REFUSED - New Noise LIVE I think this was just before TSOPTC was released, but they pull it off real well! I had to upload this as that crazy town version was pissing me off!
It isn't poorly synced A/V. The audio's from the 1998 Umea show that's on the re-release of Shape of Punk to Come. (The video is from 1997.) The audio from the actual performance is completely different - they hadn't yet recorded the ambient section in the middle, so Sandstrom (drummer) is just playing a kick beat. That's why the crowd looks apathetic during that section - there's nothing going on.
I was born in 1992, I wish I was a few years olders so I could hear theese guys live..... OH WAIT, I CAN BECAUSE THEY ARE DOING COMEBACK CONCERTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOHOOO
I love how this crowd has absolutely no idea about how legendary this song is. How can you look bored when any band plays a decent version of one of the best hardcore songs ever?
My favorite punk band of all time! That I never saw them live actually really bothers me on a spiritual level. We can't recreate the past, but we can revel in its sheer power to influence the present...and if you are a fan of anything audible, and you have never heard this song, let alone this album...then you are in for a sonic born again experience. So watch...and be baptized in fury.
This is recorded 1997 at a show called P3 Popstad in Umeå, Sweden. I believe the song was initially to be featured on a compilation called sXe as fuck. Funny thing is that in this edit of the video, the original part where there now are techno samples is originally David doing some drumming.
You're right, I think originally there were just some drum beats to fill in the space...the crowd shots during the synth part are probably not from that point in the show. I was going to sync up another live recording I have which I think may be from this concert...but some of the vocals didn't match....shows how tight and consistent they were at pulling off the same set though!
This video is incredibly well shot. Now this is how you shoot a fucking punk show. Dozens of different views, dynamic sweeping shots that give you a great overview of the whole band's image, the crowd is even is into it (though they are very lacking and most of them looked bored during close ups) even if the audio is from the 1998 performance, it doesn't matter. I can ignore syncing issues for the most part and this video is badass. If you've ever seen the actual 1997 performance, near the end kristofer steen's amp or something screws up and sounds bad. But with this overdub, it doesn't even matter, the audio is left intact. Sucks that gear messes up like that.
i love refused and hade the pleasure to see them live many times. i think everyone that likes refused should send email to them every day and beg them to come back!!!!!
Its crazy to think one of them (not sure which one) ended up being a classical music major in college. A lot of them went far in life, a few pretty brilliant people come from this little group here.
@keilan303 I don't think it's Refused's fault. WMG owns Epitaph which released TSOPTC. Probably the band being so high profile now made them go after their videos on youtube, it's not like they'd be asking the band or anything.
@uglyredhonda wow I never realised this, it's also pretty obvious when he says "motion" at 2:02, the mic is down near his side. Is the original video posted anywhere?
my favorite part is where some dude gets up to stage dive when the song momentarily picks up but then right as he's about to the music goes back to the quiet instrumental part and he's just like, "oh snap i guess i better just ump anyway!" haha i love it.
I gave this 6 stars not because this was probably one of the greatest bands to ever exist but also because of your description, Fuck Crazytown, and holy shit does this video destroy my face Kudos!
Sorry for my english... This public is to much calm ! This song is beautifull. Every time I heard it (since 8 years), it makes me playing my guitar. A good riff !
This was the first time New Noise was performed (and heard for the public). I guess that's why the crowd seems like that have no idea what's about to hit them.
@keilan303 Nah... that's just what they do for live stuff. It's the live sound, that's real footage from the show. They just pieced parts of the video together, not necessarily in sync with the the exact moment. They take all the better moves, all the better visual moments, and they put them together tover the soundtrack from the show.
It's fucking hardcore how they blast into the guitar at the beginning after the techno part..was there something wrong with denni's mike? or was he just not singing into it?
this is one of the only performances i've seen by them that wasn't a total mess. refused is one of my favorite bands, but if i had seen them live before hearing their studio material, i'd probably hate them.
@toalman. They did, yeah. It wasn't all that bad, if you like Refused, then watch it for sure. After this album came out they all got a bit 'yeah we're so good, we'll go on tour and never practice', with predictable results, but yeah. It was alright actually. There's a copy on youtube if you're interested.
I agree with you. it's so funny that the kids are sort of just standing there. shows a certain classic hardcore jock mentality. Henry rollins implied the same thing in the documovie American Hardcore. now it's the reverse- lotsa highschool jocks have taken to wearing eyeliner and growing their hair out. but now they're 'scene', they're 'cool'.
Refused had dozens of temporary and stand-in bass players who were never in the band (except Jon Brännström who joined them on guitar) and they were all in their teens I think.
The crowd were probably so tame because this was most likely the first time they had heard this, and I'm guessing it would've sounded like it was from another world to them and they had no idea how to react.
Possibly the best placed "Woo" of any punk/metal track :p
Blur - song 2 is pretty close although not punk or metal but it hits
@@christopher2327 Don't forget 4LYN - Whoo
It seems like it wouldn’t work but it’s so epic and badass lmaooo
#ICONIC
@@christopher2327 I heard they were still considered punk. They were like the precursor to emo before emo was a thing
The Stooges "Your pretty face is going to hell" had a run for its money
A band that were so ahead of their time. Freaking visionaries!
When I first heard this my heart was punched through my chest into the wall by the raw new noise :P
I can't believe how good this sounds for being uploaded in 2006.
2006 isn't stone age!
Refused is up there with Ric Flair in their "woo"s
love this comment
timestamp? Which one of ALL do you mean? :D
Lead singer has a fuckin awesome scream voice
GOOD GOD!!!! What a KILLER live sound! I’ve gotten re-obsessed with this band.
when those guitars kick in... holy hell, my god its a beautiful sound...

This is probably the best version of sound and video we will get to witness of New Noise. This video kicks ass, such an explosive band.
This is recorded 1997 at a show called P3 Popstad in Umeå, Sweden. I believe the song was initially to be featured on a compilation called sXe as fuck. Funny thing is that in this edit of the video, the original part where there now are techno samples is originally David doing some drumming.
the end in every version trails off from the new beat to psycho fit to thank you pete.

18 years ago we still had real music.

Damn... They're good!
this song is such a energetic that it feels so good to listen when you wake up early in the morning. it is my alarm sound.
Its crazy to think one of them (not sure which one) ended up being a classical music major in college. A lot of them went far in life, a few pretty brilliant people come from this little group here.
If I had to guess, without looking up the answer, it's David Sandstrom.
@@theaspiration I'd probably agree.
Essential of a posh hardcore genre some might say, but this could be a new shape of punk to come.
Can't believe this was FOREVER ago. They seemed decades ahead of everyone.
This gives me goosebumps... truely awesome.

Woah!!!! 4:00 was freaking Insane!!! I would Die to see this live!!!!
this song is pure energy!!!! great!!!!.... great refused
The new beat!!! ❤
@uglyredhonda wow I never realised this, it's also pretty obvious when he says "motion" at 2:02, the mic is down near his side. Is the original video posted anywhere?
OMG they sound live as good as the sound on the album! oO Didn't expect that! NICE

I gave this 6 stars not because this was probably one of the greatest bands to ever exist but also because of your description, Fuck Crazytown, and holy shit does this video destroy my face Kudos!
Never gets old.
That damn energy is palpable.
Sorry for my english...
This public is to much calm ! This song is beautifull. Every time I heard it (since 8 years), it makes me playing my guitar. A good riff !
@salvadordalionfire it says in the description that this footage is from before the song was released... one of them would have heard the song before
what is the name of the guitarist who also sings?
I hear not so long as it refused so I'd like to know it!
aba is the absolute best song, I find!

@rg813 have u soon the average age in the crowd? I think they got lured into a Roy Orbisson concert and they got REFUSED :p
This is beautiful.
isn't the lead singer now on the road with "The (international) Noise Conspiracy"? Saw em live 2 years ago ^^ looks pretty familiar.
great performance! i wish i was there
*song ends* *golf clap*
LIKE WTF ID BE SCREAMING MY FUCKING LUNGS OFF
i figured this singer would suck live "it was just a hunch" but i saw this video and i was like HOLY SHIT! excellent performance!
This is probably one of the 10 best songs EVER made!
this is an absolutely incredible rendition of a fucking intense song
People there are deeeaaaad!!! What the fuck? My brains exploded in front of the monitor, what would I do watching Refused in flesh and blood?
It's fucking hardcore how they blast into the guitar at the beginning after the techno part..was there something wrong with denni's mike? or was he just not singing into it?
The world could use some Refused right about now.
@GiselleJanis eu tbm adoro esse som...aliás, Refused é bom demais...pena que acabou...
one of the most important bands to modern music
ty for upload, yes i saw that Crazy Town bullshit and that pissed me off...
this is one of the only performances i've seen by them that wasn't a total mess. refused is one of my favorite bands, but if i had seen them live before hearing their studio material, i'd probably hate them.

Refused is one of the greatest bands that ever was.
@toalman. They did, yeah. It wasn't all that bad, if you like Refused, then watch it for sure.

GAAAH!!!! I get so fuckin psyked by this song!!!
Love it.
If you were a teenager, outcast, a punk, at that time, then this was really something special.
I am sooooo jealous of the crowd!
I agree with you.
it's so funny that the kids are sort of just standing there. shows a certain classic hardcore jock mentality. A band way ahead of their time......
awesome!!!!!!!! i love that!!!
nooo at 2:46.
I love Steen, one of my favourite guitarist's!

DAMN, awesome live performance :D
is there any dvd on the market?
Refused had dozens of temporary and stand-in bass players who were never in the band (except Jon Brännström who joined them on guitar) and they were all in their teens I think.
i love it
lil bit before 4 min best part=)
when you say "back then" how many years ago are we talking? 1, 2, 3? 6?
The crowd were probably so tame because this was most likely the first time they had heard this, and I'm guessing it would've sounded like it was from another world to them and they had no idea how to react.
This is from a concert with a lot of different bands. Maybe like 20% in audience are real fans. The rest are waiting for other bands to perform.
this is truly epic...
fucking love it!
so much energy
Can anyone make out what he says after he's done screaming "the new beat!" at the very end of the video?
My god.. just fuhkin awesome....
don´t spend too much time on thinking, what is hardcore or not, people...it´s all the feeling!!
peace out
Hell, this song is ground-breaking!
