who loves makeup and enjoy trying the newest items, we get many regrets with our purchases. I have so many items used once; but I still continue to buy it’s fun! 💄

And now to my make up regrets: Suqqu Liquid Eyeshadow, LE did not want to stay put. Tom Ford Blush from his regular line. Absolutely not worth the money. Shade is nothing special and the finish either. These were buys from December 2023. This year is a no buy year and therefore NO regrets at all as I only replace products and I was lucky so far 🧸
Good for you 👏🏼 Thanks for sharing that about the Suqqu eyeshadow. I have a Tom Ford blush but I can’t remember the last time I wore it. The TF bronzer however, is spectacular.
Rose inc blushed for me - couldn’t use them. Sisley super expensive lipstick I bought in Duty free which I loved when I swatched turned out to be super bright for my taste (will still use it on vacation - I like the formula). And the biggest flop for me was Chanel blush with the snowflake - I couldn’t get any colour at all out of it. Thankfully they reimbursed me.
The new blush formula from Chanel is not spectacular, sadly. I find them to be dry, hard and difficult to get colour payoff from.
I have hardly bought anything 😅so no regrets 😂 honestly every time I'm interested in something... Once I just look closer I either own the same thing already because nothing is new or innovative and I don't want to own the same old thing 5 times over or I don't see myself using it. But I do want to check out some very specific Chanel and Dior lip shades in store. No idea if they'll have them but there is no point blind buying lip products...I want to make sure I like the shades. I basically want a daily easy to use warm peachy and a more cool pinky lipstick. Something that looks good no matter the occasion and works a minimal make up too
That is such a good idea to have the colours in mind already and then go try them on in store. I hope you find the shades you want 💄
Loving this eye look! As for makeup regrets - mine would be the Tom Ford Incandescent powder duo. It’s a bit darker than when I swatched it at the counter and I haven’t used it enough to justify the price 💰🥺
Ugh that sucks 😫 I’m so sorry that happened. I swear something happens between the counter and home when it comes to lighting.

That’s ok. Luckily there are many other great products out there.
💄💰 skincare and haircare products are likely the worst for me. I should know better by now and stick to what I know works. But then somehing new comes out and I get all excited just to find out that a) the product isn’t good for my skin type (most new shampoos and moisturisers I try) or b) I’m over optimistic about my willingness to add stuff to my routine (like all the gorgeous face masks I keep buying).
Hair care has been a good one for me too. There are a shocking amount of hair products on the market that are worse than water when it comes to dealing with other frizz and curly hair.

I’m feeling your pain! It’s disappointing when products don’t live up to our expectations. I had a hunch that Chanel lilac mascara was going to be a regret. Oh , i LOVED those guerlain blushes. I got the light coral and the nude fonce ( which is a pinky mauve on me and I am arouns b20). I love them so much. The finish is blurring and longlasting. I am eyeing the rose clair one even though I suspect it will bee too related to the one i have 🙈
I love them too! They’re so incredibly long wearing, I can’t get over how they stay in place all day.
The lilac mascara was a neat idea but executed badly, it's just way too close to white. For anyone looking for a proper purple mascara that also performs well, I can highly recommend the Shiseido Controlled Chaos Mascaraink in 03 Violet Vibe. It is simply amazing and very wearable.

I have been buying a lot of Victoria Beckham products lately and I think the quality is excellent for clean beauty. I just ordered the vast lash mascara to try. I usually use Chantecaille faux cils longest lash and that mascara lasts forever. There is so much product in the tube. The only Victoria Beckham product I didn’t like was the brow pencil because I needed a darker shade and she doesn’t carry it. I gave it to my daughter and she loves it. I will try the Dior blue!💄💰

💄💰My latest regret is the LE Skin Tint, which everyone is raving about. It looks way too obvious on my skin even though it is such light coverage and I only use 2-3 drops, I just can't get it to sit right on my very dry pigmented skin no matter how much prep I do. An old regret of mine was a Chantecaille eyeshadow duo - just not enough payoff and not worth the price.

Oh I am so glad I can help you out. At the very least, try a sample at first but it may give you a reaction like it did for me.
💰💄Rouge coco flash shade: 148 Lively. This shade doesn't stay true to colour. To keep it's colour from altering countless coats are needed then it's unable to sit down on the lips. Chanel Les 4 ombres Tweed: Tweed cuvre colour - one of the other colour palettes would have worked better for me. 💷 💵
That’s too bad. I like that route coco flash formula but the shades can be hit or miss and they’re rarely opaque.

A question about a regret I'd like to avoid: years ago I had a strong allergic reaction to a purple eye product, and I was told there was an ingredient in purple shades that sometimes caused these reactions. I've avoided buying purple/mauve/etc. ever since. Have you heard or seen such a thing?

@@AllisonChase I am still experimenting with ways to use it. I want to love it but it’s not giving me much back. I wear glasses so eye makeup gets lost behind them sometimes anyway and the light color is hard to see. Maybe I will put it on my brows for a concert look.

For me, Dior lilac lip balm. Did nothing for me. Prefer Guerlain lip balm in rosy. Rms blushes and bronzer. Threw out. Hated the cheap packaging. U look so pretty as always!😊🥰

My recent luxury regret is the Christian Dior Forever Bronze Glow. Very pretty packaging but not enough color pay off and it got hard pan very quickly.😢

Hi Alli. ever since you’ve mentioned that about the Dior Star filter, I am now very wary if that’s what caused the 2 breakouts on my chin and 1 on my cheek which is very unusual as I don’t breakout (probably only 1-2x a year😂) I like the finish and I don’t use it everyday as I try to rotate my products. I will try it again and see if that’s what caused it 😂
Hmm it might be! I’m glad that I brought that up to your attention. For me, the breakouts happen almost overnight so keep a lookout.

💸 I buy too much, too fast online. Sometimes I don't like it, I let myself be influenced too fast. We don't have a sephora or a big shop, so I depend on you tube and then buy online.
That’s completely understandable. When you don’t have a store you have to look online. I’ll be sure to keep you in mind whenever I do reviews so that you don’t end up wasting your money.
You are always honest with your reviews! So I trust you, although our skin tone and haircolor is very different, so I have to pay attention. Maybe my problem is I want to have it all 😂

I am probably going to be one of the few. I have a few. Ok. Here we go. The Chantecaille quads. Their colors are meh and their shimmer glitter shade , it so much fall out !! Ok everyone loves Suqqu , their formula is not that great for the price. The colors , I don’t think go well together for a look , Nope. By Terry. Their famous brightening CC serum. I have tried them over and NO. I did them all ways and the formula is Way too fussy. All of these for the price. 😢😢😢 I have more. But I don’t want to be a total hater. Ha ha
You’re absolutely not a total hater 😂 Don’t worry about it. I personally have tried many ByTerry products and never understood what the fuss was about. The only thing I like from there are their summertime face palettes but their skincare has been really meh for me.
