Honestly I’d find a way to put Richard Sharpe and the 95th in this game
Wargames Atlantic has that Sharpe-style British Riflemen box. You could easily Sludge-ify/Turnip-ify it into a grimdark monster hunting party.

It would be easy to do. Riflemen are a troop type and officers can have rifles. You could also put Flashman in.

The fact that you played it solo and finished in 45 mins says a lot about the speed and apparent simplicity of the rules on this occasion. It's still got me interested

This game seems to have everything Ive wanted in a skirmish game. Black powder setting, magic and supernatural monsters, warbands gaining experience, narrative play. Deffo picking this up, and in time maybe homebrew a scandinavian folklore campaign!
A quick tip that I learned playing Song of Drums and Shakos. Since facing doesn't matter, once a model has activated, turn him to face their starting table edge. You then know who's activated. At the end of the turn, pivot them back to face the opponent's edge.
Awesome that this game can fit into the same universe as Sludge. Would be an interesting campaign to combine the two into a single narrative.

My copy of the ruleset should arrive tomorrow. I'm almost always a solo player so I'm really hoping there's enough content for a worthwhile solo experience beyond a mere five scenarios. I'll pick up some Napoleonic minis regardless. Thanks for the Let's Play Ash. Looking forward to more on this game.

@@theurbanlegend9871 I agree but if you ever need any help. Joseph A. McCullough fan base is always putting out material, and it is nice to solo play through something that you didn't write.

Entertaining taste, I'm interested to see the solo adventure into the woods and the 2player games with Jay should be a hoot.
I wasn't fussed by the game until I saw your play through. I already have some games like this that I play but it looks like this one does it all. Looks like a load of fun. I'm going to have fun making up some characters for this........remember don't trust him he has goat legs.

Fantastic Ash. Thanks very much for this Let's Play I'll be watching it more than once. My rulebook has just been posted today and soon Molder and Schully will be taking to the mountains of Transylvania and the Carpathian Forest to fight the forces of evil and the retreating French.
I'm rewatching X-Files and this made me squeal with joy. The absurd 90s baggy trousers and blouses in the show are the best part, Napoleonic dress saves them from many fashion crimes.
Sleep schedule is shot from night shifts again so time to start a new series. Thanks again ash

Thanks for this, dude. Your production values are always great, and I loved the touch of the "smoke" to denote models having fired. Really helps give some cool ambience to the board.

Got some napoleonic minis painted for this but thought I’d use Bloody Miniatures for an ECW look. Table top minions said I should check out your channel for silver bayonet. Great first video 👍🏻

Perry-Miniatures have a wide selection of models from this era if anyone needs more places to look. Mostly where I have been browsing.
Just ordered this from my FLGS. Very much up my alley.
I might set my campaign in Louisiana prior to the Louisiana purchase 1803. I might add a pirate faction based on Jean Laffite, Miskatonic University, or the Esoteric Order of Dagon. Considering campaigns in South America, Egypt, India, and the Far East.
Nice - looks like it plays really well, I'm definitely getting hold of this and will be having some kitbashing fun with some Northstar cultists and Warlord Napoleonics in the near future!

First time here. Just curious. This is supposed to be the Napoleonic period, right? So why are all of the Spanish going around wearing 300-year old armor?
During the Napoleonic period there were experiments with musket resistant armor suits, but they didn’t look like armor from the Conquistadores.

Who's the young guy? Will Ash be back? This looks like another winner -- I have no Napoleonics but I just put together a bunch of American War of Independence figures for Sharp Practice. I'm thinking I'll just use those and change the setting to colonial America. On the other hand, I've wanted Wargames Atlantic's British riflemen so...(but I'm really trying hard to reduce the lead pile. Must. Resist)

I’m a bit confused by the wording of the melee rules. If you charge and attack a model that has not yet activated, you attack if the target survives, why would it not fight back? The wording looks like it could be interpreted that you end it’s activation after attacking. Does this mean they don,t get to activate later in the turn? Alternatively they get to attack back and then activate.

I mean the magic is optional… but this is a game of gothic horror so there’s going to be some supernatural stuff. If you’re looking for napoleonic skirmish there’s a ton of options

This is leaving me pretty cold. The game's selling point is supposedly monster hunting, but this game had a whopping one critter show up and it really didn't seem to be any kind of real threat to the player crews, leaving them free to beat on each other for very little benefit. Is this typical of scenarios for these rules or some kind of anomaly? Stargrave sees its random critters and/or unwanted attention pirates have far more impact on games IME, and the Q37 horror-in-space scenarios ratchet that up even more. Why's the game about crews of monster hunters got so few monsters in it by comparison?
It's not like "historical period X" supernatural hunter games are a new idea on the market. Old Glory's had their Gothic horror games (starting with Vampire Wars) for decades, as well as Four-Color Figures/Blue Moon Chaos in Carpathia/Cairo games and their spinoffs. I could use most of my figs for those easily enough - but why do I want to switch rule systems besides the "it's a McCullough game" argument?

I think it is a starter scenario. I am guessing a new warband will probably struggle against bigger monsters right off the bat.
