I choose my nib based on the paper I am writing on. For everyday writing, I tend to go for extra fine (or reverse write with a medium nib) since I have small handwriting and also most of the paper I need to write on are not fountain pen friendly. I have this habit of writing on the margins of books. For that I use Japanese Extra Fine nib pens (such as my Pilot Penmanship).
Thanks, very informative video. Thought I add my 2 pence to it. For a beginner to choose a nib, one must first decide the nib size based on his writing size (whether the letter sizes are large or small). If letter sizes are small Fine or Extra fine and if letter sizes are larger thenMedium or thicker/broader nib will suit. Again, nib sizes vary based on the manufacturer and/or region. For instance, Japanese nibs are thinner than European pen nibs. Indian and Chinese pen nibs depend on whether it is a generic nib like Jowo, Schmidt, etc., or manufactured in-house. Reputed online sellers provide writing samples of different nib sizes on their websites. Else it is better to try the nib personally before buying a pen to avoid disappointment.
sir, massive video. the different nibs very well explained. i am so glad that you did this video, it is going to be invaluable to many like me. please continue posting more such videos. thank you.
Hello Sir, thank you for the informative videos. I enjoy listening to you. Just wondering if you could suggest 1 pen or brand that one should buy above click , Kanwrite, beena etc.
I’m one of those who’ve transitioned from medium nibs to Fine nibs.. I’m beginning to like the feedback and ‘precision writing’ experience with Fine nibs while Medium nibs have started to feel too buttery smooth and boring ! I like Ambitious nibs more than Kanwrite nibs.. I’ve quite a few Vintage pens, but somehow I’m inking them less than I’d have liked.. Vintage Pilot Elite has been an exception though..
A good video for a beginner. Very nice. Appreciate the efforts taken sir. Keep it up. I prefer broad nibs. I generally don’t like fine or extra fine nibs, but sometimes when I need to write in a very small piece of paper, I use it. It’s my personal choice and others may differ. Thank you 🙏
both my fault, apologies. and thank you for pointing out. as i do not follow a written script, such inconsistencies have crept in. apologies again. will certainly try to be more conscious about the words that i choose, spontaneity has its pitfalls :(
