- A crash came to a fiery end in West Hollywood at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Roxbury Road Monday morning, and the driver of the Tesla fled the scene, leaving his passengers behind. According to the LAPD, one person died inside the burning car, and the driver was picked up by people following him and taken to a local hospital, where he is in critical condition. Battery fires don't give you much time to get out, very hard to put out
@@jessyhavron2548 Those two statements contradict each other. They do give you lots of time to get out, and they are hard to put out because they burn slowly and generally give people a lot of warning before a fire can spread to adjoining compartments. You would think that with all of the electric cars on the road in California that the fire department would know that you can't fight a lithium fire with water. It's foam, or nothing. Or a dump truck load of sand if you got it.
Water just makes it burn hotter
Not true. Water does not make it burn hotter! 😂
It's nuclear YIPPEE
The self sustaining fire is an exothermic chemical reaction set off by reaching a critical ignition temperature. This is usually triggered by battery shorting due to exposure to moisture,over-amp charging or discharging,or impact(collision).Once it begins, the only way to stop it is to cool it down to a sub-critical temperature. If it is not cooled down all the way to its core,it can reignite and burn until all of the chemical is consumed. This fire will continue to burn, even under a smothering pile of sand,as the lithium compound produces its own oxidizer.

Yes, it sucks that he is the kind of guy who drove at an insanely reckless speed along a 30mph zone which we can assume he was going at least 70mph++ and crashed into an object. Tesla's has a well built frame and doesn't easily crumbled so the speed required needed to be beyond reckless. The crappy part is that they also had friends following (reckless driving) them as well and the moment the tesla burst into flame. They basically took him but never bother to tried and help the occupants of the other vehicle. It was the pedestrians around that helped. Were these individuals aware of such reckless and past and present behavior...maybe because the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. When an EV burns, it tends to burn much more intensely. The fire is very difficult to stop (Look at the footage in this video. Even as the fire men are spraying water, the fire rages). The fire is much more resistant to being extinguished.
