Omar is my all time favorite player. As a white sox fan tonight, I went to see the tigers play knowing Omar is first base coach. I showed up super early hoping to catch him during batting practice. A long rain delay prevented any BP and barley any players came out pregame let alone the coaching staff. It was so late so as soon as the tarp came off the game got going. I figured my chances at an autograph were no more knowing he probably wouldn't/couldn't come down the first base line during a live game. But just to show him my appreciation I Yelled "OMAR!" getting his attention and he gave me a smile and saw the indians Omar shirt I had on. He told me to wait for him. I couldn't believe it but in between the following inning he hustled over and made it a point to sign my ball. I believe there are few ball players who would go out of there way like this to make a fans night and Omar is one of them. I hope people watching this video and other Omar highlights know how great of a guy off the field this guy is too.
That's an awesome story, man! I enjoyed him playing on the M's back in the day. Being that's my home team. But I enjoyed him, Kenny, David and Sandy playing together on Cleveland too. They gave us M's fans hell mid 90's 😄😄😄 A year ago I finally got an Omar auto card for my collection. It's 2/5 made. He was definitely an awesome player!
Growing up in cleveland and watching him every game. We were so lucky to have him. I never saw anyone better. Some plays he made were almost mathematically impossible.
Keeping this man out of Cooperstown is one of the greatest injustices in baseball history. You can't call it a shrine to the greatest players, if you don'd include who is arguably the greatest defensive shortstop in baseball history. This man deserves to be in Cooperstown and anyone who says the opposite doesn't know about baseball.
Todo un Sr dentro y fuera del terreno.. todo un orgullo Venezonalo, entre otros claro.. una gran persona un héroe.. para mi el mejor campo corto de la historia.. excelente video...
He was such an exciting player to watch, I remember the Indian games of the ‘90’s, going to Gund Arena, Stadium packed and I would watch his every move, greatest short stop ever....
Omar is the greatest short stop ever. Hands down. You know the tribe gave Jim Thome a statue outside the gates of the stadium. I think that Omar, Kenny, and Sandy should have statues too. Tom Hamilton needs to be in the hall of fame too.
Omar Vizquel on one side of the bag, Carlos Baerga on the other.... talk about a gd beasty middle infield. those two made some of the sweetest plays I've ever seen
Joe Dick How the Hell is Ozzie better than Vizquel. Ozzie had 281 errors to Vizquels 183, while Vizquel playing 200 more games than Ozzie. Also Ripken??? Now that is just disrespect. Ripken only has two Gold Gloves.
A physical and mental GENIUS of baseball. No argument. Bar NONE! ❤️❤️ The ONLY THING that held him back, ( to stupid people!) is that he made it LOOK TOO EASY!
Good video. With the baseball HOF voting coming out today. Made me think about him. Would this be his first year of eligibility? Seems like a hall of famer to me.
It would be a great dissapointment if he's not inducted into the HOF. For those of us lucky enough to have watched this man play, we know what we're talking about. This man did not make occasional great plays, he made them every day, and he made everything look easy. Anyone who has ever played SS in their lfe, can attest to the fact that this man had amazing hands, and that some of the plays he made required a talent and a gift that defied the laws of baseball and physics itself. Hands down no doubt, the greatest defensive ss of all times.
There's an old Simpsons' episode where Bart tries to rip-off Milhouse by trading for a Carl Yastrzemski card with an Omar Vizquel one. At the time that episode was made Vizquel was a young no-name on a mediocre Mariners' team so it was a joke at his expense. Today, though, that joke makes little sense considering how Vizquel's career turned-out. He was an amazing ball-player!
Oooohhhh that explains it. I saw that episode, on some rerun for sure, and didn't get the joke of trading a first series Vizquel Mariners card which was worth much more than a main-team Yaz one.
Omar definitely, but they played in different conditions, which benefited Ozzie with with one more golden glove. Omar should have had 14 golden gloves according to stats, and 13 of them in a row.
The defense is common knowledge but this guy has more hits than ANY non HOF player (steroids free) in baseball history. Why he wasn't in years ago is a farce.
The greatest shortstop of all time. Deffensively, better than Ozzie, Ozzie got two more gold gloves only cuz Vizquel was not american, otherwise he woulve've got 15 easly and offensively just Dere Jeter was better in all time.

This guy is the best! I loved watching him for ten years here in Cleveland!

The greatest ever....
Eleven golden glove, a real master of the shortstop.
Todo un Sr dentro y fuera del terreno.. todo un orgullo Venezonalo, entre otros claro.. una gran persona un héroe.. para mi el mejor campo corto de la historia.. excelente video...
I became a baseball fan because of Omar Vizquel....Baseball God.
Same
Honestly the greatest of all time defensively
Best shortstop ever.
The new manager for Venezuela baseball team at WBC, VAMOS OMAR!!!! VAMOS VENEZUELA!!!!
He was such an exciting player to watch, I remember the Indian games of the ‘90’s, going to Gund Arena, Stadium packed and I would watch his every move, greatest short stop ever....
Soy Magallanero, pero, Omar Vizquel es el unico caraquista que admiro...!!! mis respetos
Not a single player in history that had those kind of skills !
Made the short stop position look so easy at a defensive standpoint. He deserved more than 11 gold gloves he was unreal
Omar is the greatest short stop ever. Hands down. You know the tribe gave Jim Thome a statue outside the gates of the stadium. I think that Omar, Kenny, and Sandy should have statues too. Tom Hamilton needs to be in the hall of fame too.
Bless you for that righteous comment

In an age of steroid use , Omar was a natural with out . Was a pleasure to see you play .
I own only one baseball t-shirt and his name is on it.
Cleveland has seen legends .. we have had some of the greatest ever do what they do.. I am so thankful for the Indians
Went with my dad to an Indians game to see Omar. Jim Thome hit his first Major League home run at that game.
Omar Vizquel on one side of the bag, Carlos Baerga on the other.... talk about a gd beasty middle infield. those two made some of the sweetest plays I've ever seen
hell, AND Roberto Alomar. all 3 were so flashy. I miss this team, and this team's dynasty era.
The best to ever play ball!
El mejor campo corto de las grandes ligas de todos los tiempo. The best of the best. VENEZUELA TE AMA.
My favourite player as a kid
You have to search omar to get here
Vizquel n Alomar what a blessed infield Cleveland had good lord
+EAchank Hands down the best double play combination in MLB history. That's not an exaggeration.
@@Sherpaful Agreed. You hit anywhere near 2nd base, it was destined for a glove.
I remember this ceremony. I was at this game.
The Greatest Defensive shorts stop of all time
... is Ozzie Smith... by a lot.
Ripken was better than Vizquel DEFENSIVELY too.
BAHAHAHAHA Ripken?!?!?! this guy is high
Joe Dick How the Hell is Ozzie better than Vizquel. Ozzie had 281 errors to Vizquels 183, while Vizquel playing 200 more games than Ozzie. Also Ripken??? Now that is just disrespect. Ripken only has two Gold Gloves.
Aaron Decker He Really is high😂
I hope he can become a MLB manager he just seems like he should be leading a team.
Gracias por subir ese homenaje que le hicieron en Cleveland, una leyenda en grandes ligas
my favorite all time player. wish the mariners kept him tho. mariners fan talking.
@ 4:38 Good to see Lofton and Nagy. What great memories......
love his shirt...
Named my cat Omar in 1995...
I was born and raised in C town, he was by far the best short stop I've ever seen. No offense Ozzie Smith, but Omar was much smoother.
The greatest of all!! BTW he deserve more golden gloves
nice touch, Hamilton mentioning Jimmy Dudley.
He looks like he can still play.
A physical and mental GENIUS of baseball. No argument. Bar NONE! ❤️❤️
The ONLY THING that held him back, ( to stupid people!) is that he made it LOOK TOO EASY!
The absolute pride of CLE.
There can only be ONE defensive GOAT
Que Orgullo
Indeed.
My all time favorite Indian!⚾
Omar and Smith. Brothers in arms.
Un grande entre los grandes
Good video. With the baseball HOF voting coming out today. Made me think about him. Would this be his first year of eligibility? Seems like a hall of famer to me.
He holds most defensive records in his position, so he should be in.
Excelente
He'll choose the Indians as his team, no doubt, when he gets inducted to the HOF

El mejor del mundo....!!!!
Little known fact, Omar Vizquel was a cashier at taco bell before he was a baseball player
Lewis AYYYY I GET IT
Lewis IVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS COMMENT
Lewis t-a-c-o-b-e double l
The cashiers name is Omar Visquel
Pasenle ese video a juan vené, pa' que tenga idea de quien es OMAR VIZQUEL,
highest fielding percentage at the position..better than Ozzie
We just not gunna talk about that shirt
Que dice Juan Vené sobre esto?
es caraquista
no one could say anything about his shirt though?
Ozzie Smith and Omar.
Why the hell did he say "muchas gracias" with an accent?
Because he is Venezuelan
LOL
who is better omar vizquel or ozzie smith?
Omar. Fielding is the same omar is a better hitter. Yet ozzy got 97 percent of the vote because he can do a flip...
porcentage fielding
vizquel=984%
smith=974%
in avg of fieldind OV is the best of the world
...and Omar played at home on grass, while Ozzie was on astro turf.
Omar definitely, but they played in different conditions, which benefited Ozzie with with one more golden glove. Omar should have had 14 golden gloves according to stats, and 13 of them in a row.

Taco Bell Saga?
Ok no one gets it
Nope...Arepa saga...he's from Venezuela, not Mexico
Chavezoid it's a reference to a song
Ozzie was better
Better than Ozzie Smith. Look at their percentages. Ozzie just flips to show off.
Your kids have stupid parents.

ozzie smith is 10000000000 better
RESPECT FOR VIZQUEL I GOT
OZZIE SMITH AS THE GOAT SS.
🎩🪄💫⚾️
ONLY PEOPLE WHOSE NAMES END OR START WITH A OR O THINK THAT OMAR WAS THE GREATEST SS. 🌮🫘
