Puma makes excellent knives. The blade design always appealed to me more than the Buck profile. Back in the 70's when all the other cowboys I was growing up with in East Texas decided to get Bucks I decided on the Puma and liked it much better. There's a significant price difference between the German production knives and the alternatives, btw.
I had the chance to get an old version unused via eBay, today. The old ones are better made, than the new ones. Slightly rounded bolsters and so on. Thanks for the nice review! 👍🏻 All the best from germany!
I have the Puma Earl, it doesn’t have the lanyard hole. I might bave bought it in the ‘70s, it was the premier rabbit knife. When open, there is no free play at all. On mine the letters on the blade is more ornate. I also have the Buck 110 and the Buck 120 which I purchased in 1976 for $26.

I just bought one of the new ones to take a look at the fit and finish, and to finally own a Puma! I also ordered a custom Buck 110 with ironwood grips and a 501 with waterbuffalo horn, both in s30v. Gotta love some traditionals!
I have a puma duke in mint condition never been used or sharpened . and the big brother puma game warden has been used and honed. I would like to know the value of the duke . thanks

Hey Zel, have you considered reviewing some of the D2 and CPM 154 traditional Buck knives from SKblades.com? Also, they have some modern folders with SV35VN blades. I'd love to see your take on them.
+PatRat67 I'll get a look but won't promise anything, I don't use traditional bucks often enough to justify purchasing them, but I'm thinking about setting up a guest blade program, to possibly get some knives to review that I don't own, like I've done with a few people and Todd KnT.

There is something not quite right about this Duke it is very roughly made in comparison to others I've seen including one I own it doesn't have the very tight tolerances and the finish is awful it is also missing the all important Rockwell Hardness Tester stamp. The are other issues including the grooves for the thumb press are very rough and there are not enough grooves it is also missing its ID number. I can assure you they are better made than any USA made knifes.
Duke, in german Herzog, is a nobility rank. In medieval Germany a Herzog was the leader of a Herzogtum (duchy) and every german tribe had a Herzog as leader
@@holmes1978 : The word Prince means in german either Prinz ( son of a Monarch) or the nobiliy rank Fürst, which is lower than a Herzog ( Duke), but higher than a Graf ( Count/ Earl). So the Prince knife is smaller than Duke knife, but larger than Earl knife.

I like the blade shape/profile better than the BUCK 110.
Pretty edge. Pretty blade. I wouldn't think jimping would have been on older pocket knives like this. Looks pretty ferocious. I like it

Those arent grind marks, they re abuse marks😒
