    Wren : one way to easily handle the spherical projection, is to use game engine like unity, create the flare animation (using timeline / animation), and use a 360 video exporter to composite back into AE.

    Hi Wren, fellow compositor here. Perhaps adding "warp zoom" to the flare will fix the octopus effect. Play around with the levels until the flare appears flat. Basically the same method one would use to remove the warped look from a fish eye lens.

    For the Flare in 360, you have to bend the flare before wrapping the whole video into a sphere, to do so use "Mettle Skybox Converter" plugin, choose input 2D, output equirectangular, add some tilt to move your flare where you want :) the flare will be bent in such way it will look perfectly fine into the final export :D

    regarding the 360 image lens flaring. you try a blank slate in 360 format?
    biggest issue I see would be matching the angular morphing that editing software uses to flatmat the image for editing purposes manually. My suggestion, research the algorithm that editing software uses to convert 360 imagery into a 2 dimensional image and you'll be one step closer to proper lens flares in 360 images. would imagine its not that much (if at all) different to the concept of texture mapping 3d objects with a single template image, in reverse.

      +wrenthereaper Nope. Solid solutions are an entirely different thing. Precipitates are when a solid reacts out of an existing solution, and thus is no longer actually part of the solution
